"Elixir, same as mine, either we gout out place, or they were all taught to say the same lie, which I doubt considering how raw these guys are." Yossar glanced back.
" Oh Verahl, I got mine to talk on the promise he'd get to live, can we go through with that?" Yossar asked.
"Esten, take our prisoners onto the Gauntlet. Karnak, is yours still---," before Verahl could finish, Karnak was already shaking his head.
"Unless we're planning on carrying him, I suggest leaving him."
Verahl nodded, as Esten went off to round up the two prisoners. He then waited as everyone started to assemble in the Common Room.
"I'm going to keep this short. We know where they are. We give them anymore time, and they'll use it to either prepare a defence, or mount an offence," he paused, scanning their faces quickly. "We go in tonight. Five minutes until take off, take whatever you need now."
As the others left, he walked over to Santius. He was still sitting in the corner with Sal, his wounds barely given the attention they needed.
I can't be another man down on this.
He quickly went up to his office, before returning with a white and green plastic box. He opened it in front of Santius, and pulled out a small syringe from it.
"After this, I swear we'll find someone to fix you, but right now Santius, I need you with us," he said as he handed the syringe over to him. "This is only a temporary fix, and it will only kill the pain for maybe an hour tops. Take it during the flight."
He then stood up, headed towards his office. It was time to pick through what he'd be needing for the evening.
"If I had the option, I would have prefered to leave you behind. But we are not given that luxury at the moment. We are going up against a force larger then our own. The Company has shrunk by one already, another loss can not be afforded at the moment."
He shook his head. He didn't like forcing a wounded man into combat, but at this point, it was needed.
"So I ask you, please Santius. Do what is asked of you. I promise, if we come out in one piece, that you won't be called upon for some time."
Yossar went back to the barracks, he peaked his head inside, "Basara, tie him back up and get him one the Gauntlet."
As Basara went about re-bininding Izzy, Izzy began to yell, "You bastard I helped you! You said I could go! You'll-"
Izzy's rant was interrupted when Basara got the gag on him again, allowing Yossar to respond, " I said you could live if you cooperate, we're not done, so we still need you're cooperation, play nice and we'll let you walk away when this is all over." Yossar honestly wanted to let Izzy go, he seemed like a decent enough person, just mixed up in the hysteria and commotion the 4-6 caused. If Izzy really had believe the 4-6's dogma he would have never had talked at all, but it was obvious he was just a directionless youth, like there were so many of in Omega, like so many Yossar had killed without giving a shit. Yossar sighed, not giving a shit, he once thought that meant he was brve but know he knew it meant the exact opposite, it meant he was too afraid to look at his acitons. On the whole the whole idea of proffessional soldeiering seemed cowardly too him, to kill a man for money had to be the most craven action a person could take. Bakers, on the other hand, bakers had real balls.
He turned away and to his things, getting them ready for the attack.
Raven boarded the Gauntlet with the rest of the team, happy they were going to take the fight to the 4-6. When all is said and done I doubt they'll have suffered enough for the things they have cause but it'll be a damn good start. Looking over at Santius's wounds and thinking of Ocara's abscence, he geared himself up for the war they were about to reenter.
Yossar finished finding all his equipment and boarded the Gauntlet. He took a seat opposite Raven and began waiting. I can't imagine a single situation when waiting is the best part. he mused to himself as he waited.
Sal sat silently on the Guantlet typing away on her Omni-tool. She had checked her shields over and over again, but it was something that calmed her nerves. Her thoughts wandered to Ocara. Why had he left, and where had he gone? Surly it couldn't have been because of his mistake, she had done worse by going to the afterlife. Then another thought struck her, Crap I still owe Arai. She said resting her head in her hand. She shook her head, No! This isn't the time to think of that. Mission first, debts later.
Thayna boarded the Gauntlet and took the nearest available seat. She'd checked her equipment again and again and was certain none of it would fail her. She thought about what the 4-6 had done, and knew they had what Aegis was about to deal out coming. I wouldn't have cared what they did if they'd kept to themselves. But everyone in the Terminus knows, or should know, that you don't screw with anyone else unless you're ready for retaliation.
Basara sighed as he sat down next to Thayna. He leaned over, his long arms brushing the floor. A thought occured to him as he checked his ammo. Still only darts. "Hey, Verahl, shoot to kill?" He asked. He thought he knew the answer, and started to change to bullets, but still, you never knew.
Verahl looked over the large locker he kept in the corner of his office. It was the one he used to hold his weapons, modifications, and armour attachments. He ran his finger across the barrel of his Revenant, still proud of it and what he had done to obtain it. He pulled it from its spot, and made sure it was secure against his back. It felt right having it on him, but even more so when it was resting in his hands. He thought about what they?d be up against again, the mission would be mostly CQB fighting. Close quarters, with potentially several combatants made him rule out his sniper. Instead he picked up his Scimitar, and secured it as well. He paused for a moment, wondering if would have been all, before he looked to the side, and remembered on of his favourite pieces. He lifted his Firestorm and smiled. The last time he had used it was to fry a Krogan that had killed Xandus. He secured it as well, and turned to the attachments. He didn?t need to bother with the weapon modifications, each was tuned to his personal preference, and he doubted he needed to deviate from them for this mission. Instead he glanced over the different bits he?d use for his armour, determining which would be best. In the end, he swapped only a few parts, to increase the strength of the shields. It added a bit more weight to his suit, but he knew it?d probably be best to use them. He closed the locker, and started to make his way from his office. He paused for a moment, as his eyes fell upon the different pieces of armour he had mounted to the wall. To the side, lay a single gauntlet, a grim reminder of Zachariah. Even though he had only been in the company for a few weeks when it started, his death was still the first for them. Beside it lay the restored chest piece Xandus used to wear. His death still bothered Verahl. Xandus was a friend to Verahl, he had been one of the founding members of the company. Finally, he passed by the old pieces of armour, to a small display he had nearby. It only showed a single picture, one that had been taken of Zar. She was wearing her old fur coat in it, as she stood near one of the market stores nearby. Verahl wasn?t sure who had taken it, it had either had to have been Dray of Fiona.
Each of these was a symbol to Verahl, to remind him of how he always needed to do better. He had had people die under him before, but things had changed for him. Now he cared for those under him, and was always trying to keep them with them for the longest he could. He knew it was the nature of their work, but it was still a blow to him every time he saw one of them come back wounded or worse. His mind started to fall to Ocara, wondering if it what he had done was truly worth the punishment.
You?ve been staring at those damn tokens for far to long Verahl, it?s time to take some justice.
He pulled on his armour a final time, making sure it was tight to his chest, before he headed out into the lobby. He saw many of Aegis?s members passing him on their way to the Gauntlet. He walked down the stairs to find Esten and Karnak coming up last.
?I need you two to help me with something.?
Only a couple extra minutes passed as everyone else waited in the Gauntlet. When Verahl, Karnak, and Esten finally boarded, each were carrying a few helmets and goggles that had been left behind in the armoury.
?Hey Verahl, shoot to kill??
?As many as you can,? he said as he continued past to the front of the ship. He rested the ones he was carrying on the seat beside him, before facing the company.
?Each of you is going to need your helmet for this,? he said as Karnak and Esten started to hand them out to their appropriate owners. ?I?ll assume that these all have some form of low light vision built into their visors. You will each need this for tonight.?
He paused, watching as the remainder of the helmets were distributed before continueing.
?Now, the plan is simple, but damn risky. We?re plunging straight into the heart of 4-6 territory, of 4-6 command, in order to try and take them out. We?re going to be outnumbered, and outgunned, on turf that they own. Now, if we?re even going to have a hope of pulling this off, we?re going to need an advantage. In this case, we?re only going to have surprise, and conditions on our side. The rest will be determined by the lot of you. We?re first going to touch down at the opposite end of the block from the 4-6 Club. Most of us are going to be waiting inside the Gauntlet. The first one leaving will be Lux.?
He turned and looked directly at Lux, he needed him to understand how important his success was.
?Now Lux, I need you to find some maintenance access. Once you?re in, you need to identify the lines sending power to this sector. Do that, and then disable them. We?re going to need the power killed for when we go in.?
Lux nodded, as Verahl shifted to face the others in the company.
?The rest of us will wait for this. Once the power is down and the lights are killed, we storm the club. This is why you?re going to need something to deal with the darkness. Once inside though, don?t expect to be able to simply execute the 4-6 as they stumble around blind. Odds are that they?ll have some form of backup power that will at least supply some emergency lights. Once inside, most of you will be heading down towards their personal levels. Be warned, you?ll be facing heavier resistance here as they?ll have probably accessed their armoury by now, and might have found a way to restored power to the building. Once you?ve secured the first level, keep heading down until the entire base is cleared.?
Verahl sat down in his seat. He had been able to obtain most of the details from his prisoner, but he still wasn?t certain how reliable they were. He would only be able to find out once they were in their though.
As the Gauntlet passed through 4-6 territory, Verahl was reminded why he had made a good choice with its model. It was a fairly common one used on Omega. While it was mainly used in the lower, more industrial levels, it still wasn?t rare to find them further up, completing deliveries or doing local shipments. When the company gained control of their district, one of the first things done to the Gauntlet was the removal of its name and company logos from the sides. The new paint seemed to help hide it better in traffic though, leaving it with hardly any identifiable markings, as they finally reached the Elixir.
When the Gauntlet finally touched down, only a few hundred metres away from the Elixir, Lux quickly headed out. He had dawn his helmet, and had had help with painting over the orange markings on his armour with a washable black paint. There was always good reason for keeping a few cans on the Gauntlet. He had been forced to leave all but his shotgun and pistol behind though by Verahl. A Krogan in black armour was enough to raise plenty of suspicion if any of the 4-6 were to spot him. If he were carrying his arsenal as well however, it would likely result in confrontation. Soon enough though, Lux disappeared down one of the alleys nearby to find the entrance he was looking for.
A few minutes passed as the company waited around anxiously for Lux to report in. As time kept sliding by, an unspoken worry fell upon some of the company. What if he had been caught? Or killed? Or spotted? Soon enough though, his voice broke the comms.
?It?s ready Verahl, say the word.?
Verahl didn?t wait a moment before responding. It was time for them to strike.
?Do it Lux.?
Before Verahl could even get all the way through, a blast could be heard from outside the Gauntlet, as a small rumble shook it. Screams of panic could be heard from outside the ship, ones that lay victim to what had suddenly occurred.
?Keep the civilian casualties to a minimum!? Verahl shouted as the doors to the Gauntlet started to open. ?Now let?s get some pay back!?
The doors to the Gauntlet opened, as the company charged out onto the street. It was almost completely pitch black outside. Only a few emergency lights shone from above, while a few flashing ones marked the edges of the main street to help guide those left blind. The company forced their ways through the crowd though, as they all kept heading towards the Elixir?s entrance. The bouncer that had been standing outside earlier had drawn his pistol as the line in front of him had evaporated. Karnak took the opportunity to put him down, as he raised his shotgun and fired a shot into his chest. The bouncer went down instantly. No armour or shields meant he had taken the full force of the blast, more than enough to kill him.
As the others charged into the Elixir, they saw that club had descended into chaos. Panicked dancers were now falling over one another, as they tried to find their way towards the exits. As Verahl scanned through the mobs, he couldn?t see any of the 4-6 members standing in it.
They might not be in their armour, but they might still be around.
Verahl pushed his way through the crowds, almost throwing people out of his way as he raced across the floor to the bar at the opposite end. Beside it was a set of doors, which would lead the company to the gang?s hideout.
Esten was the first to reach it. The door was a larger metal one, which had been designed to be opened with electronics and motors. This left Esten with only one option, attempting to open it manually. He grabbed one of the small, hidden handles by the centre, and tried to pull it to the side. While these doors had been designed to be opened without power, so people were not trapped by them, it was still a feat to accomplish. It took almost all of his strength to push it far enough so that the others could pass by. Karnak helped by grabbing the opposite, and pulling it back as well, so Meer would be able to fit through.
When they finally passed the door, the company was left in an empty hallway with only the doors to the kitchen at the other end. A few lights had still been left on here, but otherwise it was completely devoid. Verahl rapidly scanned the hallway, stunned at what it was lacking.
?Where?s the entrance??
Sorry for how long this took me. It was my last weekend before school started, so I didn't get around to posting earlier. The writer's block didn't help as well. Fortunatly though, this WALL OF TEXT (Yes, I did feel it needed bolding), will hopefully make up for it.
Now, if you excuse me, I need to stick my fingers in my fridge, or else they might overheat.
" Do you think it's going to have a big old neon sign?" Yossar quiped. He had spent a dam lot of his time in the cabal finding where terrorists hid themselves, he knew a trick or two to spotting hidden doors.
"Stand back." He cautioned, he then threw a shockwave at the wall, it course through, cracking the plaster until it came to a point half-way down, suddenly a whole section of the wall in the shape of a door moved, cracking all the plaster in front of it, revealing the hidden door.
"Move out of the way," Lux said as he shoved himself through the company towards the revealed door.
"That door must be almost a full foot thick Lux, you think you can just blast through it?" Karnak asked condescendingly.
"I don't think it can be blown open, I know it," he said as he pulled out what appeared to be a jar full of an odd, brown liquid. "This thing may be thick, but it's also out-dated. I'm sure the designer didn't think about gel-charges at the time he was making this."
He smeared the adhesive all over the front of the door. Once it had a generous amount painted onto it, he stuck the detonator in the centre before taking a step back.
"We might want to move a bit back from this," Lux said as he walked to the other end of the hallway.
Everyone cleared the area around the door immediately, before blasting the charge. When the charge detonated, the hallway felt as though it had been set on fire as a large flash lit up the hall. The heat quickly faded though, as they looked towards the door to see a large hole had been melted through it.
The company headed through the doorway and into the lobby of the complex. Most of the power was still on inside, though. A ruined desk sat in the middle of it, while two stairwells were on the opposite side.
"Lux, you take the Company and head down, clear out all the 4-6. Raven and Esten, we're heading up."
Ocara was disrupted from his screams of pain as his light flickered off, sending him into pitch-blackness. HE let his head fall forwards, feeling the blood and tears fall from his eyes and streak his face. The 4-6 bastards had probably shut off the power to torment him further, to make him feel even more powerless and alone.
Still, he refused to let it work, he would stay strong for as long as he could, 4-6 could do anything to him, but he would NOT crack, he was ready to die.
But, his earlier conclusion that 4-6 had turned off the lights as a form of psycological torture, was instantly abandoned, as the sounds of screams and gunshots filled the air. Could someone be coming to save him? No. Nobody knew he'd been taken and he doubted anyone would care, it was most likely a retaliatory strike from some pissed off xeno faction.
Whoever it was, he now held out hope that he could be saved, that his torment could end.
Raven followed close behind Verahl as they cleared the upper portions of the base, killing any 4-6 they came across. Was it really this easy to catch them by surprise? Did they they could just attack an entire district and get away with like they did nothing? Their leader is either a moron or completely blinded by his beliefs... Pausing momentarily to cut down a group of enemies with his shredder, he followed as Verahl led on into the darkness, aided by the low-light functions of his new helmet.
Thayna stood near the top of the stairs leading down into the bowels of the base. She cradled her Tempest in her arms, ready to fire at a moment's notice. She looked round at the others in the room, the light filters on her helmet automatically compensating for any change in light levels. She stayed silent, waiting for Lux to give the order to move.
Basara slammed his back against the cover and took out his shotgun, switching to Carnage. He grabbed Santius and threw the Turian down next to him so he wouldn't look like swiss cheese in a minute. Basara spoke into the comm. "Yo, Lux. Give the word. I've got Carnage ready, just waiting for these fuckers to get a little closer together so I can wipe out the lot of 'em."
