[HEADING=1]The Story Of Jerry Stowley[/HEADING]
Dear Diary. Today I experienced the joys of having my limbs painfully extracted from my torso A.K.A I was nearly pulled apart by a Yao Gui. How did this happen? Well more on that in a minute. Now when I left Megaton I realized that there was a vault nearby. However as I got closer to the vault I realised the number of skeletons was increasing untill I came to an intact corpse which had a strange device on its lower left arm. A Pip-boy I think its called. I learned a bit about them but not much. As such I never understood the purpose. Anyway it seems it had a recording on it which went something like this.
[Start of recording]
Voice 1: Hey come on Butch, let us back in!
Voice 2: Yeah its getting cold out here and we're hungry!
Voice 3:(Muffled) I'm not letting you back in.
Voice 1: Why not? Listen, Jokes over, Let us back in!
Voice 4: Butch open the damn door! I think some raiders are coming!
Voice 3: Too bad. Should have thought of that before messing with the Tunnel Snakes!
Voice 5(Probably the Raider): Well Lookey here. Whats the matter? Locked out your vault? I'll help.
Voice 1: What? Wait what are you doing? Hey lower the gu-(Several gunshots before silence)
[End of recording]
So naturally I try to enter the vault. However not before removing the Pip-boy off the arm of the corpse(don't ask how, but lets say it involved removing that certain limb) and recalibrating it to suit myself. I managed to guess the password to the vault and entered. I didn't fully know what to expect but I imagined it would be dirty, dark and cold. I was right about the first and last but the lighting was alright. So I travelled around the vault with all of it being run down and dirty as if no one has cleaned it for several years. When I reached the living areas and found a vault 101 jumpsuit I realised that the so called Hero of the Wastes, The Lone Wanderer, had had his home turn to shit. That was when I was confronted by a middle age man or maybe he was younger or older. Basically he had a long white beard and he wore a vault jumpsuit but he had a leather jacket over the top which had a snake on the back. He didn't say a word, but instead he just nodded to the way I came. After five minutes of us staring at each other, and the man slowly growing more irritated, I started to walk back to the entrance when suddenly I felt a bang against my head and blacked out.
I presume the old man took me following his instructions the wrong way and decided to try and give me brain damage. So then I wake up, still having all my items on me, and I decide to investigate where the crazy bastard had left me when I realised there was nothing near me and I mean nothing. No collasped building, no towns, just the wasteland. Then I hear a roar and see a Yao Gui charging in my direction. Naturally I pulled out Kneecapper, when it dawned on me that the mutated bear was too far away to be shot effectively and if he got close I would find it difficult to hit it. So I got my other weapon. My baseball bat. Suprise suprise, I was clawed at and bitten untill the Yao gui figured it couldn't eat me whole so it tried to tear off my arms and legs. Luckily I managed to whack it on the head which dazed it, giving me a chance to run. Of course I didn't get very far untill the beast caught up. However its turned out a trader was travelling by and saw me in a bit of a pickle and scared of the Yao Gui by shooting it. Thank god to Nomads!

So would anyone say it has improved? Or maybe its gotten worse. Also anyone have anything they would like me to include in a future story?
It´s better, I think, but didn´t Butch left the Vault in the original game? After Trouble in the Homefront quest? Or are you talking about the 1 or 2 squeletons in the cave after the Vault door? Because those aren´t from Vault Dwellers, those are from Wastelanders (most likely).

So, Skyrim is coming out Friday. You guys looking forward to it?
Nope, heck, I'm more excited for MW3 to be honest. The fact that "dragons" is one of the major selling point is kinda stupid to me. If I want to play a fantasy game with dragons I'll go play Spyro, or one of the million other fantasy games with dragons in it.

The game I'm looking forward to the most is the Japanese (and subsequent English) release of Warriors Orochi 3.
Isn't that a Dynasty Warriors-esque game?

On a side note, what is everyone else playing lately? I've been playing Dark Souls and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.

It's a Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors crossover series, with a bunch of new characters added in from Japanese and Chinese mythology. Warriors Orochi 3 is also adding Joan of Arc (from Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War), Achilles (from Warriors: Legends of Troy) and Ryu Hayabusa (from Ninja Gaiden). When you get right down to it the WO games are basically fanservice games...and good ones :D

Destroy All Humans!, Dynasty warriors 6: Empires and Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One.

I thought Butch only left if you chose to destroy the generator. If you didn't he wouldn't leave because he's afraid. Or at least thats what I thought. As for the skeletons, I know in Fallout 3, they were not vault dwellers, but these stories take place in the future after everyone has started wandering out of the vault.

No, he leaves anyway, and somehow survives to the trip to Rivet City. You should try to retcon that little fact, just for the sake of the canon.

[HEADING=1]Chapter LXII - Fallout 3: ¡En Español![/HEADING]
Now it's time to start Broken Steel. There is no starting off point in Broken Steel similar to the other DLC. It just kind starts after the main story ends.

We return to the Citadel. We'll be backtracking here a lot.

Nothing has changed at all, aside from a few Aqua Pura crates here and there.

We've been on our feet for quite a while now.

"I assume Lyons is immediately throwing you to the wolves?"

Can the Enclave even be considered wolves anymore? At this point, their threat level to us is about the level of a blind cat.

"Has he told you what's been going on while you've been resting?"

"All I know is that you need my help. Again."

Yes, I get awfully snippy with the Broterhood with the dialogue options in this update.

"It would seem that way, yes. If you would, please step over to the map. I'll give you a brief update on what you've missed."

Not again...

He has to use the fucking screen again, for some reason.

Basically, he tells us that the Brotherhood's forces are gathered up and for some reason he wants us to help out.

It's not going to be short trip, not at all.

It's the westernmost part of the map. Normally if we hadn't been to those places, this would be a hell of a walk, but thankfully fast travel makes it much easier.

The Dunwich Building is our closest fast travel point.

It's much like the entrance to The Pitt, a tunnel at the edge of a map. We can see some fighting going on in the distance, wonder what it is?

It's an Albino Radscorpion fighting a Brotherhood Paladin. Let's see who wins...

Before we can intervene, the scorpion kills the Paladin.

It's like the other tunnels, the entrance is filled with all sorts of piping and such.

A ton of ammo to leave just lying around. Oh well, they're not going to need it anyway.

The Brotherhood has a base set up in the train tunnel. Nothing of much interest here, aside from some crates.

If you've played any Oblivion, then you'll probably recognize this guys voice as all of the guardsmen. I half expecting him to shout stop right there criminal scum.

"Some of us were starting to wonder if you and Sarah were going to pull through."

We're the protagonist, of course we're going to pull through.

Note that if you send Sarah into the purifier, she dies whether you have Broken Steel installed or not.

"How about we skip the pleasantries and get to work."

"Well... All business now, are we? Fine. Word has it the Enclave has a base on the other side of this tunnel operating as a communications hub, so we're here to burn 'em out. We break them here, they might just give up for good."

I doubt that.

"So as soon as I give the word, we move out."

Why do we need to be here again?

Broken Steel has this problem even more than the main quest does. The Brotherhood doesn't need you at all. The chores they send you on could just as easily be accomplished by sending a random paladin to do it.

"Okay, I'm ready to go."

"All right. You stay back with me and keep safe. Once we've reached the facility, we'll talk about who does what. Until then, we do this by the numbers. Same strategy has worked just fine for the last two weeks."

Hide behind the robot, loot the mess he leaves behind, got it.

"Let's get moving. Things should be underway by now."

Have fun staying behind and watch all the others do all the work.

So this area has it's own tiny map outside the Capital Wasteland. It's really not much aside from a road and an Enclave base.

And here's Liberty Prime, to spoil everyone's fun. If you were expecting to be able to lead the charge, you would be wrong.

It was cool during the taking of the purifier, but here it's just obnoxious.

Liberty Prime just slowly moves along, wiping out everything in it's path.

There's a neat little scan effect on the building, while Prime targets it.

He throws another one his nuke footballs...

And opens up the side of the building.

So, just when Liberty Prime seems to be a bit too powerful for the Enclave, the Enclave pulls this out of their ass...

Oh shit, run!

So the Enclave can call missiles down from orbit now, neat.

Why haven't they used this thing before?

Prime should be able to withstand that, I mean-

Oh...

And so ends the life of a plot device. A rather funny plot device, but a plot device none the less...

The Brotherhood is probably like "What now?".

"There's no time to talk - get your ass inside that base, and help the troops locate the source of their transmission. Now soldier, NOW!"

"Hey, wait! You said you didn't need my help!"

Then why are we even here?

"Yeah, well that was before they blew up our one advantage. Consider it a field promotion. Now get going!"

Why do we have to do everything around here?

Conviniently there is a door on the other side of the wall Prime blew open.

There are thankfully no Hellfire Troopers. Those guys really aren't fun to fight, especially when grouped up with other Enclave troopers.

Especially considering how much weaponry, armor and ammo we've collected, these guys really just are a waste of bullets. They pose no challenge, they just kind of get in the way.

You know, this is pretty damn pathetic for an Enclave base...

There is an awful lot of them swarming us though.

There are a lot of stairs here, pretty much with Enclave harassing us constantly.

We level up, as well. One more level to go before the cap.

We're close to max'ing out Barter. That will be the last skill we max.

Another Intense Training level, I put it in Strength because why not?

The Brotherhood practically sweeps through the place unopposed.

I guess the power armor isn't much use against small arms anymore...

We finally get to where we need to go, to hack this computer terminal. It only took about 100 dead Enclave soldiers to get here.

We get more intel on the Enclave for the Brotherhood. At least the entire mission wasn't an absolute failure...

We take a door, and it randomly leads out into the Capital Wasteland. I'm not really getting the layout here.

Notice the bottom left, the Citadel courtyard is referred to as "El patio de la Ciudadela". I don't know what's up, as it's only this particular cell that is renamed.

"I'm still waiting on the debriefing from Tristan, but I'm not sure it even matters. With Prime gone..."

We cleared that building of Enclave just fine. Did we even need that goddamn robot?

"It could've been worse. They could have attacked the Citadel."

"Well, there's certainly nothing stopping them from doing that now, is there? And with our primary defense gone, I don't know what we can do to stop them."

Bullets work.

"I need more to work with."

"Maybe you can focus on analyzing this data instead of crying about your robot."

Yeah, I know I'm picking the dickish options but I just like to think that the player character gets more and more fed up with the Brotherhood's bullshit.

"Well, I... You're right. There's no time to focus on what's passed. With Liberty Prime gone, the Enclave will be quick to seize the opportunity to regroup. I'll get the Scribes working on this right away. You should report to Elder Lyons. See if there's some way we can salvage this mess of an operation."

Now let's go find Lyons, to talk to.

"With our primary weapon destroyed, we risk losing our momentum and jeopardizing the entire campaign. I must admit, I now wonder moving ahead with this operation was an error in judgement."

"Well, it's too late to turn back now."

"You're right, which is precisely my concern. We have pushed the Enclave, and now it seems they are pushing back, much harder than we expected."

The Enclave are total pushovers, why are you people having trouble with them?

"If we cannot identify and neutralize this new threat, we have little hope for success. It's already cost us our greatest weapon."

"That doesn't sound like much of a leader talking."

"Please, do not presume to tell me my place, or how I should act. I am well aware of my responsibilities. Now, if we're through, you need to report to Paladin Tristan. He has another assignment for you."

"Unfortunately, we don't have time to sit around and wait for the analysis. Based on what U've seen of you so far, there's an assignment I believe you're well suited for."

That could practically mean anything.

"Any job you've got, I can do."

There needs to be "The faster I can get this over with, the better" option.

"I hope that's true. With all of the Brotherhood's resources committed to protecting against an Enclave attack, we're spread thin."

Wait, why would they be spread thin in that case? Wouldn't they just want to bunch up and protect the Citadel?

"So thin that we can't spare anyone to research a new weapon that might help us against the Enclave's vertibirds. At least, until now. From information we've gathered, it seems what we need may be located in the Olney Powerworks, north of the city."

So, our job is to be the person who gets to be mauled by Deathclaws. Awesome.

"You want me to go all the way to Olney?"

"I need you to go there, and quickly."

By quickly he means whenever it is most convinient to us.

"That's the best chance to locate a key piece of experimental equipment, called a Tesla Coil."

More SCIENCE! stuff.

"Information we've gathered suggests it's the best place to look for one, and for what the Scribes are cooking up, it's absolutely essential. If you can find one, get it back here right away. We don't have much time."

Well, I guess we're off to get mauled by Deathclaws. Sounds like fun.

Dark Souls is probably my favorite game of the year. Aside from a few minor issues (Some framerate drops in some areas, PvP balancing issues, etc.) I really love it. It's not nearly as hard as I remember Demon's Souls was though, maybe it's just cause I'm used to the games. I mean, it's challenging, but never to the point of being frustrating for me.

Also, the combat is really, really satisfying.

Yeah. I don't think I'll be getting it though. I'm really not good at games, despite liking them so much. Even on Mass Effect 2 Casual mode, I died quite a bit when fighting those... ice shooty thingies. Man, they pissed me off somthing fierce.

Ah well. My school has a 6 week break, so I'll have plenty of time for video games soon.

That's pretty much the main characters' role in the Brotherhood during this game. We don't do much else for them at any rate. We're off to Old Olney, to recover a Tesla Coil. Of course, that's easier said then done and there is an army of Deathclaws between us them.

Before we go, there's a minor thing we need to take care of.

Emphasis on minor, 9/10 people probably wouldn't even have noticed this particular optional objective.

"I hear you can help me get into Old Olney."

Not like we need help getting in there, we've been there before. Multiple times.

"Well, maybe. I mean, possibly. I think so, but I'm not certain. I don't know how much this will actually help... I mean, I'm not quite sure how effective it might be since it hasn't really been field tested... But I think I've figured out a way to override the signals the Enclave is using to control their Deathclaws. Here, take this. It's only a prototype, so please don't lose it."

This item is absolutely useless. I'm only showing off the dialogue and resulting part of the quest just to show how pointless this optional objective is.

"What exactly is this thing?"

"It's a semi-standard transmitter, only I altered the frequency modulation and jacked up the output. Based on some experiments I ran here in the lab, it should override the signals the Enclave uses to control Deathclaws."

How many Enclave controlled Deathclaws are there in this game?

Not many, is what I'm saying...

"Don't worry - it's constantly broadcasting, so you don't need to do anything. Just don't lose it. And so far, I have no evidence of adverse effects of EM interference in humans. Animals maybe, but not humans."

Oh, that's good to know. I suppose at least we won't be surprised when we suddenly burst into flames because of it.

"Anyway, it doesn't have a huge broadcast range, but it should be enough."

Dammit, no army of deathclaws. That's what this game really needed.

Not a better plot or characters, just an army of Deathclaws. All would be forgiven.

The optional objective is just slightly off of Old Olney.

The Enclave outpost is just near the ramp onto that overpass.

Oh look, an Albino Radscorpion. Those are always fun to fight.

We're helped by some random NPC's exploring the wastes. Have no idea where the hell they came from, but hey, not complaining.

Oh yeah, and obviously there is Enclave guys to fight too. Who would have guessed?

This deathclaw isn't hostile like every single other one you encounter in this game, because of that gadget we got from the Brotherhood. And it even follows us. Awesome.

As far as armies go, it's a start-

Damn it. Just drops dead once you hit a certain range. No idea why.

Welp, that was disappointing. At least we get to shoot some deathclaws now.

We have to go through this sewer to get to the next area. It's not as bad as it sounds, as far as sewer areas go it's quite tolerable, and it leads to a pretty cool basement area as well.

Of course, it's filled to the brim with deathclaws, without much room to maneuver. If they were actually a threat, it would be pretty damn difficult.

I don't know what is up with the random Spanish at times.

These guys do tend to pop up at the most unexpected times.

Behind a Very Hard locked door, there is a decent arsenal of stuff.

There's also a door that leads randomly into this grate on the outside, for some strange reason. I mean, it's kind of interesting looking down in here from above, but there's nothing of interest in this tiny room.

Now we're into a whole new section of the underground. Thankfully, this one is less sewer-y and more basement-y.

This is the most random conversation in the entire game, no joke.

"How the hell'd you get in here, smoothskin?"

The door...?

"I'm looking for Olney Powerworks. You know where that is?"

"Oh yeah, yeah. Sure thing. Just right through here. Only there's a few Deathclaws down here that might ahve other ideas. You know what I'm sayin'?"

They do realize that we just went through a dozen of them just to get in here, right?

"If there are so many Deathclaws around, how'd you survive?"

"Heh. We ran faster than the others, that's how. Ain't nothin' honorable about it, but we're still alive and they ain't. I can live with that."

Who thought living down here in the middle of a fucking deathtrap was a good idea?

"Listen, this wasn't my fault, okay? It wasn't my idea to tunnel down here, I just went along with it. But whatever. What's done is done. Me and Kidd, we're getting out of here. You came in that way, that means we can get back out. See ya later, kid."

Er, goodbye random NPC who came the hell out of nowhere...

This was the last place I thought I'd be running into a random NPC.

They don't really see much of anything about the ghouls down here, but I'm assuming there was a community down here like in Underworld or something? Not really sure exactly, this game could have used another town.

I mean, it's not like it's really lacking places littered with corpses.

The Deathclaws tore right through here.

This section goes on a bit too long though. It's obvious Bethesda wanted to add some dungeon crawl-y segements here, but I don't think they know how to pace them well enough...

This is where the tunnel/sewer section goes into a building section. Not really sure if I get the layout of this area, but whatever.

So did the ghouls tunnel through here, or was it the Deathclaws?

So I assume we're going through the basement of the building here?

It's a pretty cool area, I'll give it that at least.

This is the coolest area in the entire DLC, in my opinion. It's a building collasping in on itself, and it's pretty cool jumping across the different platforms to progress.

You can hear a Vertibird from up above.

You can vaguely see the blades of the Vertibird, and unlike many other of the interior areas that have "exterior" ceilings, this doesn't look completely fake.

Really hope that fix that with Skyrim's new engine, but I doubt it. It honestly doesn't look too impressive, in my opinion.

Also some Enclave guys in here too, finally. After about 30 minutes of just fighting Deathclaw after Deathclaw, it's nice to have some variety.

We use the billboard to cross the gap in the middle of the building.

We can't get through here yet, without a 100 science but this door is a shortcut to and back from where we need to go.

Had to fight Sentry Bots as well, I guess for variety purposes.

The Heavy Incinerator is surprisingly effective.

Eventually, we make it to this room. This is a really cool setpiece, and it looks surprisingly nice for Gamebryo.

We have to go down there and collect the Tesla Coil.

You can get Alien Power Cells in this room right here. No rhyme or reason for them being in here, they just are.

Somehow we're totally okay being down here and not getting fried but I'm not complaining. Touching the Tesla Coil right now insta-kills you, but there are switches on the wall you can pull.

There are three switches to hit.

Let's snatch the coil and get out of here. We just take the little ball on top, I thought the coil was the entire thing...?

Tesla Coils are actually really cool.

There's a shortcut out of here thankfully. If there wasn't that would be incredibly tedious.

So now we're right outside Old Olney. It's nice that they did something with Old Olney at least.

So, quick cut to the Citadel...

I'm telling you, I just can't think of anything other than "STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM!" when listening to this guy.

"Excellent. I'll see to it that this reaches the scribes immediately. You've done good work, soldier."

We've done nothing that a squad of paladins couldn't handle...

Well, the Brotherhood has shown time and time again how incompetant they are without us in this game, so I guess it's better that we came.

"Are you ready for your next assignment? We don't have have time to spare."

"I'm good to go. What's next?"

Thankfully not another fetch quest.

"Based on the data you brought us from the relay station, we've identified where the Enclave is basing their operation. Based on the data you brought us from the relay station, we've identified where the Enclave is basing their operation. It seems they have a second base of operations at Adams Air Force base, outside of DC. The only safe way to get there is through the Presidential Metro used by the government before the war."

This must be some strange usage of the word safe that I wasn't previously aware of.*

*Internet high five for getting the reference. Without Google of course.

Seriously, the metro is just filled with a huge amount of ghouls, including a few Reavers.

"You're going to be on your own again for now: the rest of the Brotherhood will be providing a distraction so you can slip in undetected."

I love how it's them creating the distraction and not us. I get gameplay and story segregation, blah blah blah, but the game still hasn't come up with a decent explanation for why we're so important, aside from being a fucking badass.

"Once you breach the Presidential Metro and get to Adams Air Force Base, look for the Resupply Crate. Inside, you'll find your new orders and hopefully we can put a working Tesla Cannon into your hands."

You had me at Tesla Cannon, fuck yeah.
So how many people have actually played through Broken Steel to the end? Just curious.

1. Skyrim looks good, the engine does not. Personally, I was hoping they'd harness some of that iD Tech, but they haven't. Not going to actually buy Skyrim till I get a better PC, but I'm definitely giving it a rent Friday.

2. I love Hitchhiker's Guide. Favorite series of books.

3. I dunno, I know not everybody has played through the game's DLC.

1. I see. I'll be missing out on it, as it's just not my type of game, personally. I didn't like Oblivion, and I doubt I'll like this.

2. Never actually read it. I just learned that quote from a friend.

3. I see. I only skipped MZ. Other than that, I played the DLC.

Oh, and I have a question for you:

If the year ended today:
A) What is your Game of the Year?

B) What is the game of this year that you liked the least/hated the most?

A) Most certainly Dark Souls, with Portal 2 and Human Revolution being the other games I liked most this year.

B) Honestly, I've played quite a few games this year and there really hasn't been any game that I didn't enjoy. I suppose the game that I had the most issues with was Brink, but there were a lot of aspects of the game that I really liked and I find a lot of criticism for the game to be unfounded. There just wasn't a whole lot of content to the game, which was a shame.

I see. I haven't played many "new" games this year myself. I am going to get the Augmented Edition for Deus Ex if I can find it. It really looks like a fun game.

Hey, quick question. Are the social augmentations worth picking up? I usually put points into whatever the speech related things are in RPGs (Diplomacy in NWN2, for example). I keep hearing mixed results on this.

I've never played it without the Social Augmentations, but I'd say they are worth it.

Ironic. I've read the entire Hitchhiker's Guide series multiple times and I still didn't recognize the quote.

And I also played through Broken Steel.

IIRC, that grate is actually a trap door that an inattentive player might fall through.

Good to know.

Any other tips?

I don't know if that's Irony per se. But it's close.
