"What do you mean besides a card shark? Thats all I've ever done!" Replied Ocara with a smile but after a few seconds he realised that a real answer would've been preferred.

"Well being a Turian I used to be a military man. That didn't work out... Anyway, after that it was off to Omega to become a merc, not the most interesting of tales right? What about yourself"

"Well I've been in the military for most of my life, ever since I was 15. Never regretted most of it, made great friends, saw amazing places, worked for a great cause; providing peace and stability to trillions of people, and so on. I worked mainly in Cabals being a Biotic, and most of my missions revolved around counter-terrorism, but I go arround to other things. Anyways eventually I decided it was time for a change, I quit the army, decided to see more of the galaxy. Then I touch down in Illium, had bit of fun there before getting the Blood Pack's attention, turns out some of them where still angy about an officer I had killed way back when, cue me running to Omega in search of a guy named Archangel, I don't find him fall in with Aria for protection, the Quarian and the Human come to Afterlife, morals get the better of me, I'm out of a job, Verahl gives me a job, I play Salarian speed jack, and we're up to date."

"I never got a chance to be in the military proper" said Ocara, his voice and overall posture becoming grim.

"Didn't get outta training, I had a bright future aswell. An instructor even told me he'd put me forward for the Spectre testing once I'd finished, but it just wasn't to be"

He looked up from his plate, his normal demeanour coming back and his smile returning.

"I never liked the uniforms anyways"

" I can't tell if I should feel sorry for you two or be envious, on the one hand I doubt I wouldn't be who I am today without the military. But on the other hand, who am I is currently on the run from the Blood Pack, as a result of a mission they sent me on, and a leak that was their fault. Then again can't say it would be wise of me to judge you anyway." He took another bite as he finished and then looked back up.

" So Santius, where did you grow up them?"

" I think I remembered hearing something about it way back when, but after that nothing ever again, didn't think anything of it. What was it exactly? Must have been different to get the politicians to hide it."

"Right, I remember it all now the Citedel said it was proof they were need to ensure to co-prosperity of races, but your right, if they took the time to lock up and take you out room by room then that definetly doesn't sound like any race riot I've seen. I've always been both amazed and horrified by peoples abilities to carry out such massacres in mass groups, without questioning their actions until it's long been to late. It seems like the more people there are the less likely that one person will be willing to speak out and stop it." Yossar stopped himself, before changing the subject, " But I'm rambling here, I can't imagine this is the most pleasent thing for you to talk about."

Verahl slid the empty plate away from his spot and wiped the corners of his mouth with a napkin. He rubbed his eyes gor a moment and sat still for a while longer before finally getting up.

"I'm tired and it's been a long day. Raven come yo my room when you're done. The rest of you keep it quiet. A quick announcement as well. The Mayli incident is currently being looked into by Aria's forces. We'll hopefully have her soon. Now goodnight."

He walked slowly back to his room, each step forced as he could hardly stay awake any longer.

Just so you know, have been busy hanging out with friends since I have my house to myself. My posting might still be low for a couple more days.

Parkour is amazing at midnight though. Night.

Raven worked through his second plate of food, enjoying each and every bite after a long and weary day. Placing his utensils down and wiping his mouth, he rose from the table and made his way to Ver's room. Pausing on the threshold, he briefly thought I wonder what Bossman wants. Only one way to find out. "You wanted to see me boss?"

Ocara set his plate down and nodded to Verhal as he left, his plan would have to go unheeded for the moment. He fetched his rifle and brought it to the coffee table once more, clearing a small space of used food containers before setting it down and starting to tinker with it.

He had little else to do, he could play cards with the others of course but the discussion of the past had stirred up some memories for him and he wanted to be alone, or atleast with as few people as possible.

That said he wouldn't mind talking to Esten, the Salarian was ok and he'd like to discuss marksmanship with a fellow sniper for a change, instead of a "Why do that when you can do it up close" 'discussion' he was used to these days.

Once his rifle was disassembled and the pieces lay before him, arranged in some kind of organised chaos, the order of which only apparent to Ocara, he looked up at Esten, who was sitting on the opposite side of the table to him.

"So tell me, what was life like in the STG?"

Verahl:

"Alright, I'm not going to sugar coat this or make it easy like I normally do. We're in deep. We're in deeper then we've been before with people who pose a lot bigger of a threat. Aria's got me working as a fucking dog for her by molding a bunch of new recruits. She's assembled the worst of the worst though and left it to me. I know two of them have already been responsible for 'friendly' fire incidents and another is a well known butcher amongst Omega's lower wards. She's essentially going to have either me or them breaking, and she still comes out on top no matter what."

He paused as he pulled the chair to his desk out. He sat down and slowly brought his arms onto it to rest. He was about to start up again before stopping himself and reaching for a bottle sitting at the corner of the table. He grabbed the bottle and two of the glasses sitting in front of it and poured out part of its content. Each glass was now filled with a dark liquid that was hard to tell if it was more red or more purple. The drink's strength was apparent though, even from a distance, as the stench of alcohol suddenly filled the room. Verahl pushed one of the glasses across the table towards Raven, before taking a sip from his and continuing his briefing.

"The reason she's doing this however, is because she wants to be able to use them as a strike team for however long they'll last. People go missing often around Aria, even when they try to go into hiding. Our old friend Mayli is now on her list. She was the price we agreed upon. In exchange for her location, she wants me to have the team I'm making come to kill her. Once this is done, we'll be free from her service, except for Sal. She's holding Sal's services to a later, undisclosed date. Now, I'll hopefully be able to return here nightly, but if not there are a few matters I want to discuss."

Verahl stopped again to pour himself another glass of the drink. The bottle's label could now clearly be read by Raven. It was a strong wine made by Hanar brewers. The bottle would have cost a small fortune, and wouldn't be something that could have been bought at a local bar.

"Before, I would normally entrust duties such as this to Lux. Recently however, he has proved himself rather rash, and is for now being suspended from being this company's alternate commander. Essentially what I mean, is at the moment, the only one holding a higher rank then you in this company is me. You've been with me since near the start of this company Raven, don't let me down. In the meantime however, that means you also have a few other duties. Mostly though, you're in charge of the place when I am gone. Anything happens during this, it's your responsibility. There are a few things I want done before my return tomorrow however. First, I want Dray to pick up whatever he needs to cook us a nice meal. Let him leave tomorrow, but make sure he's got someone to accompany him. I don't want him wandering the streets of Omega alone. Second, I want you to bring a few people with you and scout our old headquarters. Keep your distance, and don't use the Gauntlet. I just want to be sure it's still standing. Finally, there's a duty I've been putting off to a later date, but I feel I can't do it any longer."

He quickly shot back the rest of his drink before getting up from the desk and moving towards the window. He stood to the sides of one of the drawn curtains and pulled it away and gazed out into the depths of the station.

"Just know I wanted to have their memory kept better then this. We can't hold onto them any longer though. We have to let them go. I would have liked a proper ceremony for each of them, but it won't do us any good any longer. There's an envelope on my desk. Inside is a card that will say where to go. Take it once we're done here. It's for a certain type of... shipping... service located here on Omega. Here, unclaimed dead only take up space. There are no proper cemeteries on this station either. Only plaques and memorials, normally a few in each district, where names might be inscribed. I want to have Zar sent back home to her family. The location I want her sent to is on the back of the card. There is also a letter from me to the family in there. Make sure it is sent with her. I already notified them of these events so they know to expect her. But..."

He had to stop himself. He took a few breathes as he tried to collect himself. He was starting to lose control, and he would not lose himself in front of the company, even if it was now only Raven.

"Xandus on the other hand... I don't know where his family is. I don't know what colony he was even from. I will arrange for a memorial to hold his name later, but I want you to dispose of him for now. A place for... disposal... is also inside the envelope. Have them take his body. They'll take it from there. Keep his armor though. I'd prefer to not let that go."

He stood facing the window still. He wouldn't let Raven see his face when he was in this state. His jaw lightly trembled as each of his eyes were now barely holding back tears he would not let himself shed.

"The money for these services will be transferred to your account. There's nothing more for me to say. You can rejoin the others now."

Esten:

Esten broke from his trance at Ocara's question. He stared blankly at the Turian for a minute before responding. His voice sounded a bit more bitter then earlier. In truth, he was insulted by Ocara's frankness and bluntness about a matter of such importance to him.

"It is not something that can be easily summed up with words and phrases that will never be able to harness the true meaning of my time spent with it. It is not something that can be merely described in passing or bored conversation. It is a life, and one you must be utterly devoted to. Only the strongest survive in it, and only the bravest thrive in it."

Raven downed the last of the delicious liquor before nodding to Ver. "Don't worry about it Ver. I'll make sure that everything gets done while you are away making sure we can find Mayli. Good luck Ver," he said as he walked out of his room. So I'm second in command then. I'll make sure that everything get's done, even if it kills me. Walking back into the main room, he nodded to everyone before beginning to formulate a plan for tomorrow...

Ocara noticed the annoyance Esten displayed and scolded himself for being so direct.

"I wish I had something like that in my life, for a while it was the military and the slim possibility of the Spectres but it wasn't to be. I'm envious, you had something to really devote yourself too and be passionate about, I admire that... Not that I don't like it here of course"

The last part he emphasised, didn't want to inadvertently piss off any more company members. Damn, he sure was a conversational clutz when he had been drinking.

" As the old saying goes, when one door closes another opens. Just because you never got to be in the military or Spectres doesn't mean you can't still find something worthwhile to do with your life."

"No. There really isn't much more good one can be doing then serving their respective military. It's one of the only ways you can properly give back to the society that raised you, and the only way you can do it honorably."

Esten rolled his neck and stretched his arms slightly as he came to sit upright on the couch.

"After all, what's more worthwhile? Working with a few other mercs on Omega trying to earn your fortune? Or taking out a terrorist cell ready to take out colonies?"
