Without socialism you would get much more money from your job.
That, and our country is about 30 times bigger than yours. The goverment is not only inefficient, but often untrustworthy. If it goes down a communist road, we could very easily turn into the next russia or china. So most people just want to nip it in the bud while it's still at the socialism stage.
Plus most people ideologically believe in the vision of capitalism and would oppose socialism on ethical grounds.
Fornication thing is embedded in the culture from our past. Even if the country as whole (sadly imo) is much more sexually promiscious, politicians are expected to be moral and proper.
I'm a student for 40h a week not counting study time, I don't have time for a job., I have to learn.
Why would I earn more money without the socialism influence all european countries have? If I treat someone in a few years the kind of treatment I give determines the payment. I don't care if the patient himself or a private/public medical insurance pays. I get the money either way.
Yes, the US is much bigger. But don't you think our governments are also inefficient and untrustworthy? Believe me, they are. Thats why there's a constant struggle between it and every interest group in existence. Its a kind of democracy, I guess, without really involving the voters. But it works, by and large, life isn't bad anywhere in the EU. The bad, untrustworthy governments usually see to that, so...
Why someone would oppose socialism on ethical grounds is.. kind of hard to understand for me. It is, unlike most people believe, not the end of the reward for work. It just means that everyone is, in a tiny proportion, working for everybody else not just themselves. Thats a form of compassion. And since we humans can be a pretty coldhearted bunch I think mandatory compassion is kind of a good idea until we warm to the idea of being generally nice, don't you?
And you could never get a communist US.
Yes, "fornication" is indeed buried in our past - just ask the romans. My question was aimed at something that often comes from the (religious)-far-right, something along the lines of "schools teach young kids to fornicate" (meaning sex education, the most important thing you can teach a kid inferior only to critical/independent thinking), where I keep asking myself why thats supposed to be bad.
Even the pope is not against sex (in itself) and he is.. well, the pope.
But maybe that stems from a hard religious view and since I left christianity behind me years ago I simply can't see the point.
*: According to the Bible, "Antichrist" just means athiest.
What a line a bullshit. Go back to bible class and re-read that nice collection of books. You are simply wrong.
Not that the bible isn't against people denying the existence, it is.. but this statement as it is, is false.
