Let's talk about Death Note

I found Death Note to be good at the time. But after reading it (I didn't watch the anime,) I learned that there are better psychological thrillers. Not that Death Note was bad, but I found it kind of over the top at most points, and the basic characterizations and motivations seemed to get lost behind all the psychological battles which made me lose interest. But it's enjoyable and interesting for the most part. Just not as amazing as it could have been.

My favourite super-psychological chess game has got to be Liar Game though. It's awesome, because the premise of the series is actually total backstabbing and secrecy, rather than just being involved with it. Plenty of very logical plot twists, all tied in completely with fucking with other people's heads.

Why would you compare Deathnote to Naruto and Bleach? They're not even the same genre.

Because they are both shonen

No, they're not. Naruto and Bleach are shonen, Deathnote is Seinen.

The characters are one-dimensional, unlikeable, pose too much, and the show is built around perhaps the stupidest premise in existance.

There is no reason at all to read it if you are a heterosexual male.

OT: I tried to get into this show. Cowboy Bebop and Trigun were my favorites.

Of all the anime I've watch Death Note was my least favorite, I was just forcing myself through every episode. It just seemed so... bland, the characters were so un-interesting. Except for L,

He fucking died.

What's worse it at times they made it seem like they were gonna go into his back story a little and reveal a little about his past, and I thought "Yeah, I'd really like to know a bit more about this show's one good character!" and then the show slapped me in the face with the above event.

He is and he acts like it. That's normally what ends up grating against people. Also, Near expressed actual hatred towards Light in his tone, whereas L simply ended up seeing it as a sort of competition.

... Are we thinking about the same series here? Because the series I'm of was one of the most brilliant pieces of work I've ever had the privilege of reading/watching.

OT: I loved Deathnote. It essentially ruined anime/manga for me though, as everything afterwards just seemed so generic and bleh. I hated Near (god, how I hate Near), but Mello was awesome enough to make up for it, so it all works out.

He's a child version of L. Granted, he was slightly more hostile towards Kira, but otherwise, the same character. It was just kind of a boring character to introduce.

Spoiler: Just in case someone is REALLY behind the times

We had L, and the author thought it a good idea to kill him off. That was a great moment in the story, because it left everyone guessing, "How the fuck is Light going to get his comeuppance? Does he actually win?" And it left everyone wondering where the story was going to go. Time jump to a world ruled by Kira? Is it going to be more action oriented with a group of radicals trying to overthrow a government ruled by Kira? What's next?

Then... They just bring back L, in child form. It was just kind of a cop-out, I think. I think they could have been more creative with it. L is truly the only complaint I have (writing-wise, I should say. As I made evident in my previous post, I support Kira) with Deathnote.

I loved Mello though. He was new and fresh. That's why I was able to overlook Near.

If there's anyone to blame for a lack of us it's 4Kids for bastardizing the show and making it seem like it's for kids. It's ok though since One Piece destroys Bleach and Naruto in Japanese sales.

Actually it is. Death Note ran in Shonen Jump, a magazine that only contains Shonen manga. It didn't run in a Seinen magazine like Afternoon.

Well it didn't have "Filler Only" episodes but it have a lot of time wasting.
