Methinks the man may have been a wee bit inebriated? Otherwise, I'm at a loss to explain such a poor decision.

So he's;

A) Suicidal

B) a dumbfuck

or C) drunk and into bestiality.

Only 3 reasons I could think of.

Well that sucks. Hopefully they don't have to put the tigers down because of that guy's poor decision. I can only imagine what was going through the staffs' minds when they found him.
They wont, big cats and exotic animals are given special cases in regards to aggression against people. Even in accidents the zoo will get in trouble before the cats do.

The tiger might be put down? That's interesting, because there have been cases here (years ago) where people have broken into or reached into the wolf exhibit at the Toronto Zoo and got attacked. I don't recall any of the wolves being put down, though then again wolves aren't among the largest of the land carnivores and have a natural fear of people. It was years ago, so I can't remember what happened.
They wont, at the zoo where I used to work a handler got killed by a tiger while feeding them from outside their cage. The zoo was sued for negilence and the tiger got a bigger enclosure. It's not like with dogs, everybody knows that tigers are dangerous predators, the only people who will suffer further from this is the zoo itself.

...But of all the ways you could suicide... wouldn't that be one of the more pain infused options?

I mean it SOUNDS more cool on paper but realistically? Probably totally drunk/drugged/off his rocker.

So this makes what, the 106th incident of a guy busting into a wild animal enclosure and getting killed?

I remember the one about a guy who said he could beat a lion in a wrestling match because he meditated so much...or something similar.

Doubt it was a suicide, just doesn't seem logical. "Hey I wanna kill myself. Gun won't do, don't want to hang myself. Oh hey, I know, I'll get brutally mauled to death by tigers."

Chances are he was drunk, high off his ass, or just plain old stupid.

It is quite possible the tigers will have to be put down as a result. You really don't want these huge powerful cats developing a taste for human and more importantly you don't want the animals in your care viewing you as a potential threat
I'm just going to take a wild stab in the dark here but I have a feeling the keepers have always felt a group of 1000lb siberian tigers were always a potential threat.

edit: I realise the error I made here. It's early in the morning and I really need some sleep.

Darwin would be proud. Circle of life, etc.

If it was suicide then I do feel bad that he felt he had to end his life but I do appreciate the slightly amusing way he went about it. If it was stupidity then good job on increasing the average IQ of the world population.

Oh, that poor man! Unjustly struck down in his prime! Surely the tigers must be put down for this terrible crime!

Actually, that's pretty funny. I'm kind of wondering what exactly he expected would happen when he trapped himself in the habitat of three bloodthirsty 500-pound hunters. Unless it was suicide. In which case, I'm sure there are quicker, easier, and less painful ways to go.

Reminds me of a quote from the late great Bill Hicks:

"Ya moron, quit ruining it for everybody. He?s a moron, he?s dead ? good, we lost a moron, fuckin? celebrate. Wow, I just felt the world get lighter. We lost a moron! I don?t mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious?but I am, so that?s the way it comes out. Professional help is being sought."
QFMFT. And kudos to you, sir/madam, for quoting one the best social critics of all time.

He's dead, the tigers should get a fucking prime rib steak. Hopefully this moron didn't procreate so he can receive his Darwin Award. Put on the Hammer album, I'm ready to dance! "We lost a moron!"

Captcha: goody goody gumdrops. You see? Even Captcha agrees that this is a joyous day.

As someone who has worked as a zookeeper, this obviously hits quite close to home. I can't imagine how the keepers must feel. It is quite possible the tigers will have to be put down as a result. Are you serious? The guy climbs over safety fences, into the tiger's den, and they blame the tigers?
Do they also put down horses when you sneak up behind them and get kicked?
Here's an even more frightening question:

If a farmer screws a sheep and the sheep damages his genitalia in any way, does the sheep get put down? Also, does this man qualify for state and/or federal assistance now that his genitalia have been damaged in this fashion? These are the kinda questions that keep me up at 4:30 in the morning.

Well, I guess you could say that the pussy...
*puts on sunglasses*
...ate him.

OT: What a way to go out. You know the man was badass. Though not as badass as Mickey Rourke.

No-one is blaming the tigers but the question will always have to be asked. There aren't too many cases of animals being put down as a result of an attack but if say this had occurred whilst the park was open and the keepers were around, they would have almost certainly been shot dead in order to protect the human. Same if the animals escaped.

If the authorities decided to, at least in Britain they have the ability to call for the destruction of the animal after the loss of human life. But like i said, under these circumstances it is not often taken.

...I can't think of any motive besides suicide. It's not like tigers are the dragons of this world and sleep on a gigantic pile of gold, waiting for a wary traveller to try and seize it from them. The only thing I'd expect to find in a tiger enclosure is tigers and the only thing I expect to me able to do with a tiger is run away for about a ninth of a second before giving it a free lunch.

So, the news report is basically "Man Goes And Does Stupid Thing With Entirely Predictable Results"? I fail to see the problem here.

Either a suicide attempt or an act of sheer stupidity. Never underestimate stupidity. I live about 15 minutes from a blowhole overlooking rough seas and sharp rocks and you always hear about some stupid tourist who thinks playing around it during high tide and strong winds is a good idea. Even after walking past the many warning signs to the contrary, someone tries straddling the thing and gets thrown up into the air and dragged down through the sea caves to their death. And then their family/friends act so shocked and surprised on the evening news, despite the fact the someone took the time to write "Boneyard Reef" on a warning sign with a tally mark underneath.

I wouldn't rule out stupidity either. Its a fairly common source of bemusement among zookeepers on how members of the public often completely abandon all common sense when walking through those gates. I mean, you can't get more stupid than opening the door of your vehicle and dangling a child out of it in the drive through lion enclosure....
