Mmmm, that's tough.

It's a toss up between Dragon Age: Origins and Neverwinter Nights 2, Mask of the Betrayer

Mask of the Betrayer is a brilliant game. It's got a story on par with Planescape: Torment, but it plays much better.

I'm bad at picking favorites, so here's a list of ones that I couldn't decide which one I liked more:

Mass Effect 1/2
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
Fallout 3/New Vegas

So I guess that's kind of my top 5 list in nonspecific order.

Also, an easy way that I've found to cheese that battle first coming into the Mall is to hide in the bus stop. There's a small hole in the back for you to fire out of that is almost impossible for enemies to hit, so you're either perfectly safe or you lure the enemies into shotgun range. It was a godsend when I played through the game with a melee build, as all I had to do was hide in there and wait for enemies to come to me.

What I liked the most was how it presented the idea behind the ?Wall of the Faithless?. It was truly a ?morally gray? choice. It was presented better because both sides were allowed to make their points through the story, and each seemed viable. That?s different from, say, Dragon Age II, where both sides are presented as dicks to an equal degree.

Don't worry, once we do a certain DLC, we get a power armor that pretty much never breaks, and makes us practically invincible.
Ah yes, Call of Duty: Operation Anchorage.

When I go over my screenshots, I don't like the icky omnipresent green filter in this game. That being said, New Vegas did this just as badly, but with orange instead. While there's still a bit more contrast with New Vegas, some parts are terrible, like Camp Forlorn Hope. The change is so noticeable, I had to install the Fellout [http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2672] mod just to get it to go away. And then the nights became ungodly dark because of the mod.
Camp Forlorn Hope was purposely made to look like that, it's supposed to give the camp a, well..."forlorn hope" style feel. Remember this is the camp that has been constantly attacked and the soldiers are in need of medical attention and supplies, and just look at how big the graveyard is.

And now it's time to leave the museum of technology. It's a cool location, but it feels like more of a side location than a main one. It feels like Bethesda just picked from the best locations they had, and gave the player a weak justification to visit that place.
That can be pplied to a lot of other things, done just for the sake of being cool *cough* Liberty Prime*cough*

I wonder how Little Lamplight got in, if that's the case...
I guess Bethesda like child sex and nonsensical locations? I don't know, personally I thought Little Lamplight was the worst location in the whole game.

And moreover, why wasn't the Dunwich Building part of the main quest? I bet quite a few people missed out on that one, though that was rectified with a still rather hard to find sidequest in Point Lookout, which just had you visit the place to do something you probably already would have done.
Dunwich building was nice, unfortunately the first time I visited it I had the ghoul mask so the whole thing was ruined for me.

Non-Fallout but still somewhat related question: What is your favorite RPG? (WRPG or JRPG, doesn't matter.)
At the moment it's Fallout: New Vegas, but I haven't played as many RPGs as I would like too. RPGs usually require more time, and time isn't something I have right now, I just recently made a GOG account so I'm planning on getting some classics from there.

Liking the LP so far, keep up the good work. What's the poll supposed to say?

My current favorite RPGs are Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Can't think of any others I really liked

I hated the metro areas. I had an SDTV when I played this game and they were just too dark even with my brightness all the way up. I turned on my Pip-Boy light but still couldn't see more than a few meters away. Not fun.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying this Let's Play. I like how it's part "in character" and part commentary.

Edit: argh, didn't see that a new question was active now.
What is my favorite RPG: I'm gonna play around with this. Mass Effect 2 and 1 are my first and third favorite games ever, respectively. But I don't love them for their RPG aspects. For that, I prefer Knights of the Old Republic (or KotOR II. I can never decide which game I like more. The character building stuff is better in the second game, though. The "Finesse" feat was a huuuuge addition).

Yeah, I agree with you there. I really enjoy Mass Effect 1 and 2, but I find the RPG aspect of them lacking. And yeah, depending on my particular mood when you ask me, I either prefer KOTOR 1 or 2. I think in story, 2 blew the first out of the water though. It's just that sometimes the game's unfinished and buggy nature hold it down. Both are probably tied for my second favorite game spot.

[HEADING=1]Chapter IX - Crossroads[/HEADING]
Last update we put the satellite on top of the Washington Monument, so that Three Dog can broadcast his drivel across the wasteland. Now we head back.

If it wasn't for fast travel, we would have to walk all the way back through those metro tunnels, just to get back to GNR, and then we'd have to go all the back through some more tunnels just to get out into the wasteland.

We can just fast travel over to GNR instantly instead. It does make our accomplishments seem a bit insignificant though, doesn't it?

And like that, instantly in front of Galaxy News Radio. That was convenient.

They keep on spouting that same line over and over again. What are they referring to? The Behemoth?

For that matter, are these guys even part of the main Brotherhood of Steel anymore? I doubt the West Coast Brotherhood of Steel would care, considering they already wiped out the super mutants in their neck of the woods.

We find Three Dog sleeping. What, it's only been like an hour a day or since we left to fix the satellite dish.

"Thanks, Three Dog. I was just glad to help with the Good Fight."

"Hey, you're the one who deserves all the thanks! You struck a major blow against tyranny!"

What tyranny? I mean sure, the raiders and super mutants are killing everything they see, but it's not like they're an oppressive government or anything. Even if they were, what does you radio station provide, except for really obvious advice?

"Now GNR can be heard clear across the Capital Wasteland again. That'll give Eden and those Muties something to think about. But before I get back to my calling, I bet you wanna hear about that military weapons cache."

"Yes, please."

"This holotape contains the location of the weapons cache. I hope you put them to good use and keep up the fight. Remember to keep us tuned in while you're out there, and watch yourself. Anytime you need a place to crash, duck in here. Be glad to provide."

That's probably the last we will see of Three Dog, unless I feel like coming back to have a chat with him. It's certainly not the last we'll hear of him though. Like it or not, if I want to listen to the radio, I have to deal with this asshole shouting through it like every few songs or so.

And now we're off to Rivet City. It's not accessible from the DC ruins, we would have to walk back through the metro and head all the way back near Super Duper Mart just to be able to get to Rivet City. Thankfully, we have the patented Fast-Travel? to help us out here.

Hamilton's Hideaway is quite a bit north from here. We're not going straight there yet, we're going to Rivet City.

Somehow the outskirts of the ruined city look more bleak than the actual ruined city.

"GAH! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? KILL IT, KILL IT, KILL IT!!!"

Was my first reaction when I saw one of those things.

As you can see the, the Monument is still pretty close. It'd be a short car ride away to get to there, but of course it's blocked by conveniently placed rubble.

He's breaking the fourth wall! Don't do it anymore, or the game's universe will collapse upon itself.

We walk into nearby tent with a super mutant, and a captured prisoner.

You know, this is really off-topic and I probably should save it for my big super mutant bonanza update, but it's possible to pull of the "big dumb orc" thing for laughs without comprising the grim dark direction this game was going for. Warhammer 40k does it really well, the orks are rather funny but at the same time still a threat, and they don't clash with the really, really dark setting.

At the very least, the super mutants in this game wouldn't be as boring as they are if they were more like that.

There's a tied up captive we can rescue. Of course we'll rescue her, and refuse the reward for extra good karma points. It's usually pretty useless anyway.

Gah, I hate Mirelurks. They're just a pain to actually do any damage to.

Oh god. It's Dukov. Great.

Yup, you're seeing it right. There's a giant glowing light with two people having sex that's lighting up the entire room. I have to ask, where would you get that, especially in a post apocalyptic wasteland?

Oh dear god, that accent is even more annoying that Moriarty's.

"Nevermind. You need a drink. Cherry! Need some fucking booze over here!"

"Who are those girls? And where are their clothes?"

"Ha ha! They're my party girls. I'm too much man for just one woman, so I need two! I wear them out every night. Why should they bother getting dressed when I'm just going to take it off?"

So wait, let me get this straight? This is the best place for you to do this? You know, considering on one said there is a giant horde of super mutants, and one the other, there are raiders literally yards away from your house.

"I'd better go before I get a headache."

"You need to drink more. Ha, ha!"

Apparently this is Bethesda's idea of funny.

You know, speaking of Russians, it's odd that the Soviet Union has such a small role in Fallout canon. I know it's China that was the US's big enemy, but apparently Russia was one good terms with the US [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Russia].

I find it kind of ironic, considering in every other shooter nowadays, it seems like Russians are the big bads.

And like I said before, the is a raider camp right across the street. Dukov would be so dead.

There's a very hard locked ammo box here. I wonder what's in it, but we won't be able to find out as our lockpicking skill is much too low.

In a little shack underneath a bridge, there's a scavenger who sells things. I still don't get how these people survive out here, considering their close proximity to things that want to kill them.

More centaurs along the pathway. They get rather annoying with their spit attack, which also boosts your radiation levels.

There's a bunch of super mutants in that crumbling building over there shooting at us. Like the fight in the mall, one of them has a minigun, so rushing them is a bad idea. Eventually, I just get fed up with exchanging shots and use our last mini-nuke on them.

There's the Jefferson Memorial right up ahead. No need to visit that right away yet.

There is a super mutant base composed of twisted metal and spikes just a decent walk away from Rivet City. Let's clear the place out.

This super mutant just idly stands around with a grenade in his hand. Let's aim for the grenade and...

BOOM.

If we used the minigun, it would be useless to us because of our not so great big guns stat, but it will tear us apart outside of VATS.

This mutant is still no match for a couple of shotgun shells to the face. There's a prisoner we can save for more good karma points, yay.

We level up too.

In the distance, we can clearly see a giant wrecked ship. It's the biggest landmark in the area, it's kind of hard to miss.

And apparently it's a city now. Huh.

Some med-x wears off right as I hit the intercom button. Ah, my eyes.

Only two guards out at the front to defend from the mutant and raider onslaught, literally right outside your door step..?

"State your busines in Rivet City."

"I'm looking for a Doctor Li."

"Yeah? Let me guess - no, she's not expecting you, but it's really important and you need to see her right away. Been a lot of that going around lately, I've had just about enough of it. So you're going to have to do better than that."

"[Charisma] Hey, it's no big deal. I just need to see her for a minute, and I'll be gone."

"Fine. Just don't bother her. She's real busy, what with all her work. She's up in the Science Lab."

We'll be seeing Harkness again... later.

Navigating Rivet City is a nightmare. It's a singularity of loading screens.

I also have to ask, what's the logic in building a city on a potentially unstable giant boat? I get that it's easy to defend, but if you explore it a bit, you would find that there's plenty of easy ways that raiders and super mutants could get through the bottom of it.

This is the Rivet City science lab. Impressive, it looks like they invented carrots.

It only took them 200 fucking years to do it.

Let's try to stay out of this and-

Gah! Stop forcing me to talk with people I don't want to. Warning guys, you're in for a long conversation.

"Are you by any chance... for hire?"

Of course we're for hire, we're the protagonist in an RPG.

"That depends. What exactly are we talking about, here?"

"To the point. I like that. Well, as it turnts out, I've misplaced some very sensitive "property."

Hardly to the point.

"Missing property? What kind of property?"

"Hmmm... how do I put this in a way you'll understand? All you know of robots are those buckets of bolts - those Mr. Handshakers and whatnot. Well... that's not ALL a robot can be. You see, in the Commonwealth, we've made artificial persons. Synthetic humanoids! Programmed to think and feel and do whatever we need."

Okay... Couple of questions:

Why the hell would you program a robot to think and feel? Nothing good will every come of that.

The Commonwealth is presumably in just as bad of shape, if not worse as the Capital Wasteland. (I would say it should be rubble, but according to the Wiki, this particular Commonwealth is in Massachusetts). How are they able to make this extremely advanced technology from scavenged parts?

Some consistency is all I'm asking for, honest.

"And... occasionally they get confused and wander off."

"Sounds like slavery to me. You sure they don't "wander off" on purpose?"

"Nonsense! This is a machine we're talking about. Can you enslave a generator, or a water purifier? Of course not. The same principle applies. But let's get back to your mission. You are to find this missing android. I've tracked him to somewhere here in the Capital Wasteland. He must have done something drastic, like facial surgery and a mind wipe, or else I would have found him by now. It will be no easy task. He may not even realize he's an android. Don't upset him by talking with him. Just come get me immediately. I'll handle it."

"Sorry, I've got better things to do."

I find it annoying on how you can't express moral outrage about what this guy is doing, instead of just saying that you got better things to do.

"You're as ignorant as all the other rats on this boat. When you realize I have the real cheese, you'll come crawling back. They always do."

I do not want Blade Runner in my Fallout, no thanks sir.

In all seriousness, we'll probably do the quest later. We have bigger fish to fry right now, however.

And we get to talk to Doctor Li. Like Three Dog and Moriarty, she is also a complete asshole towards you. I'm sensing a pattern here.

"I... It's you. My heavens, you look so much like him... You're James' daughter, aren't you? What are you doing here?"

"Wait... How do you know who I am? Have we met?"

"You were too young to remember, and I suppose James never spoke of me. Typical. I am Doctor Madison Li. I worked with your parents many years ago. Now I run the Science Lab here in Rivet City. It was all I had left. When your mother died, you father decided to leave with you. He abandoned our work. We had no choice but to do the same."

Doctor Li was that nurse at the very beginning of the game. Yup, I was waiting 10 updates just to reveal that extremely important plot twist.

"I'm trying to find my father. Have you seen him?"

"You mean you haven't? I assumed he sent you here. For that matter, aren't you supposed to be in a Vault? James said he left you there."

"I left the Vault to look for him."

"Did you? I was under the impression that's exactly the opposite of what he wanted for you. Well, you won't find him here. He's come and gone already."

"I'm sorry. Could you please tell me where he's gone?"

"Your father insisted that we return to work on Project Purity. I tried telling him too much time has passed; there's no way it would work. Predictably, he refused to listen to me. He says he can prove it will work, and headed off to the old lab. I'm sorry. I don't know what else to tell you. It's in the old Jefferson Memorial building, northwest of here. Please don't go after him. It was foolish of him to even think about going there alone."

Well, foolishness hasn't stopped us from chasing him across the wasteland yet, has it?

We head towards the marketplace of Rivet City. You know, this place would be so much more impressive if it wasn't for all the goddamn loading screens. There's the same problem with New Vegas as well.

I blame consoles-*shot*

This is the marketplace. There's a gun shop, medicine, and clothing shop here. I got to wonder how many people besides the player character who would particularly care about getting new clothes, but whatever.

We leave, as we really can't afford much here, nor do we need anything.

So now, we stand at a crossroads. This is probably the most logical jumping off point for some exploring and sidequests. What we do and where we go next is completely up in the air. New possibilities just stretch across the horizon.

So okay, you guys get to choose exactly what we get to do next. Please bold or do something to make your answers stick out a bit more, as the poll is obviously broken.

A) Eschew the main game entirely and do one of the DLC's (Obviously sans Broken Steel). If you choose this option, please specify which one.

B) Head towards Hamilton's Hideaway and maybe do the android quest while we're at it. Any interesting locations along the way we'll check out.

C) Continue along the main quest, until we get to the point right before we find our dad. Then I'm going to force us to make a detour to one of the DLC's or some sidequests anyway.

I vote for option A, doing either The Pitt or Point Lookout as those are my favorite DLCs from this game.

Option C seems kinda pointless since there's probably only one or two updates worth of material before finding and getting to Dad's location anyway.

You know you can just kill him? That way you can listen to some great songs without a wolf howling in your ear.

That's probably the last we will see of Three Dog, unless I feel like coming back to have a chat with him. It's certainly not the last we'll hear of him though. Like it or not, if I want to listen to the radio, I have to deal with this asshole shouting through it like every few songs or so.
You could just accidently drop a live grenade at his feet...

"GAH! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? KILL IT, KILL IT, KILL IT!!!"

Imagine if Floaters were in this game!? I was kinda hoping for them in New Vegas but I figured most of them had been wiped out.

At the very least, the super mutants in this game wouldn't be as boring as they are if they were more like that.
Or they could've made them intelligent *cough*

Apparently this is Bethesda's idea of funny.
At least it isn't as bad as Little Lamplight...

I think that's a great thing, we need less Russian enemies in games.

I also have to ask, what's the logic in building a city on a potentially unstable giant boat? I get that it's easy to defend, but if you explore it a bit, you would find that there's plenty of easy ways that raiders and super mutants could get through the bottom of it.
Where's the logic with Little Lamplight? Why haven't they been slaughtered by the Super Mutanats, captured by the Slavers or killed by the Radscorpians?

This is the Rivet City science lab. Impressive, it looks like they invented carrots.

It only took them 200 fucking years to do it.
I'm more worried about the fact that in 200 years the most successful civlisations are a boat and a city filled with moronic slaves who were obviously born with half a brain.

I do not want Blade Runner in my Fallout, no thanks sir.
If Fallout 3 had Wild Wasteland, (and traits for that matter) if you didn't take it I predict about 60% of the game would just disappear.

So okay, you guys get to choose exactly what we get to do next. Please bold or do something to make your answers stick out a bit more, as the poll is obviously broken.

B) Head towards Hamilton's Hideaway and maybe do the android quest while we're at it. Any interesting locations along the way we'll check out.
That one, because the main quest scares me and it;s better to tackle Point Lookout (the only good DLC) at a higher level. You could try the Pitt, maybe I'll get a chance to see what it's like without slaves turning invisible or raiders wearing bright red shorts.

Alright, I've decided to do The Pitt mostly because it's an interesting DLC and it's not as difficult for a low level character as Point Lookout is. There will probably be an update dedicated completely to just getting there, because it's farther away from any place we've previously been.

Going to do another log mini-update today. It may, or may not be followed up with a normal update, depends on how much time I have.

[HEADING=1]Lily's Log - The Capital[/HEADING]
I feel like I'm getting close now. I still can't believe I've actually survived the trip into the city.

Once I left Megaton, my pace picked up rapidly. I was not sure if my father was in any danger, and I felt that the less time I spent wandering the wasteland the better. In the distance, I saw what I assumed to be an abandoned supermarket. After fighting with some raiders on the outside, I decided to take shelter in the building.

That was a grievous error.

I must have been lucky that day, because as soon as I opened the door, I saw some patrolling around the store. I knew if I tried to escape, they might see me leaving. It took one shot to take down the patrolling raider, but then I alerted the entire base to my presence.

Like I said, I really don't know how I made it. Aside from the fact that they weren't too bright, and I was able to take them out one or two at a time. That little scuffle actually benefited me quite a bit, they had valuable ammo and weapons I could use or sell to survive.

I only walked across the street after leaving the Super Duper Mart when a huge fight broke out between some raiders nearby. Before I could react, I was attacked by another group of people who were extremely well armed. I don't know who they were, or what they wanted with me, I assume they were raiders. After fending them off, I didn't take any chances and ran into the nearby metro.

That was not the most well thought out plan either, but it was either that, or try to scale crumbled buildings in the middle of a warzone. Still... I should have looked for another way.

The metro tunnels are essentially a labyrinth. Exits are blocked with rubble, or destroyed trains. I at least thought things would be safer down here, but they were quite possibly worse. I was attacked by these things... They looked like people, but they were extremely emaciated and were clearly irradiated. According to the man on the radio, they were ghouls, feral ghouls to be precise. The metros were filled with them.

One could only assume that this is what happened to some the people who couldn't get into the Vaults and hid down here during the Great War.

I made my way through the metro, fighting ghouls and raiders along the way. I encountered another group of enemies, I think on the radio they were referred to as "super mutants". They shot on sight of course. Everything wants to kill me out here.

I made it out of the sewer mostly intact and walked into the ruins of one of the capital's of the Old World. That's when the scale of the devastation hit me. Not a single part of this city wasn't crumbling or decaying. It's a wonder that anyone was left at all.

I was attacked by a group of super mutants when my back was turned. It was my fault, I was too focused on studying the ruins around me. I managed to take out the group, but I didn't know if there were any more. Thankfully, a strange group of people who called themselves the Brotherhood of Steel intervened. Their leader offered to let me tag along, and I agreed. They were going to the radio station anyway, that's where I needed to go too.

The "Brotherhood" were quite effective fighters. They used a type of armor I was not familiar with, I believe they called it power armor. The mutants were no match for them, and we cut through to the plaza. Things seemed well, until we heard a large rumbling noise. A nearby vehicle exploding, instantly killing one of Brotherhood soldiers. Out of the smoke, came a giant version of those super mutants. It was taller than some of the buildings nearby. Their leader yelled at me to pick up a nearby weapon and told me to fire it at the creature. I did it without hesitation, and the thing went up in a ball of fire. I hope there aren't any more of those roaming around the wasteland.

I went through the lobby of the radio station, the Brotherhood seemed set up down here. Apparently they were helping to keep the radio on the air. I headed up the stairs, and spoke to the main who hosted the radio station, Three Dog.

Three Dog was an alright sort. He was loud and obnoxious but he had good intentions at the very least. He wasn't a scumbag like Moriarty. He rambled on and on about the "Good Fight" when he mentioned my father. I asked him if he knew anything and of course, he said he knew but it'd cost me.

I managed to persuade him to tell me outright, but he offered a different reward for helping him anyways. A weapons cache not too far from Megaton. I decided to help him anyway. Not for the weapons cache, mostly to help the radio broadcast across the wasteland.

I left the radio station with an actual objective this time, not just wandering around based off of vague leads. I needed to find a replacement satellite dish from the Museum of Technology and install it on top of the Washington Monument. Of course, to get to there, I needed to go through the metro again. It was not easy.

I got out, into the center of the capital, the Mall. All of the broken down monuments and museums were here. As soon as I stepped out into the open, I was assaulted by super mutants. Somehow, I managed to get through the fight, with only a few minor wounds. Those could be healed easily with some stimpaks.

The Museum of Technology was pretty impressive, even if it was mostly in ruins. They even had a fake vault inside as an exhibit, it somewhat reminded me of home. Of course, it wasn't my home anymore.

After fighting my way through the museum, I got the dish and headed towards the monument. I ran into a group of super mutants, and instead of fighting, I ran for it. I thought that the gates of the monument would be enough to protect me. Some members of the Brotherhood were stationed at the monument, so they gunned down the mutants before they could harm me. The Brotherhood seemed to be protecting the wasteland out of the kindness of their hearts. There has to be more to it than that.

I took the long ride up the elevator in the monument. The thing was huge, it towered over everything in the surrounding area. I still can't believe it is still standing, you'd think it would have fallen over by 200 years or so.

I somehow managed to attach the dish to the top of the monument. I went back down the elevator, and headed back through the tunnels to make it back to GNR. Three Dog told me the location of the cache, but that's not where I was going. I was going to Rivet City.

It took me a long time to actually reach Rivet City however. I had to go all the way back through the metro and back to near the Super Duper Mart and follow the river down. On the way, I met an interesting character by the name of Dukov. Apparently he found it completely normal to party constantly with two girls, even though that there were raiders right outside his doorstep. I left as soon as I entered, I had no time for such distractions.

After much fighting and travelling, Rivet City was finally in sight. Doctor Li should know where my dad is, according to Three Dog. Rivet City is built inside of an wrecked ship. Why am I not surprised? All these people out here seem to do is make settlements in stupid, stupid places.

I gained access to Rivey City, and went straight to Doctor Li's lab. A man by the name of Zimmer approached me with a job offer, but I was too busy to care. Doctor Li apparently had known my father and me, and she already knew his current whereabouts. She wasn't optimistic of his survival, but I asked her where I could find him.

Even if all I can find is a body to bury, that will have to be enough.

Time for the other update for today.

[HEADING=1]Chapter X - Walking Across the Wasteland[/HEADING]
Now, instead of going straight to the Jefferson Memorial, I've decided it's time to check out one of the game's DLC's. More specifically, The Pitt. The Pitt isn't my favorite DLC in this game, but I do think that it's pretty good, and it's relatively easy for a lower leveled character to do, unlike Point Lookout.

The problem is that the Pitt is literally at the northernmost point on the map. It's quite a ways from Rivet City, that's for sure. Instead of just skipping the walk, I thought I might as well show an update for it, because it's rather interesting.

We fast-travel back over to where the first entrance to the metro we found was, close to Super Duper Mart. It's a long road ahead.

For some odd reason, it's almost always overcast in the main city. In the rest of the wasteland, weather is usually clear. For that matter, I still don't get why this game doesn't have weather. Oblivion had it.

We get attacked by some raiders on the road north. I always feel like I never have enough ammo in this game, how about you?

There's these bog-like areas in the wasteland. I assume it's like radioactive waste or something, but it gives off a large amount of radiation.

We get attacked by a robot while we're exploring the wasteland. If you're sensing a pattern here, this is pretty much what happens every time if you want to get a decent distance across the game's map. It keeps things interesting sure, but it gives the impression that everything in the world is out to kill specifically you.

Now we get attacked by dogs.

And radscorpions.

And more raiders. This wasn't even across a long stretch of land or anything, christ.

Oh look, some mutants in the distance. It makes sense they would be here, we're right next to Germantown HQ.

What's annoying about super mutants is that they take quite a bit of damage and they drop very little ammo.

Sneak attacks are still very useful. We probably should put some more points into sneak.

There's a burnt out house with a skill book in it. For some reason, most of the burnt out houses in the middle of nowhere I've encountered in this game have had skill books in them.

We get attacked by a robobrain. One short trip across the wasteland and suddenly we encounter a 1/3rd of the total enemies you can encounter in this game.

We can see Paradise Falls not too far away from here, but we're not checking out that place until much, much later.

All I have to say about is that it's the only somewhat plausible major city in this game, location wise at least. What it's actually used for and who inhabits it makes absolutely no sense though.

We sneak up on some nearby super mutants. VATS gives another awesome kill animation.

Our combat shotgun is nearly broken and we're almost out of ammo for it.

More super mutants attack us. It's odd that such a big force of super mutants would be right outside another settlement.

I shoot the grenade that this mutant throws out of the air, and then he runs off to find another gun. He books it in the opposite direction, I'm stupid and turn my back on the other mutant and centaur.

Shotgun ammo is hard to come by at this point in the game, but get a bit further on, and the game basically bathes you in ammo for it.

Frag grenades are fun to use in VATS.

Tons of burnt out 200 year old trees. It's a wonder how they haven't crumbled, or why there aren't more trees around the wasteland in the first place. And- Wait, I probably should save this for the Oasis update.

We get attacked by some mole rats and a radscorpion. I swear all the creatures of the wasteland are working together.

Robots, bloatflys, etc. More and more random encounters throughout the wasteland.

We're closer to where we want to go.

Yeah, I'm using energy weapons again. I had like 300 ammo for the thing, so in order to conserve the useful stuff, I used that instead.

We stop nearby one of the power stations in the game. I decide to take a look insde.

We got a Nikola Tesla and You book out of this, so I think it was worth it.

And on our way our, we're attacked by these assholes. We met them before, they attacked us randomly during the raider vs. super mutant fight near the Super Duper Mart. Apparently, they're just a mercenary group dedicated to being dicks. If you were an evil character, the regulators would show up and attack you instead.

Oddly enough, they sound equally dickish.

They're tough, I'll give them that. Their armor has a decent damage resistance and they got some good weapons. Like most fights, you can easily cheese it because of the games dumbass AI.

Oh look, a Chinese Assault Rifle. And... a contract to kill us?

Wait... So they want to kill us and go out of their way to have a large bounty, simply because we're being nice to people?

This game is stupid.

We run into some raiders attacking a man. It was a short fight, since he's a plot important character, he can do a ton of damage and is unkillable as well.

"You've come about the broadcast, right? Risky, I know. But it had to be done. So you know who I am. Who are you?"

"I came because of the radio message. What's the problem?"

"Well now, a hero! Look at you. I come from a place far to the northwest. It's called The Pitt. It's... well... let's be honest... The place is a nightmare... radiation, mutation, disease. But the worst of it: my people, some of the only survivors, are slaves. No big deal, you're thinking? It's a rough world. But I have the chance to free them. All I need is an outsider's help before that chance is gone."

"Did you escape or something?"

"Yeah. That's why these guys were after me. As long as I know about the cure, I'm a threat. So I ran. And you can be damn sure there will be more of 'em coming."

"Wait, slow down. Cure for what?"

"The Pitt is a mess. Nearly everyone who lives there is either sick, dying, or... worse. It's the water. And the air. You can't escape it. You stay there a few years, and no matter waht, it'll get you. But the bastards who have my people, they've found a way to cure it. And once they have that cure perfected, we don't stand a chance. So, we need the cure to bargain for our freedom. The city is controlled by a man named Ashur. He's powerful. No one there dares go against him. No one except me. I need you to sneak into The Pitt and find a way to get close enough to him to steal the cure. Nothing to it, right?

"What do we need to do first?"

"Well, you might try a disguise. They probably won't let some random armed Waster past the gates. But if you look like one of the working stiffs, you should be able to slip in with no problem. Lucky for us, a group of Slavers is nearby waiting to make a sale. You should be able to get one off of them. They're off to the west, near the tunnel that leads to The Pitt. That should be our first move."

"Yeah, a disguise is a good idea. I'll do that."

"Okay. You go get the outfit. I'll stay here and meet up with you when it's done. You won't be coming back here for a while, so keep that it in mind."

So, basically the plan is for us to infiltrate the slaver's hideout by pretending to be a slave. Then somehow we have to become friends with their leader and steal the care from under his nose?

I can't see how this possibly could go wrong.

Okay, more Fallout questions: What's your favorite Fallout 3 DLC?

The only thing I really liked about The Pitt was the actual design of Pittsburtgh and it was like the only society that was tryign to rebuild, except of course for Wernher the idiot. Also Ashur's power armour was pretty nice, and the infiltrator.

Point Lookout was the only real worthwile one.

The Pitt was nice but had a lot of bad aspects that ruined it for me, and the promised "grey morality" wasn't there, just stupid people who need to get their heads straight.

Broken Steel was an attempt to fix a mistake and just opened up more problems.

Operation Anchorage felt more like Call of Duty: Operation Anchorage.

Good evening wastelanders, and here's a fresh Video Update for you all.

Why was this place built around a nuke again?
Wherein creepy people tell young Liam he is 'very valuable,' and we learn that atomic bombs are best disarmed while using drugs.

Updates will be coming more slowly for now folks, due to a rather major change in my daily schedule, but I will hopefully be back to daily updates soon.

Okay, more Fallout questions: What's your favorite Fallout 3 DLC?
Tough question. I honestly want to say Mothership Zeta just because of the overpowered loot you get, but the actual best is probably point lookout

[HEADING=1]Chapter XI - Somehow, This Place is Worse than the Capital Wasteland[/HEADING]
So last time, we decided to follow a vague radio message requesting for help all the way across the wasteland, just because we felt like it. I swear, some of the hooks for these DLC's are ridiculous if you think of them in-universe. Anyway, we met with this guy named Wernher and he wants us to get a slave disguise so we can sneak into the titular Pitt and find a cure or something, I'unno. I'm sure nothing at will go wrong between now and then.

On the way to the nearby slaver camp, we run into some ghouls in the wasteland. This is a pretty common random encounter, they say they're heading to the city of Underworld in the DC Ruins. We haven't visited Underworld yet, but basically it's a place for ghouls to live away from everyone else. They can't go into the city because apparently they keep on getting attacked by super mutants.

Which is odd, because the sentry outside the entrance to Underworld talks about how Super Mutants don't attack ghouls for some strange reason.

I attack the robot, and I noticed the car on fire right next to it. I backed up a bit.

Imagine how bad a normal car crash would be if a few bullets makes the car blow up like that.

We run into the slaver camp. It's very close to place where we met Wernher, so at least we don't have to run across the map like we did last update.

"Are you the person sent from the Pitt? I thought you were a man."

"[Speech, 100%] Do you really care if I'm a man or not? I'm here to buy these slaves."

"[SUCCESS] I really don't. I'm just glad that you finally showed up. We've been waiting here for-fucking-ever. Whatever, man. You're here now. I just hope you're ready to do business. We've got three. Usual price: 200 each. Boss says no trade so, cash only."

"Actually I think I'll just kill you and take the slaves instead."

"Oh, I knew not to trust you Pitt bastards!"

Obviously I'm not paying 600 caps for guys I could get just by fighting them. It isn't even a tough fight either. I assume you'd have to kill the slavers anyway, but I never choose any other option but killing them.

We loot a key to the slave pen from one of the slavers.

A slave comes up and talks to us.

"You're free now. But I need your help dressing like a slave."

"Wait... we're free? You're serious? You killed them and we're just free to go? You're either the kindest person in the world or the dumbest. Either way: thank you. I can help you. It's the least I can do. What is it that you need?"

Oh yes. Refer to the person who saves you (and who is extremely armed) as the dumbest person in the world. I'm sure they won't get you badly hurt.

"I need a set of slave clothes. Where can I get some?"

"That guy over there on the mattress died last night. I never did get his name. If you don't mind the small, you can just take his."

"Great. Thanks. Be careful out there."

"We will. Thank you again, stranger. We owe you our lives."

And they just run off randomly into the wasteland. I have a feeling they're going to run right into a deathclaw or something right after and get slaughtered.

"I'll meet you up by the tunnel that leads to The Pitt. You go get whatever you'll need for the trip."

"Ah! Where did you come from?"

"I followed you. I've gotten very good at staying out of sight when I don't want to be seen."

"All right, I'll meet you over by the tunnel."

"Whatever you say, hero. Just don't take too long. We need to get started. This ain't a short trip."

So we're supposed to take the nearby tunnel to the Pitt.

Don't laugh at me, but at the time I played this game, I thought Pittsburgh was in Ohio. So I was utterly baffled on how far it would be from the capital wasteland. I feel stupid.

The tunnel is pitch black for the most part, except for the small area where you enter. You can't actually walk further in the tunnel, the game has an invisible wall that stops you. You have to take the cart to get through to the Pitt.

Like with some of the DLC in the game, the game gives you a warning before going that you won't be able to return to the Capital Wasteland until you are finished. Oddly enough, this doesn't show up with Mothership Zeta, unless I don't remember it correctly. In New Vegas, they made very sure to warn you before you did the DLC's.

Welcome to the Pitt. Somehow, this place is more of a shithole than the Capital Wasteland. Irradiated, polluted, filled with weird mutants, and filled with many different kinds of raiders. Not a fun place.

Wernher gets into an arguement with the raiders right after you leave the tunnel, and a gunfight breaks out.

Raiders attack you from different angles and heights in this fight, though they still don't stand much of a chance. Wernher does a ridiculous amount of damage.

I do rather like the level design in some areas of the Pitt. The main area, the Steelyard, is a pretty cool place.

There's a small cache of supplies on top of a nearby building. Lots of radaway.

"If you dress up like a slave, you should be able to get past the gates without a problem. Once you're inside, find a slave named Midea. She'll be able to help you. Remember: your goal is to get access to Ashur and find the cure. After you have it, I'll contact you."

I still don't see why we should pass ourselves off as a slave. We could pass ourselves off as a raider perhaps, or maybe even storm the front gate. You can storm the front gate, but as soon as you enter the Pitt area, you get unceremoniously knocked out right after entering.

"You sure I can't sneak a weapon in?"

"Well... you might be able to get a small gun or a knife past them if you conceal it just right. I can do that for you but I can't promise that they won't see it and just gun you down. You want the gun or the knife?"

"I'll take the gun."

"Okay. Here you go. Don't take it out until you get past the gate. You clear on what you need to do?"

"Get in. Find Midea. Got it"

"That's it. Good luck. We're counting on you."

Wernher gives us a pistol to use once we get captured, but we can't actually equip it right now. It sits in our misc inventory screen, and can't be used.

As you can probably see, the sky is orange and polluted.

We fight some wildmen, who are different from raiders in that they attack you on sight...

Oh wait, normal raiders do that too.

Apparently the difference between the wildmen and the raiders, is that the wildmen have been exposed to large amounts of radiation and pollution from the Pitt, so they're psychotic. Just like raiders as well.

There's some medical supplies in the building that they were hiding out in. Note that this is the only explorable area outside the main city itself. The Pitt is not at all open, aside from the Steelyard level I mentioned earlier.

The bridge is surprisingly still intact, despite the nuclear war and 200 years that have passed since then.

The radiation in the river is insanely lethal. Jumping into it kills you before you even touch the water. I assume this is because they don't want to players getting to areas outside the map, and such.

The bridge is annoying. You have to deal with mines everywhere, and dogs that attack you while you're to cross.

The eyes of the wild dogs in this game are ridiculous.

There's a sniper who also harasses you as you cross the bridge. He can take large chunks out of your health with his sniper, so taking him down quickly is probably your best option.

Running up the bridge and attacking him up close when he loses his advantage is probably the best way to take him out. No matter what, if you are disguised or not, he'll attack you anyway.

He's got a sniper nest up here, with a bed and some supplies. Gives a good view of the rest of the Pitt.

The Mill is still very much up and running. Hmmm.

Suddenly some slaves turn the corner and run past us. They get blown up by mines. If the mines aren't there, they suddenly drop dead like they had a heart attack anyways.

I equip the slave outfit and head towards the gate. They let us in without any trouble.

This asshole greets us. He takes our stuff too.

While we haven't got any ammo, weapons, aid, or armor, we've finally infiltrated the Pitt.

So now what?

Okay, another Fallout 3/New Vegas related question: What's your favorite type of weapon in these games? (By that I mean the weapon skills. Energy weapons, guns, etc.)

Guns have always been the most useful, but melee weapons are so much fun when you can one hit kill everything with a fire axe.

I don't know how people felt about The Pitt, but being from Pittsburgh I was really hoping to see some of the cities landmarks, aside from the famous buildings in the skyline. It was fun, just a little disappointing.

Unarmed has become my recent favorite weapon skill. Mostly because I think it's hilarious to actually be able to kill gun wielding psychopaths and mutated killing machines by punching them to death.

Granted I'm usually wearing a Power fist that hits the same force as an 18-wheeler truck or a displacer gauntlet that generates the force of a sonic boom, but I'm still essentially punching them to death.
