From 160m quid, I'd probably invest 150m of to become a patron of technology. Maybe establish a faculty of genetics in a university somewhere, where the profits from therapies developed are reinvested into the school and staff to attract the best and brightest, as well as keeping it as self-sufficient as possible.

With the remaining 11m, I'd ensure my parents have the retirement they always wanted, my sister and my nephew's future guaranteed (I'd give them a base-salary allowance for 20yrs, meaning that if they wanted more than the minimum, they'd still need to work hard), and my son's future is safe (he has a rare condition and will likely require treatment all his life). Probably buy land in a remote yet fibre-optically covered area of Scotland somewhere and let my survivalist leanings take over - I'd need to stay lean and Spartan because my Scorpio character loves to indulge.

But Sparta aside, holy shit can you imagine the LAN parties ?!?!!!

I'd just gradually buy all the things I want. I don't particularly want a massive house so I'd get a nice one in a good location, but it probably wouldn't be that expensive. My dream car is a Lotus Evora. If I had someone come up to me and say that I have the choice between a free Evora and free Bugatti, I'd take the Evora. That car isn't that expensive so it wouldn't be outlandish to say I just bought it. Other than that I'd do the classic big TV and all that stuff for my house, but it wouldn't particularly scream "I just won THAT much money", especially not over a period of time.

I wouldn't go public with the knowledge.

I'd buy back my childhood home and rent it out.

I'd pay off my brother & sister-in-law's mortgage and my mother-in-law's mortgage. I'd buy my dad something nice.

I'd put some money away for when my sister finishes high school.

anything left would be either invested or put in a term deposit.

Oh yeah, I'd buy a cheap (less than $20,000) brand new car.

*Face palm* I just thought of something that having money would allow me to do...
I'd take my partner into a private hospital with a cheque book and say "Fix her leg. Today. Here's a blank cheque for the expense. Make it happen."

I honestly have no idea how it'd be possible to keep that much wealth a secret.

Besides, I couldn't even if I wanted to, I know for a fact that one of my brothers would blab within a week.
How does your brother know if it's a secret?

I don't know why, but I thought I'd be in the minority...

I seriously couldn't deal with letters everyday asking for money, death threats or someone trying to hold someone to ransom etc. (Ok, last one is far fetched, but we are talking £161m)

Oh, and I don't want to be the friend who automatically gets the rounds in. I'd do it anyway without friends realising (when they're merry) but god, it's nice to be brought a pint no matter how rich you are.

Nah I wouldn't go public with it, I'd tell my family and my closest friends. I would then proceed to buy a house for my dad, pay back any outstanding debts, renovate the house since it shall now be mine, invite said closest friends to live with me then buy really really nice leather coats.

I won quite a lot of money recently and told only a select few people who kept bitching to find out.

I don't tell people, not even my closest friends.

I don't think you're allowed to be anonymous if you win here in New York. That said, I'd still take the money and let then publish my name.

I really don't know what I'd do with my life. I'm a grad student now, and I might just keep that up. I like math, and I really like university-level teaching. I'd just be the richest grad student there ever was. I don't even think I'd change my lifestyle much (my IKEA furniture works fine for me, I don't really mind cleaning my apartment, etc). I'd probably do a lot of donating to charities.

Being a lawyer who hates how money controls the legal system, I would probably start a law firm/lobbying firm which focuses on countering corporate and wealthy people's abuses. Due to my age, I would be afraid that if people knew who was controlling the company they would attempt to subvert my authority. For that reason, I would run the company by proxy and do my best to remain the anonymous authority figure who keeps the firm from turning into another profit-seeking abuse of power.

So yeah, I would do my best to keep the fact that I won the money secret. Otherwise, it would be harder to do what I want with it.

I'd keep it quiet. I'd let my family and possibly some friends know, but that's it. I'd be paranoid if I revealed myself, and probably get people asking for money all the time. I wouldn't want people to like me for my money, but for me.

I would.

Then I would sponsor assloads of projects in my town to show all those pricks in high school who controls what....

Then I would assassinate people and be able to get off scott free because I have the cash and the lawyers!

Oh Shi....my plans!

I'd keep it quite.
Don't want all my friends asking for hand outs.
Fuck off scroungers, get your own remarkable luck!
