Ugh...and have more unquestionably heroic american GIs mow down german and japanese soldiers by the truckload in some pathetically unrealistic way that will make the average uneducated/retarded gamer think that there was some sort of glory to be found in that war that happened exactly as portrayed in the bloody game. Thanks, but no thanks. The only ww2 game I actually enjoyed was Battlefield 1942, and that was only because the multiplayer allowed for so many vehicles in addition to the forced teamplay.

Here's a ww2 game I would actually play:
First, you pick your country. You are a lowly private in the army of the country you chose. You go through basic training, becoming familiar with equipment and choosing a specialty. The war breaks out, and you fight on the frontlines. The combat is realistic, one hit and you're out, and your story will be over. You are only a single soldier, so your actions will not decide the fate of a battle, but you will be able to protect your comrades. The idea is not to win, but to survive, to go on and continue to fight. You will see the major battles your company has historically been involved in, which will increase replay value. The war will end accurately, and you will not be the one to raise the red flag over the Reichstag, or pilot the Enola Gay. You are a nobody, and your epilog will tell the tale of this nameless soldier, how many of his comrades lived, whether he faced trail for war crimes, whether he died of wounds, or whether he became a hero. The idea is to show that there are no heroes in war, just soldiers following orders.

You should probably try out every Brothers in Arms game. Yes, I do want another WWII game, but that's only because I know a shitton about WWII. I find it very fun to point out the flaws in history of most, if not all, WWII games. However, if you're a PC player, the newest Red Orchestra game is coming out soon (if it hasn't already) AND it's soundtrack is being made by Sam Hulick, the guy who made the Mass Effect soundtrack.

no, i danced on the genre's grave, it may be upset if it is revived.

i dislike the WWII games because they are all the same, same guns, fighting the same enemy. if i wanted the same everything, all the time, i would play world of warcraft.

In World War 2 464 people received the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States. So there are heroes in war. And what's wrong with playing as the pilot of the Enola Gay?

How is killing anybody a hero? Besides, the same could be said about Iron Cross recipients, so your point is entirely moot. And playing as a "hero" would completely undermine the point of my hypothetical game: there is no glory in war. The point is simple: you are not the stereotypical Hollywood soldier. You are no hero, you won't do anything important. You are a soldier, you follow orders, and you try to survive. That's it.

For some reason people dislike WWII shooters. I never understood why. Many tell me that there are way to many out there all ready, and that they are boring. Really?
They are not boring in nature, they are too many in numbers. WWII is done to death in games. so is Vietnam and "modern" shooters. Where is WWI? or the Korean war? better yet is where is all the top AAA titles that have nothing to do with history or "modern"? we have a few select top titles that are currently modern in genre, and all the fantasy/scifi titles are like AA compared(Halo was supposedy dropped form having anymore sequals so it doesnt count now, if the supposed wasnt ture and more sequals OTW then i have allot of rewriting...).

It's not that they killed people, what makes them heroes is they risked their own lives to save the lives of their fellow soldiers. Hell the soldiers that can come back home after doing what they had to do to survive over there and still live normal lives, those people are also heroes.

Now this is just me, but I always thought that there should be a survival horror set in WWII (no not nazi zombies) Not sure entirely how it would work, but like a paratrooper totally misses his mark and lands in somewhere where some creepy stuff is going down.
Which is either Wolfenstein or Nazi zombies.
That's strange because you didn't want to refer to nazi zombies.
Wow I totally forgot about Wolfenstein. Never mind then I guess it has been done.

How bout a game where you are NOT an American, like being a member of the Afrika Corps or a tank commander at the Battle of Kursk. World War 2 started over 2 years before Pearl Harbour and there are allot of groups and battles to focus on, from the French Resistance to the St Nazaire Raid.

Sorry, I just find that quite comical. No soldier is ever worth any admiration, at least in my opinion. I am so bloody sick of movies and games portraying vainglorious imbeciles who end up in the military (presumably for lack of other options) as some sort of paragon of whatever nation they happen to belong to (America, usually). It bores me to death, and I hate the mentality that war is ever good for anything other than thinning out the working class. I'm pretty sure you won't agree, and that's fine. I just wanted to write out the roughest of outlines for what I would want to see in a ww2 game that wouldn't put me to sleep.
