Search bar approved.

When i finished the suicide mission in ME2, i couldn't help thinking what little details could have saved the different crew members aboard in the mission.

I myself lost Thane, Zaeed and Mordin (Thane in the shafts, Zaeed as 2nd squad leader, and Mordin at, apparently, random).

So, who did you guys lose on your mission, if any at all?

Most of the time, I've lost nobody. But this last play through, Mordin just dropped dead off screen, and I've no idea why! I suspect its because I choose a few Renegade opinions during the speeches...

Don't worry, you won't be the last

-Sighs-

I lost Grunt, and have no plans on replaying it just to get him alive.

Yeah... to be honest, I've never found the search bar to be very reliable. I wish the Escapist would fix it :|

And that. And the other, older ones. Search bar disapproves!

Samara was carried off by the deadly bee weapon in my first playthrough. I was pissed off since I always used her for biotic support in my squad.

Second playthrough nobody died. I thought Tali might because I lost her loyalty, but fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) nothing bad happened to her.

Their loyalty, your ship's upgrades and your leader selections make your crew members live/die.

And in the shaft, I assume you didn't reach each of the 8 control panels in time...?

First time I lost my tech dude because, apparently, Jacob doesn't qualify as squad leader (Second try says Garrus does) and that's the only person I lost the first time. Loaded my save and did it right; there was no way these motherless fucks were going to kill anyone under my protection. :p
I lost Thane when the doors were closing after he escaped the vents... poor guy got a slug to the face.

Zaeed I lost when he was shot in the gut after the 2nd fire team selection, and Mordin (I assume) for some of the Renegade points I built up (though I was full Paragon). He was killed off-screen.

I've used both and neither seemed to produce results unless you already had the exact title of the thread. And this isn't my thread, btw, not trying to confuse ya ;)

I lost Legion (Dang Seeker Swarms mother...), Tali (Shot in the face with a missile) and then Miranda and Jacob too, I think. I hate Miranda and Jacob. Humans are boring. :/

First playthrough (male Shepard), I lost Thane when I made him do the suicide mission. Unfortunately it came down to tech skills rather than infilration. Knew I should have picked Legion... He just seemed like a too valuable ally (being pretty much your only way to negotiate with the Geth) to sacrifice to what had "suicide mission" written all over it, while Thane seemed both an adequate guy to send crawling through ducts and already dying if it were indeed a suicide.
Felt pretty bad when he died, knowing that I practically sacrificed him so that I'd have a better change against the Reapers in ME3 (don't know if it will matter whether Legion survived or not, but it still seems logical).
(Could a character that isn't the best choice still survive if you opened those vents fast enough? Shepard was a sniper so Thane took some damage because I wasn't moving so fast.)

I also lost all the Cerberus crewmen except the doc... Felt pretty bad about that too, though I did not realize it actually mattered how fast you entered Omega 4. Darn games suddenly starting to enforce common sense.

Didn't lose anyone else, even though Miranda wasn't loyal (I did do my best to keep her out of harms way though).

The second playthrough (with female Shepard) I saved everyone... Well, had to cheat, since Samara got shot, which was kind of cheating, but I knowingly made a few less than ideal choices, including putting her in charge of the other team the second time you split up (it's stll pretty weird that's supposed to be bad choice, since the game pretty much tells you that you made a perfect choice if put her in charge the first time your crew spilts up), just for the sake for being different from the previous save, so I gave myself the permission to do that.

I had everyone but one character loyal both playthroughs, which must be why I had so little losses. I might have actually had also maxed out levels and every character with the best "specialist" rank, if those matter.

Ive done a bit of research into this and I think this is more or less how the decision making should be done to keep everyone alive:

-Squad leader HAS to be Miranda or Garrus.
-Best bet with tech specialist is Legion or Tali (anyone else has a good chance of getting shot).
-Escorting the crew to the Normandy I think can be anyone, so long as they're loyal to you.
-Biotic specialist needs to be one of the characters who has the "adept" class. I know Samara works, and I'm pretty sure Jack does too.
-I'm pretty sure both people you take with you for the final fight have to be loyal for them to survive.

One last thing: as far as I know your Paragon/Renegade rating doesn't affect the final mission, though just about everything (including all of the above) is massively based on each characters loyalty. So, for example, if you put a loyal Garrus in charge of the strike team all of them should live, if he isn't loyal then there's a fair chance he or one of the others will die.

Hope this helps!
