I logged in the other day to have a look around. It looks like they've added some cool new stuff, but I can't be bothered to start playing again now I'm so out of the loop and have no friends on it.

I do however still have around 5 million in gold and items if I ever do want to play again.
i can has secret? i never got above 300k :(
Grind cheap stuff that nobody else can be arsed to grind and sell it with a 9900% markup.
Yeah, that's how I make my fortunes in WoW as well.

"What's that? You'd like some copper ore? WELL NOW, I've got just what you're looking for!

... for a modest fee."

they have put in fail guards to stop people from doing that sorta thing. *sad face*

the american dream on runescape is now dead to me.
Fail guards? How exactly are they preventing people from being willing to pay 2000gp a piece for plain bones?

well, they can't STOP you from doing that once, but the trade screen has an are you sure, and you have a profit per time limit as well, which increases with the number of quests you complete.
if you complete all the free to play quests, the limit is 10000gp per hour i think.

But perhaps more damaging to the profiteers is the grand exchange, a place where everyone can trade items for gold (and vice versa) with all players on every server. It has a limit on how far your price can deviate from the average price (or "market value"), which is calculated using a system of supply and demand. so if people are buying bones for 2000, a bunch of people are gonna start selling bones and that brings the price right down.

Also, you now have the ability to see how much any item is going for on the GE, no matter where you are, so there is no more tricking noobs into thinking a dagger is the zepher blade.

That answer your question?

PS. gee jagex seems to like noobs a lot more than their veteran players.

It's better than most browser games, but the community sucks.
let me tell you a story.
i was low on cash one day so went to hunt low levels in the wilderness. of course i left my Zamorak trimmed Rune armour in the bank and wore some bronze platemail that i had made. as i entered Edgevile and was about to enter the wilderness another player walked up to me. initiated a trade. and handed me 16 sets of full rune armour and a Dragon Longsword.

needless to say that i sold 15 of the sets, kept one as a memento and the Dragon Longsword became my signiture weapon.

i never saw that player again.
Um.....WOW.
That's crazy...

Community's still a ***** though.

Me:"Can I have some help on a quest?"
Everyone:

"NOOB"
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOB"
"GTFO out noob"
"you suck noob"
tip.it

it's website that tells you everything you need/want to know.

I am level 110 ish and never asked anybody for help, the community is very elitist and aggressive for the most part, but there is no need for interaction with other people.

The GE (grand exchange) lets you trade without talking to people.

The F2P (free to play) quests can be done by level 60/70 odd, so after that you kind of have to become a member.

Ugh, I played Runescape when I was younger for SO long... of course, I never paid for it, and once you get rune and dragonhide armor and the fancy weapons, leveled up enough to get in all the guilds and found out that they were boring, and pretty much did every quest, there wasn't much reason to keep playing other than stacking more money. Which was surprisingly fun.

Heh, I logged on not too long ago when I remembered my 3-years-gone account and decided to make a newbie's day VERY good by giving him stacks upon stacks of gold and all my fancy stuff.

I'd say it's one of the best MMO's out there in terms of content. The developers of most other MMO's bring out 10 new games a year rather than focus on making a single game really good.

On the other hand it's ruined by the community, i checked back recently and straight away heard people calling each other noobs. I thought that word had died out years ago >.<

And it does have some pretty chunky flaws, at least from what i remember. The terrible amount of bag space makes you reliant on the bank, the death penalty is so ridiculous it might as well have you start the game from scratch at times, and money is so damn hard to earn you end up making mining your 2nd job.

One player being nice doesn't change the fact that the community sucks. Every bad community is bound to have a few decent people among their ranks, and the same in reverse.

anyone interested in creating an Escapist clan?
Yeah, that sounds sort of fun. I don't really have a whole lot of spare time though, and probably won't be able to pay for membership, at least for a while, though.

This was awesome.

I mean it was damn good for the price, £3.50 a month I think against WoW's £9. Granted it wasn't so big and whatnot, but for a browser game it's very impressive.

And some of the quests were pretty deep. I barely scratched the surface of all there was to offer and I played for a good few years.

Runescape has the best quests in the whole MMO genre......

:D
In the case that you were sarcastic, it does have some awesome quests indeed! I remember playing it when I was 8 or something, having to mediate between a (hilarious) dispute between goblins, or the whole Romeo and Julia thing.

It's one of the best browser based games out there if you ask me.
Don't forget Earnest the chicken.....

If an Escapist clan is being made count me in. It has been a while since I played Runescape. Nether really got into it though, might as well try now. When you have it set up, just tell me who to contact.
