Let's put things in perspective. In Australia (New South Wales at least), prostitution is legal. Whores need to be registered and have regular STD tests. I can't think of a single instance in human history where banning prostitution has made one iota of difference. Because it's illegal, a whore can be subject to abuse, STDs, rape, have atrocious pay, and have no recourse because it's a crime. If prostitution is legal but regulated, the risks to her are drastically reduced, because now she has the right to fair pay, the right to seek recourse if she's abused, and so on.Mistah Kurtz post=18.75110.857745 said:Yeah, actually outlawing abortion does reduce the number of abortions. That's like saying keeping marijuana illegal doesn't affect the amount of it in circulation. Any pot smoker will tell you horror stories of multi-month dry spells they've gone through - we're going through one right now and I haven't been able to find any weed for over 2 months now because of a huge pot bust in our state. You have a point about abstinence education, but to say that we should continue to practice a legal form of (what some consider) murder because people are going to illegally murder anyway is absolutely nonsensical.
It's a similar situation for abortion. Making it illegal might discourage a few, but there will always be people who want an abortion, and where there's a will, there's a way. If that way is not legal, there is no quality control, no way to ensure the abortion that these people go through is anything more than inventive use of a coathanger, which puts her life at massive risk. Banning abortions doesn't stop abortions, it just makes it more dangerous.
