I started to lurk at the same time the first unskippable came out, mainly because I can never come up with an avatar or a username that I'm happy with.

Don't actually like my current ones either, but something like 9 months was finally too much.

I lurk mostly due to a lack of confidence. You think the whole ''anonymous on the internet'' thing would help that, but alas not. I always feel my post will come across as pointless. That and usually what I have to say has already been said.
I don't even think I'll ever make a thread, and I have thought of some, because I feel no one will look at it, or something like that.
I still lurk mostly, but I coming out of the lurking zone more nowadays.
Also, reading others' comments can be fun as there are some pretty funny people on this site :D

edit: Oh yeah, another reason is that the last forum I was active in was a small enough forum, and I got on pretty well with the community. This forum is a lot bigger, so that didn't help the whole nervousness thing.

I was shown this wonderful site way back in October, and made my account on my 15th birthday last Monday. So I lurked for about 7 months watching ZP and reading the many interesting things to be found here.

*currently in ninja mode* (joke).
I lurked for ages and I didn't even have an account on the escapist (I meanily watched ZP), really I only got into posting 'cos I decided that some of the threads that I was lurking on actually were quite interesting and I wanted to contribute to the debate.
Yeah.
How long? Err... A rather a long time, nearly a year I think...

I did, essentially, not lurk at all.
I encountered the forums one night, and after having browsed through some topic I thought "I lajk" and then created my account here.

Welcome to the site, my man - enjoy your stay. Please do no worship other users.
Thanks! I've never even heard of Furbert. Honest. Or that Neon-boob guy. ;)

That's much like me; I'm not very confident when it comes to expressing my opinions, for the reasons you mentioned. I'm trying to change that now though! I mean, what's the worst that can happen?!
I probably won't post many threads. Just so much pressure to achieve! Gaah!

Yes, I lurked before even considering making an account. I didn't lurk for long (a couple of months, at most) but I lurked rather extensively and thus became fairly versed in the general mood and atmosphere around here.

I lurked for three reasons:
1. To see if this was a nice place to spend my time on.
2. To see if forums really were my cup of tea (having had only one - really bad - experience of forums beforehand)
3. To get a feel of the place, so that my assimilation into the fold would go as smoothly as possible.

Really, if I hadn't lurked, I'd probably had done something stupid and lost interest when I would have been told off.
Remember kids: you can never lurk too much!

Christ, it seems that I have come too late. Lost causes - so saddening.

Will you please refrain from quoting them every half of a second, and just shower them with praise in PMs? Will mean I will not have to read through it ;--)

Hehe, I'll only be quoting people who say interesting things, and I don't do praise very often, so you should be ok there. I'll bear that all in mind though, heh, just for you!

Why that's very nice of you, my good man. Soon you will discover that I am a secret agent keeping tabs on you, and the fact that your "score" just went back into zero from minus-one, will matter a lot.

I lurked for about 6 months before signing up. I found Digg at the start of the college year and found ZP soon after, and its impossible to miss the Forums, so I lurked around everytime something would bring my attention to the site. I never signed up though because the forums always seemed so, 'active', its seemed as if there wasn't going to be room for my opinion on things with so many opinionated individuals around.

Last years March Mayhem forced my hand at signing up though, and I have been increasingly active ever since.

I came here on August the 15th of 2007.

That's 3 years minus half o' year, so I have 'lurked' on the Escapist for 2.5 years.

I lurked for a few months watching ZP. And now I still tend to do more lurking than not because I try to only post when I have something interesting to share...

Except this post isn't very interesting, is it?...

Looks like I should lurk more, I guess.
