OK that cheer is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY inappropriate for a 6 year old's cheer squad, but on the other hand it was the MOTHER who was doing the complaining, the kid didn't do anything so why is she getting punished?

I'm Pedobear, and I approve this cheer.
Yeah, well I live in California so I already been "warned" about him. Of course most things that California does are ridiculous and a complete waste of our money. Still the idea of a 6 year old doing a cheer like that? I wonder if the coach drives a windowless van.

But a 6 year should not say that. Ever. Coach is a pedophile.

And look at where their hands are going while doing that rhyme... Chant... Thing. They are playing with their not-yet-existent breasts.

If you guys need me, I'll be vomiting over there.

Totally. First line needs four syllables at least. 4-4-4-4 pattern, not a 3-5-8. (At the least 3-5-3-5) And Skirts is a group noun in that usage or at least the verb is implied in the possession.

C-
My back aches
My skirts are too tight
My butt shakes
From the left to right

Is that any better?
Still got the problem with plurals wrongly used, too many syllables in the last line and it's still creepy as hell.

Possibly better would be:

Shake those skirts,
Wave your arms,
We're so cute,
Watch our charms.

You know...tone it down a little?

That little girl should count her blessings. Her overbearing mother's attempt to live vicariously through her (cheerleading at six? Sounds like someone's grooming their child to overcome their previous, worryingly specific highschool memories of rejection) has been foiled. Let's hope the rest of that little girl's life is similarly smiled upon by fortune.

Also, it doesn't sound all that racy to me when you consider the context of the actual phrase. I realize we live in a post-hiphop world where the word "booty" means "a large, attractive behind that one would enjoy interacting with in various ways during copulation", back in grammar school "booty" meant butt in the same context as "I'll kick your butt" or "you're a butthead". It's harmless. So, can we stop this whole "I have no idea what a pedophile is actually like so everybody that acts remotely suspicious is a child molester" thing? We're not all living in an arctic research station being stalked by a shape-shifting alien.

Die, pedo scum!

Saying "booty" and "skirt" in unrelated lines of a cheer in front of a minor is considered devious? Think of this like a Tae Kwan Do class for children (they exist, I was in one): the idea is to hurt somebody else, the language references war and combat and prideful violence (hand-me-down language from adult courses that doesn't actually harm anyone), but these kids aren't kicking each others' asses, they're just learning a few cute moves at combat day-care; similarly, a cheerleading program for children is going to have the same motifs (hand-me-down language from adult courses that doesn't actually harm anyone) as a program for a higher age range, but these kids aren't going to be wearing slut-tastic uniforms and getting knocked up by the football team. There's nothing inherently sexual about the activity, so the word "booty" remains inert, instead of being amplified to "FACE DOWN, ASS UP, THAT'S THE WAY WE LIKE TO FUCK".

Oh, and the arbitrary decision to ban the kid because of her mom was hilarious. The mother was over-reacting to something insignificant after enrolling her daughter in cheerleading at an age where she's just now understanding how to avoid pissing the bed; I'd call it karma having a sense of humor. Before you say "but what about the little girl, she'll be devastated": it's cheerleading for kids, she won't remember more than a few flashes of it when she grows up, anyway. For all I know, the rest of my youth soccer team was killed by a meteorite impact immediately after I stopped going.

[sub]Or we could just continue to over-react, and pass legislation that requires every DJ playing this at a middleschool dance to register as a sex offender.[/sub]

Well I definitely wouldn't want my 6-year old girl saying that in a cheer, I have to say. Not sure she deserved to be kicked off, but I would take her off as a parent.

I usually don't insult ppl...but. EVERYONE in that audience is a sick perverted pedophile.

I feel sick, whoever coached those kids should have an immediate psychological check-up (propably the ones int the audience too)

btw: Someone should get this video to the mom in that story.

EDIT: Hey! Wait a minute, how did u find this video? Though, maybe u were just looking for the worst possible scenario for this topic (i hope).
It was on the Escapist before, and it burned into my mind. It was easy enough to find, youtube "single ladies young dancers".

See above.

EDIT: Also, yes they have mad skillz. Now, if only A. They channeled the skills somewhere less disturbing, put on clothes and lowered the thrusting level, or B. weren't freaking EIGHT YEARS OLD.

Why is paedophilia on the rise again?

Eurghh, I don't like the idea of cheerleaders at the best of times, but six years old is pushing it.
"What's that honey? You have an IQ of ten, but you can clap like a seal very well? Then become a cheerleader!"

6-year-olds shouldn't be cheerleaders in the first place, let alone saying shit like that.

waitaminute! are you saying that the COACH came up with that cheer?!?! (ewww, pervert!) and even if it was a normal cheer, whatever her mum did, doesnt warrant her getting kicked off the team! "judge not the sins of the father" and all that, right?

My thoughts on this subject are surprisingly a little differant from most.

For starters, I think people yell "Pedo" too easily, and over the most ridiculous things. The problem with Pedos is largely that they cause things that are largely innocent, like this, to be taken waaaay out of context.

One thing to understand is that Cheerleading can be a BIG deal and highly competitive. The best cheerleaders start at a very early age, have special coaches, and everything else.

What's more little girls want to be like the big girls, and can usually tell when they are being patronized. A girl doing cheerleading is going to want to do it like the Pros that she is presumably trying to emulate.

When it comes to parents pushing, all nightmare stories aside, one has to understand that children change their minds at the drop of a hat. If a kid expresses an interest in doing something like this, in many cases the best thing a parent can do is force them to stick with it, as opposed to getting them to bounce around from thing to thing, and eventually wind up not becoming good at anything. There are cases with parents living vicariously through their children for things like this, but such things are the exception rather than the rule. This is also out of context for this discussion (but some people already mentioned it).

Generally speaking this is pretty much "par for the course" cheerleading, and teaching her to do it "right" is very important and that is going to include some suggestive mannerisms and cheers, because that is what cheerleaders do. She's practicing early on in an ultra-pee wee league for what she is presumably preparing to do later on in high school and college. All wish fulfillment fantasy arguements aside, understand that starting this early on things like this can make a kid very competitive and get them scholorships and everything else.

If you change the way things are done to make it "less contreversial" in the eyes of certain people, you destroy the entire point of training from that early an age.

I'll also go so far as to say that things have been like this for a long time, and before people were dropping the word "Pedo" at everything due to paranoia. When it comes to the cheer here, the dance video someone put up, and other things I will point out that little kids acting the part of adults in mannerisms and such, is considered by most people to be cute, or funny. Someone getting seriously aroused/turned on by that is not a result of the behavior, but something seriously wrong with the viewer.

One of the reasons why I am bothering to respond in this much detail is largely because I went to a Luau at Sea World while I was just on Florida on vacation. At the end of the performance they had a little girl come out with the other dancers and do the whole Hula thing (hips, grass skirt, etc...). It was cute, since as they said she was practicing to do it professionally. I suppose someone could turn it into something sick, but I didn't get that vibe from it, and for some reason this whole case seems like some parent being stupid and over reactionary.

You follow this line of paranoia through to it's conclusion and soon all kinds will be required by law to run around in boxes with eyeholes for fear that somewhere, someone, could be sexualizing them for breathing.

Somehow, this story reminds me of that film Little Miss Sunshine, specifically the scene at the contest. Though that was at least funny, in a wierd sort of way.

This is indeed rather creepy, I'd say the mum was right to complain. While the girl really shouldn't have been kicked of the team, it's probably for the best. Would you really want your 6 year old kid being on a team with those kind of cheers?
