Having found Lexi and ushered her into his arms to comfort her (though she seemed to be fine), he turned to see Esten standing in the midst of the carnage, fixing him with an evil look, a look that made Ocara want to disappear again.
Something told him that the next couple of hours were going to suck..
But instead of disappearing, he spoke, involuntarily clutching Lexi slightly tighter to him as he spoke.
His hand shot out, and slapped Ocara across the face. He started to take in heavy breathes, as his face became wrinkled, showing the true extent of his anger.
"What the hell was that?" he asked, his voice holding a bitter disdain.
Ocara began to speak, but Esten cut him off again.
"It was unacceptable. I wouldn't have even expected that from a Krogan," it was the first time Ocara had ever heard Esten yell. "Do you have even the slightest idea of what you've caused? Did you even once think for a moment what damning reprocussions you could bring on us?!"
His breathing was audible, and his hands now formed fists. He stared silently at Ocara, before closing his eyes for a moment and stopping his breath. When he opened them again it was controlled, but his fist was still held tight.
"Back to the base," he said as he turned towards the door. "Now."
Ocara was torn for a moment, but he could see that he would not win either an argument with Esten or another fire-fight, that bullet from the last one was still digging into his stomach and seriously smarting.
"I'll call" he said to Lexi, before receiving a peck on the cheek and departing after Esten.
Yossar face didn't change in response, he kept the same air of proffesionalism.
"The 4-6 gang is none of our concern, as long as they don't invade our district we see no reason to risk our resources." He was lying of course but he hid it completely, thanks to an unmoving face and a pair of unblinking eyes.
All three of them walked back to the base in silence, Ocara having retrieved Lexi after a hissed instruction from Esten, while she would not be in danger if she was left behind, he would be if he tried to enter her bar again and they would most likely need the information that she had, as soon as possible.
He held her closely, deriving some comfort from her proximity, yet still dreading their arrival back at base and Verhal's almost inevitable fury.
Sorry for the double post, but I cant see my message to edit it and I need to leave now. Everybody feel free to react to Ocara and co coming returning to base, whoever wants to warp them back to base and comment can do so freely.
Yossar left the Turian there to make sense of what he had said, he would probably be angry as hell, but he really didn't care what one person thought. He walked up to his room and began messing with his omni-tool, watching old videos he kept on it, dead friends, his ex-wife, his two daughters, all reminders of a happier time when men like the 4-6 would make his blood boil and make him want to scream for holy wrath to come down on their heads. Watching them helped him remember he had tried to be a decent person at one point, and some how that gave him some comfort. Hours past, Ocara left without giving much of a reason, then Esten disappeared, presumebly stalking after Ocara to confirm some suspicion. In a few more hours all three of them would return, Esten with a face that could sour ryncol if that was possible, and Ocara with a girl in his arms, not just any kind of girl but a human one. That alone was worthy enough to make Yossar rise from his position on couch where he had been reading a novel.
"Well Ocara, who's this? A girl? and a human at that? What have you been up to?" Yossar asked, some genuine interest in his voice.
If Turian's could blush, then Ocara was sure he would be bright crimson by now, however that was not the case, instead he was just incredibly tense. He looked up at Yossar, hoping that his gaze and posture would give the answers he was not going to give verbally.
"This is...Um... Lexi and she ha-"
Ocara was interrupted by a sharp stabbing pain in his gut and looked down to see a steady trickle of blue blood escaping from the wound he had gotten in the bar skirmish, still he could count himself lucky that he didn't end up like his two sparring partners.
After a moment, Ocara had collected himself sufficiently and looked up to address Yossar once more.
Basara smirked and gave a wolf whistle. "Well, Ocara, I sure didn't see you as the cross-species kind of guy." He shrugged. "Ah well, just goes to show you can't judge someone from first appearances." He gave a good natured grin before hearing what Ocara said. "Oh? Then let's hear it. Also, I'm not sure if you've noticed by now, but you're bleeding, Ocara." He said offhandedly.
Meer was in the corner of the room cleaning his rifle for the third time that day. It had become painfully obvious that he disagreed with Verahl's decision not to take out 4-6.
"Oh, great." He remarked bitterly. "Sure, let's hear the story of how another damn one of our group went out and had the fight of their life, while I'm stuck here cleaning weapons!" He threw his rifle at the wall, though it clacked off harmlessly. If there was one redeeming quality of Meer, he knew how to put together weapons. He stood up and paced a bit.
"I don't know what's running through the boss' head, but I don't like it. If we don't kill a rival gang, they're going to try and kill us later. Unless we ally with them, but I doubt Verahl's that stupid. It's how things work on Omega. It doesn't make any sense, might as well just toss our weapons out the window right now, he obviously doesn't want us using them."
By that point, Meer had stopped talking to the others and was ranting purely to vent his own frustrations.
"Meer, after today, we are going to have no choice but to fight 4-6" said Ocara, leaning agains the wall and examining his wound as best as he could without taking off his armour, it was minor, just a scratch really, the round might have nicked a vein, but he was ok and it could wait for now.
"Liz, is Verhal free, we kinda need to see him, like now"
Hey everyone. Sorry for the absence. I finally get some ideas and get my grove back only to be stolen away into the great unknown... Or Quebec, whatever you want to call it. Im also currently working off of a French keyboard and I have no idea where certain keys are, such as the apostraphe.
Anyways, Ill be home tomorrow, so we should be back onto our normal track by then.
Verahl:
As if cued by the gods, the doors to Verahl`s office opened, and out he stormed. Esten stood back, nodded, and indicated towards Ocara and Lexi. He had sent a message ahead to Verahl, telling him what had happened at the bar, and who they were bringing back. Verahl`s glare fell upon the two standing in the lobby.
"My office, NOW," he barked at Ocara, pointing at him to get in there immediatly. "You stay here!"
Lexi had started to follow Ocara, but was quickly stopped by Verahl. What Ocara had done was beyond stupid. What he had started was something none of them had prepared for.
In only moments, Ocara was sitting alone in Verahl`s office. Verahl stood behind his desk, his back turned, as he tried to get a hold of himself.
"Were you even fucking THINKING?!" he yelled. Obviously his attempts to control himself were falling short. "I assume you`re not stupid, so I`d like to think you would be able to grasp the consequences of your actions, but then again, I would have also thought that you wouldn`t have marched straight into 4-6 territory and started a shoot out in one of their bars, leaving two of their members dead, and you as well had Esten not forseen this!"
His fists were now slammed into the desk, as he leaned over it and screamed at Ocara. He now stood silently over him, silently daring him to attempt to defend his actions.
"I didn't know it was 4-6 turf" replied Ocara, his voice flat and emotionless, a defeated sounding monotone.
He had defaulted back to a base, military personality, devoid of any signs of emotion. He had needed it during his tough years in the Turian military and it had served him well, hiding whatever feelings he would have otherwise shown, creating perceived distance between him and the situation, because this was not Ocara, no, this was just a military Turian, responding how he had been trained to respond.
He didn't even know why he was replying though, he knew that what he had done was monumentally stupid, even if he had done it inadvertently.
"I was trying to gather some information, I didn't anticipate 4-6 to have moved in so soon"
"You didn't know it was 4-6 turf?" Verahl said coldly before bursting into an even more furious tone. "Don't you fucking LIE to me Ocara! You go there looking for information, but didn't know it was 4-6 territory?! Where did you think it was then?!"
Verahl was desending further from his cold proffessional self, and now being ruled by emotion and impulse. But what Ocara had done was something that was so unexpected, and held so much consequence that it was causing Verahl to start to lose control of himself.
"I knew that 4-6 turf was near and I knew they were moving in, but I didn't know they were moving in so quickly" replied Ocara, keeping up his cool façade barely, Verhal's rage chipping away at his resolve bit by bit. It was true, when he had visited just yesterday the bar had been full of 'aliens', all regular patrons of the bar, how was he supposed to know that it could change so quickly in a day?
Yossar looked around, all the alien refuges where eyeing Lexi very suspiciously, some of them with that special kind of anger that guaranteed a violent out burst.
"Listen it's not safe for a human to be here, we have to get you some where else." He grabbed her by the arm and began leading her to the second floor, where the refugee's weren't allowed to go, he took her to the storage room and finally let go of her.
"Sorry, but those people back there were all refuges, kick out of their homes because of the 4-6, they're not exactly human lovers at the moment, and if they think you're involved with the 4-6 they'll probably kill you. Do you understand?"
