A response like that is not acceptable from anyone over the age of 12. Thanks for giving me another reason to never buy Mafia 2 at a retail price.

Okay yes there are alot of games with space marines, but commenting on such does not make you intelligent. It makes you captain obvious.
True as this may be, it's what Yahtzee's built his ENTIRE career around and everyone lines up to suck his balls. Reap what you sew, I suppose...
I do like to sew, although I don't think I can reap those beads. Sowing, on the other hand...

OT: Although I'm not a fan of space marines personally, it's more than a bit immature to decry them and call them "gay" as an insult. I'm disappointed in this producer.

Space Marines maybe, but.. Gay? Was that really necessary?

Oh well. Stay classy, 2K.
Gears of War in particular is so homoerotic that it's a little ironic (or revealing) watching frat boys play it.

the only gay ones I can think of are the Gears of War guys.

Still rooting for Fenix to be wearing the dress at his & Doms inevitable wedding

That's funnier when you know 'rooting' is Strine (aussie slang) for 'fucking'

I'm of the mind aussie slang should be completely disregarded by all simply for "axe wound."

Dude, seriusly? Are they "gay" because of their brightly colored energy weapons and for not saying fuck for every other word like Mafia does?

While I agree with him in principle, the man has some undeserved balls to say that after releasing a GTA clone.
And one that's vastly inferior to the source material at that.

If you wanna fuck them over completely, you should buy it used. I've heard that's worse than piracy these days.

I wouldn't play a game specifically for gay protagonists... I mean, don't get me wrong, I was happy for the gay community when Gears of War came out, and I'd love it if more games featuring gay characters did exist- but I'm not obsessed with them.

Tzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. BURN!

Man speaks the truth.

Inb4 (ok, after) everyone throws a hissy fit because he used "gay" to degrade something. Srsly, who gives a shit?
Yeah, being a kid and coming to terms with my sexuality sure was fun with that attitude floating around.

I don't think he was saying it as an insult, he was just commenting on the homo-erotic way in which they are depicted...just not commenting on it in an effective way.

Let's face it, all the halo, gears of war, killzone etc.. marines are incredibly homo-erotic. I think...think...the guy was commmenting on that fact he would like to see less generic space marine games and less communal showering, sweaty, eternally bonded through hardship marines. eg he wants games where the characters have interesting personalities

I think...

Maybe it's the whole bromance thing going on. They beat you over the head big time with it.

Like, for example, take Dominic Santiago and Marcus Fenix's whole dynamic. They're not gay, at all, but the way they relate to each other is fairly easy to misconstrue, and in some cases it may just come out naturally. It's an overencumbered display of masculinity.

Take it from a straight guy: If they don't turn out to be buttsecks loving tough guys, I'm gonna be seriously disappointed. All those deep glances and shared silences, even the odd homoerotic moments like "'Sup Marcus, haven't seen you in years and I know you're naked and all, I'm gonna break you out of jail", and shit. The whole "Point of Interest" dynamic of the first game is kinda what swayed me to the 'I can't believe they're not gay camp' that while unintended still is kinda distracting. You have been given a whole button to check your relevant 'interests' that other than explosions, demolitions, murder and mayhem, etc., it's always your buddy that you look at. Talk about awkward.

And they're not alone. They are but a sample of a wider breadth of overtly masculine macho-posturing tough guys that go to incredible lengths for their male buddies with the whole world against them.

The mafia 2 producer doesn't seem that discrminatory to me. You could make the argument of the card having been overplayed as it relies on there being paper thin plots because you seriously cannot throw a plot about such pungent male bravado without ignoring the obvious consequences.

Bah, Strine is a language of beauty and expression, you philistine.

And technically it's "furry axe wound"... the expression is older than the popularity of furless ones, so to speak.

Where do you see gaming in 5 years?
Bigger, shinier... and hopefully more innovative with better and better writers and narrative in our medium.
I think he'll be disappointed when all we get is more space marines and Halo clones...

Thank-you. Exactly what you just said. I can see this quote getting blown out of proportion.

Obviously he meant the spartan-like space marine fetish that many gamers seem to have right now. Big, buff, burly, sweaty men in close quarters shooting things with their gigantic guns.

Fixed. Damn Engles should've just kept speaking Norwegian when they conquered the isles and saved us the nightmare of English.
