Longer than 7 minutes? Hahahaha! I listen to classical music, and symphonies can happily go for an hour and a half in some cases! Seven minutes is nothing, I would hazard a guess that 85% of the movements I listen to within symphonies or concertos go for longer than that time. For example, with Beethoven's Violin Concerto, the first movement is 25 minutes long, aruseusx said:List your favourite songs that last longer than 7 minutes. I say list because songs that last longer than 10 minutes won't be found on youtube.
The Odyssey by Symphony X (24 minutes)
The Divine Wings of Tragedy by Symphony X (20 minutes)
A Passion Play by Jethro Tull (45 minutes)
Shogun by Trivium (12 minutes)
Well symphonies are meant to be long. They were like movies for the people back then.Inverse Skies said:Longer than 7 minutes? Hahahaha! I listen to classical music, and symphonies can happily go for an hour and a half in some cases!
Fair enough most of A Passion Play if Ian Anderson faffing around with his flute and spoken word interlude.Inverse Skies said:For example, with Beethoven's Violin Concerto, the first movement is 25 minutes long,
Well that explains why you were so up about it.Inverse Skies said:Hahahaha! I listen to classical music.
Though mostly I'm a metal-head, I enjoy classical music at times and this was one of the cases. Though Mozart owns Beethoven anyday. The fact that requiem wasn't finished by him you could have imagined how awesome the rest of it would have been.Inverse Skies said:
Really? Mozart over Beethoven? I've found that upon listening to say, all 27 of Mozart's Piano Concertos compared to Beethoven's 5 that Mozart was much more formulaic than Beethoven, Beethoven was more willing to try new things and break out from the accepted ways of doing things so to speak. Things like opening his 4th piano concerto with solo piano, his third symphony being the longest to date when it was written and his 9th bringing choral pieces into a symphony for the first time. I guess if you look at output then Mozart was by far and away the best, no-one except maybe Bach comes close to equalling the amount of songs that he wrote over a given time period, but I've always felt that Beethoven has a lot more depth to his songs. Personally I've just enjoyed them more.aruseusx said:Though mostly I'm a metal-head, I enjoy classical music at times and this was one of the cases. Though Mozart owns Beethoven anyday. You're not allowed an opinion anymore. Terribly sorry.SirDeadly said:Jesus of Suburbia ~ Greenday
See, it's weird that way. Honestly, Tool is the only band I can think of that writes songs like that that are completely uninteresting. I think they're good - but their songs just seem to go on and on, without ever really doing anything interesting. That's just my opinion though.Sonofadiddly said:10,000 Days - Tool - 11 minutes. Well in the end it all comes down to taste and I haven't listened to all their songs as they both have over 200 songs. But then as I said earlier I'm mainly a metalhead and the longest non-progressive metal song is At War With Satan by Venom as I recall.Inverse Skies said:Really? Mozart over Beethoven?
