Meh, Star Wars is his to mess with. (Though I wish he would release all the versions to Blu-Ray so we could pick which we wanted to buy).

However, the ability to take my kids (who will be 9 and 7 when the first comes out) to see Star Wars in theaters is something I'm INCREDIBLY excited about :D

While I'm not speaking on behalf of every person in the United States, but I'm pretty positive most people will have the equivalent of a home theater system. And why would anyone want to go into an overcrowded theater with annoying people and equally annoying children?
Because there is a certain magic about seeing it on a screen several stories high.

Whoah whoah WHOAH!

Hold on a second! So now we have to watch giagantic space-battles with so many lazers and explosions fucking up the screen everywhere from a perspective that makes viewing EVEN MORE DIFFICULT!?

I have a better idea. Grab yourself a laser-pen, poke yourself in the eye a few times, stare into a plastic milk bottle, then shine the pen on the bottle. Not only will you have a more enjoyable viewing experience, but your chances of being rendered blind by a phenomenal amount of CGI have been dramatically reduced!

You guys are a bunch of whiners. Seriously.

Also ALL of the movies were good....so quit whining about bad ones when there WERE NO BAD ONES.
This is quite simply wrong, the originals had tight stories and were proof that when a man doesn't have total creative control, a good movie can be made.

The prequels however show how much George Lucas was kept in check by other creative influences in the originals. The new films have awkward acting, the actors are for the most part horribly miscast, the dialogue is ham-fisted and awkward, the story is full of plot conveniences, most of the time they make no sense and totally don't convey anything the original trilogy was attempting to tell us.

Yeah? Anakain and Obi-Wan are friends? Sure didn't seem that way to me. Leia knew her mum? Too bad she died 20 seconds after she was born.

This is James Cameron's fault.
agreed...

OT: If they re-release these in 3D there's also the chance that they will show them in the original, 2D format. I'm going to hope for that while not thinking about similarities between The Apocalypse and Phantom Menace being re-released in 2012

The magic dies the moment a baby is crying and some douche is kicking the back of my seat.

Hey George any chance of you redoing the prequels in Won't-Completely-Destroy-the-Continuity-and-Mythos-of-the-Original-Moviesoscope (or as I like to call it: WCDTCAMOTOMoscope)?

Well, that's your issue. Obviously if everyone thought movie theaters were a waste, no one would go to them.

If you have no interest seeing it in theaters, great. But there's no reason, regardless of what we have at home, the rest of us aren't going to enjoy it.

Hasn't Lucas proven he's lost his mind enough and is only in it now for the payday?
he lost his mind because he wants to make more money? I'd just say he's a greedy arse shat who's still riding the "I made an epic sci-fi film!" horse.
Call it.. "Two mutually exclusive thoughts that I never should have merged into one compound sentence." He's lost his mind. He's just in it for the money.

But totally agree with you to..

George Lucas,

THE STAR WARS FRANCHISE IS OVER, FOR FUCK'S SAKE, JUST LET GO!!!
On the contrary, Star Wars the force unleashed game(s) is pretty good and I have a feeling that The Old Republic is gonna be pretty good.

Well, I'm hoping that they'll have some success in theaters. I don't think it's much a good idea though, considering tons of people have already seen the films and would usually just rent one of the movies for a day for a dollar, than see it theaters for 10 dollars. Still, the Star Wars films are the kinda stuff most would like to see in 3-D

All I ask of Lucas is to edit some of the stuff people didn't like in the films. Tone down some of Jar Jar's scenes if not all of them, little midi-chlorian discussion unless if they do a better job explaining their role to the audience, tone down Hayden Christensen's whiney voice, and remember that Han shoots first damn it. Oh, and at the end of New Hope, GIVE CHEWIE A DAMN MEDAL!

Why is it that I'm sudden;y reminded of this?

Only replaced with Lucas and a copy of Star Wars instead.
