Here is a link the the IGN review; they gave it a 9.6.

http://pc.ign.com/articles/106/1063044p1.html

I read on the official ME2 forums that PC Gamer gave it a 90. So you'll have to judge for yourself.

Garrus is back as a full squadmate again, that any good? ;P
He is?! YAH! I heard he was making an appearance, but I didn't hear as a squadmate... But before I go into any major nerdgasms, can you give me proof? I don't want to get my spaz-tastic hopes up...
I can confirm that for you.

SQUEEEE!!!!!!!!!

Okay, sorry. That was my fanboyish squeal of unrelenting joy. I do that sometimes...

Anyway, it won't be a Halo or CoD killer, because the lasting appeal for those games is in the multiplayer, which Mass Effect does not have in the first place.

However, I fully expect it to be one of the greatest science fiction stories ever told. The first one was up there: not quite in the top list, but it was pretty high. I expect this one to be the Star Wars of video games, in terms of telling an amazing sci-fi story. Though I'm pretty sure it won't inspire as many copy-cats, since a game of this scale is freaking hard to make.

I'm gonna be honest and say that the only thing about ME1 I didn't like was the planetary exploration. The Mako was all right, but the non-plot related planets were drab. I loved the combat, the characters, the story, and the voice-acting. I had no issues with the inventory system. Its my #2 game of all time, behind Ocarina of Time. I didn't like GoW, don't like first-person shooters, but I love the combat in Mass Effect.
Call me a fanboy, I guess?

Well that's what everyone is going to say when you have cover oriented 3rd person action. It's definitely not GoW though, I'm pretty sure GoW didn't have Biotics, hacks, or cryo ammo, or the Vanguard rush, that thing just looks sweet.
Its not just third person and cover oriented... The shooting just looks... exactly like GoW shooting. I understand that impression melts away slightly as soon as you use your psychic shit to blast someone into the air. But the "improvements" to the combat system could be paraphrased to "main-streaming."

The third mass effect might be the game of our generation; but ME2 will suffer from being an inbetween game.

I believe that Halo 2/3, and Half-life 2 are the games of our generation.

OMG game of the generation.. its not even out yet! Wait until you see/play the actual game to make your opinion.

Of course it looks cool in the trailer.. everything looks cool and epic in a trailer.

Personally, i didnt like the first game that much, it had its qualities (as long as you stick to the main questline), but it was deeply flawed and empty as soon as you started wandering around. What i like the most in the game was the way the weapons behaved in combat... a good and effective mix of RPG/FPS, if a bit bland one you got too strong.

I thought ME1 was one of the best games I played. Sure, it had a few flaws. But it was still fun to play and had tons of potential. I just hope that my high expectations don't ruin my view of ME2.

Anyway the things I hope are fixed:
*More compelling backstory on the characters in your squad. (because everyone was just so goddamned bland in ME1)
*A more diverse set of weapons( though I think Bioware has that covered)
*A more compelling backstory of Sheperd him/herself
*A longer storyline(It only takes like 10 hours to go straight through the story missions, which is short even for Bioware games)
*A storyline that surprises you(because who was really surprised that Saren wasn't the main bad guy)
and
*Better difficulty settings (I don't know about you, but I thought casual was way too easy and normal was way too hard, or maybe I just suck...)

Things I know that Bioware's fixed:
*Combat
*fps
*Customizing the look of your character's armor (HELL YES!!!)

Awaiting in anticipation for my pre-ordered game.

I wasn't the least bit excited about ME2 until the new commercials that are like interviews with the characters have been creeping up left and right.

I might be shallow just becauase they looked like fucking REAL PEOPLE but I'm yet again, I'm not usually one that goes for the:

Good graphics = good game

As much as I liked some aspects of the original Mass Effect, I do wish their editors would cut out the trivial stuff (hacking mini-games, sex scenes, planets that have nothing to offer, easy puzzles, fetch quests) and just let me blow up aliens, interact with the characters, move through the story, and blow up more stuff.

One thing I couldn't stand was these puzzles in the main quest that asked you to find things or solve certain riddles. Just let me blow more aliens away; isn't that why they gave me all these guns and abilities? Leave the puzzles to the Zeldas.

Mass Effect 2 the definitive game of our generation? I seriously doubt that.

Since there is a little game coming up... what was it? God or good ofsomething (coughWcoughAoughR)

THREAD UPDATE:

Well... the game is out guys. We've all played it.

So... is it as good as you hoped?

Personally my view is yes, it really lived up to the hype and then some.

Pretty much everything in your list has been fixed... all in the first hour of play.

I thought the first gamne was fine on normal but like every Bioware game, it had some crazy difficulty spikes that came from nowhere.

Ten hours into the game and I couldn't disagree more... it's stunning.
