They wont, big cats and exotic animals are given special cases in regards to aggression against people. Even in accidents the zoo will get in trouble before the cats do.Fappy said:Well that sucks. Hopefully they don't have to put the tigers down because of that guy's poor decision. I can only imagine what was going through the staffs' minds when they found him.
They wont, at the zoo where I used to work a handler got killed by a tiger while feeding them from outside their cage. The zoo was sued for negilence and the tiger got a bigger enclosure. It's not like with dogs, everybody knows that tigers are dangerous predators, the only people who will suffer further from this is the zoo itself.Raggedstar said:The tiger might be put down? That's interesting, because there have been cases here (years ago) where people have broken into or reached into the wolf exhibit at the Toronto Zoo and got attacked. I don't recall any of the wolves being put down, though then again wolves aren't among the largest of the land carnivores and have a natural fear of people. It was years ago, so I can't remember what happened.
I'm just going to take a wild stab in the dark here but I have a feeling the keepers have always felt a group of 1000lb siberian tigers were always a potential threat.Raven said:It is quite possible the tigers will have to be put down as a result. QFMFT. And kudos to you, sir/madam, for quoting one the best social critics of all time.Starik20X6 said:Reminds me of a quote from the late great Bill Hicks:

Here's an even more frightening question:Lumber Barber said:Are you serious? The guy climbs over safety fences, into the tiger's den, and they blame the tigers?Raven said:As someone who has worked as a zookeeper, this obviously hits quite close to home. Do they also put down horses when you sneak up behind them and get kicked?
No-one is blaming the tigers but the question will always have to be asked. There aren't too many cases of animals being put down as a result of an attack but if say this had occurred whilst the park was open and the keepers were around, they would have almost certainly been shot dead in order to protect the human. Same if the animals escaped.Lumber Barber said:Are you serious? I wouldn't rule out stupidity either. Its a fairly common source of bemusement among zookeepers on how members of the public often completely abandon all common sense when walking through those gates. I mean, you can't get more stupid than opening the door of your vehicle and dangling a child out of it in the drive through lion enclosure....Gottesstrafe said:Either a suicide attempt or an act of sheer stupidity. Never underestimate stupidity. I live about 15 minutes from a blowhole overlooking rough seas and sharp rocks and you always hear about some stupid tourist who thinks playing around it during high tide and strong winds is a good idea. Even after walking past the many warning signs to the contrary, someone tries straddling the thing and gets thrown up into the air and dragged down through the sea caves to their death. And then their family/friends act so shocked and surprised on the evening news, despite the fact the someone took the time to write "Boneyard Reef" on a warning sign with a tally mark underneath.
