Despite being a new member to these forums, I would be all for creating an Escapist clan, One of the things I have to say about the game is it is almost 30 times better playing with people you know, and the community is some of the best I have found in RPG's, In guildwars, all I could find were people who play the game much like real life, they find the best way to win, and go for it and that usually includes having a few friends they can bring into there quests that require assistance, And then I find "business" men the ones that add you just to try and sell you things, and the only reason you keep them on you friend list is because you know one day they may have something you want, or vice versa. And on MapleStory good luck finding anyone who will have any more then 30 line conversation with you, because there all to busy min/max'ing to the max...(/min) Runescape though, I have met many an MSN friend, Whom I have talked late into the night with thru Runescape, and a lot of those people strike up conversations just to have someone to Pm during the more tedious moments of game play (Do I seriously need 40 woodcutting to finish this darn quest, that opens up a way to get good items, that I need another 50 levels of woodcutting to get?) Yes, some areas of the game are exceedingly tedious, but for story, (Yes I know at times it is very elementary cut and dry, Your the good one there the bad ones kind of story telling, but somehow they keep it fresh) and community, I say Runescape can't be beat.

they made HD graphics mandatory sometime last year also they have added a few better features the graphics engine (not much though)tghm1801 said:

Well the graphics have indeed somewhat improved, but it doesn't persuade me to play it again.

The problem I eventually stumbled upon is the fact that I'm no grind guy. Stuff has to happen either now or in a very short time span.

But if you are refering to the game as a whole since the last time you've played it, then it might be worth taking a look, as the graphics have improved (though still laughable), and little bits here and there have been tweaked.
only if you pay though will any significant improvements show, and if your gonna pay for an mmo, there are far better value/quality games out there, in fact i would only recomend it if you have spent a MASSIVE amount of time building up levels and computer power limitation is a problem for you.
although it is a middle finger to players who not pay for membership, the game is pretty impressive. for a free webbased game it really large and had lots of players. it looks indeed better and better. i can remember that the half pf my school played the game. it was rally populair. and the quest are really good. they aer not those easy MMO quest like kill 8 boars. but real hard quest with lot of travveling.

I prefer not to play games with 'Run' and 'Escape' in the title.
That said, yes, the graphics look prettier, but that isn't quite enough for me to give it a second chance yet. Back when it was still forests of polygons, the reason it sucked was because it was an unrelenting grind-fest (at least it was for me), not because the polygon was a woefully misunderstood graphical utensil that only its mother would love (which it may or may not be, I wouldn't know).
That said, yes, the graphics look prettier, but that isn't quite enough for me to give it a second chance yet. Ive stopped playing those kind of games (ie: adventarqest, clb pngin and most)
because I realized something YOU ONLY GET 10% OF THE CONTENT the rest you have to flippin buy!
(yes i am pretty childish) I mean with games like WoW then its "Buy this and you play the whole game" and you only have to continuously pay to play (Only low amount per month so thats okay)
but the rest of the games are like "we're free" but then you go in and try to get to lvl such and such and suddenly "Oh you have to pay £11 to continue and we will make you continuously pay £20 even if you dont play and end your account!"

By this point runescape really cant be called a free to play MMO anymore..its a pay to play semi browser semi download based MMO with an large demo XD. Seriously. literally 90% of the game is members only, and every single new skill, item, zone they add is always members only. That being said, for 5 bucks a month (I assume thats still what it costs, but I havnt played in years) its not a bad offer for people who like really large and open grind games.
When I was 10 years old I started playing that game, and still wasn't willing to play as a non member because of all the lost content, I just cant play a game unless I get the whole game. Which is why I hate alot of FTP titles to begin with =\.
