I never really got into any Batman stuff growing up, but it's still sad to see someone that iconic to a character go.
Maybe the planets will align and a new baby with the same Joker laugh will be born to replace him.

Many people will remember Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

I'll always remember him as one of the best damn voice actors ever.
i second this, Mark Hamill IS the Joker to me, and while this is indeed sad new, he's been in that role for 20 years give or take, so i understand his wanting to retire from the role

The end of an extraordinary era of voice acting...I like many grew up watching Batman with Hamill as the Joker...his laugh was just...evil...and it is one of the most sadistic laughs I have ever heard...it is sad to seem him retire the character...no one can truly replace him

I just watched the Joker on Young Justice. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't Mark Hamill but they gave him a new spin and the VA did a good job of conveying a decent range without having to modulate his voice that much.

A fine body of work Mr Hamill, we'll miss your roles but you definitely deserve the break.

For the everyday crowd he's a universe-saving space wizard, for geekdom he's the laughing, maniacal Clown Prince of Crime.

Good show sir, good show.

Awww! Why does he have to go? This sucks, I mean....this guy IS the Joker in my eyes (Ledger was good, but he ain't got shit on Hammill).

It seems that the laughter has indeed died today...-plays funeral music on a kazoo-

It sucks, but c'mon, listen to the guy in Arkham City. He can't keep that laughter up.

We'll miss the guy; he made the Joker.

That sucks and who ever comes after him is going to have some rather large shoes to fill. Sure I was upset when I first found out that Luke Skywalker was the Joker but after a while, I appreciate him as a voice actor. That is amazing range there.

This is rather old news.

Mark Hamill stated a long time ago that after Arkham City, he would no longer be the infamous )and probably best) voice of the Joker. Although it is kind of a downer that he won't do it anymore, remember that the man is getting rather old. Maybe he's just tired of it. Besides, it's not like his past performances are going anywhere. Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are still there, not to mention the 90's animated cartoon.

Godspeed, Joker Skywalker, you will be missed.

[sub]Besides, his voice as the Watcher in Darksiders was dead on as the Joker. Who's to say he won't return for Darksiders 2?[/sub]

When Arkham City was announced it was also stated it would be Hamill's last performance as the Joker.

/salute to you Hamill.
It was also announced as Kevin Conroy's swan song as the voice of Batman. The end of an era of awesomeness.

He is the Mel Blanc of the modern age. And I mean that seriously. I don't know of any other voice actor with such a range of voices, except for Mel Blanc himself.
And Billy West.
Rob Paulsen and Cam Clarke

ok, I guess Rob Paulsen doesn't have.. a range of voices.

I just really like his voice

I wonder why Christian Bale didn't do the voice of Batman as he's much better. He did after all do the voice of the ps2 batman game which wasn't as critically acclaimed.

Well, he was an awesome Joker, but every Clown Prince has to hang up the purple jacket sometime.

Those will be some mighty big clown shoes to fill, though...

Woah woah woah woah. Luke Skywalker was the voice actor for a criminal clown? Now I have heard everything. I wonder if the joker ever tried to use the force.

Seriously, I know him too well as luke skywalker. I can't imagine him as anything else.

That sucks. I just hope that they don't even think about hiring the dude who did the voice of Joker in Batman vs Dracula... He sounded like a big black dude instead of a skinny, crazy white dude.
That was Kevin Michael Richardson, the Joker from the series The Batman, which was honestly kind of underrated. And the Joker from that series may not have been as good a Hamill's (Ledger being the only one generally agreed to even be close), he was still ok.
