Granted, it's going to be a while before we see ANYTHING about the Mass Effect movie, if it ever happens, though it's already got us tickled. Will Commander Shepherd be male or female? Better yet, will he/she be renegade or paragon?? At least we know who will play Miranda. What are your thoughts, ME fans?
I'd be willing to bet a significant sum of money that Commander Shepard won't be making an appearance.

I doubt there is any reality where a Mass Effect movie could ever have been done well enough as to surpass the game. I have no faith in Hollywood to make even a decent video game based movie.

I'd like to see this movie as being set in the Mass Effect galaxy, but not being about Shepard's battle with the Reapers. Or at the very least, a side story with any references to Shepard being vague enough that anything could be canon.

Its going to be a Paragon Male Shepard. The American Movie industry would not allow anything different. Also, I hope the model who Shepards advertisement face is based on plays him.

And then have Mark Vanderloo voice him Darth Vader style.

If it stars Sheppard, it will suck. Why? Cause it is not our Sheppard. It is the director's sheppard. Those who have played through Mass Effect have made Sheppard their own, and watching a movie of someone else's sheppard is lame. It would have to be a seperate plot altogether. Not that Sheppard cant be invovled somehow, but it cant be directly. So it could be good...if Sheppard is not in it.

Game moves could be good if they would not shun the source material (same for comic movies e.t.c.) Hitman completly shunned the source and sucked. Even had the best guy to play it available but no. The voice actor for 47 is also the character model's inspiration)
Basically, "Deadpool" is what is wrong with the movies. (Or could be called Twilight syndrome of calling something by a name it is anything but)

Mark Vanderloo is the face, Mark Meer is the voice.

Technically the default Manshep is already 'canon'. That's why he's the one who shows up in all the trailers on on the box art.
Ah, but will he save the rachni, push the old lady down the stairs, rape the babies or launch them into the jell-o planet?
Who says Shepard is going to be in the movie at all? Mass Effect has over 200 in-universe years of backstory. For all we know, it could be set during the First Contact War.

Which would be cool. Imagine the opening scene is the outside of a human colony on mars showing the excavation if "unknown" alien ruins. The excavator turns to the head government dude "The key is Charon". Next scene we go to a ship orbiting Charon that goes down they activate the relay and the words "Mass Effect shine through the glow".

Eeeaarrg.

Yeah... no. Not looking forward to this. Video game to movie adaptions suck until proven otherwise.

Besides, call me petty but it would feel weird seeing a Commander Shepherd who isn't a somewhat-ugly-dark-skinned-female-Vanguard-who-is-too-nice-for-her-own-good-and-has-a-penchant-for-shotguns-and-the-colour-blue.

Sure, I'll watch it, but more out of morbid curiosity then anything else.

However, that said...

Now this could actually work. Perhaps if they based it on one of the side characters. Plenty to choose from, although it would probably have to be one of the humans. So... Jack's backstory maybe? Miranda's childhood? I dunno.

Mass Effect actually has a story that goes beyond the standard sci-fi setting that even most movies are afraid to cross.
Okay, I just can't let that one go past unchallenged.

How exactly does the Mass Effect story go beyond standard sci-fi? Because the games I played had a sci-fi setting that was about as standard as it could get.
Cool spaceships? Check.
Hot technicolor space babes? Check.
Weapons that are suspiciously similar to modern weapons? Check.
Entire universe under threat from sentient machines? Check.
Mysterious and extinct precursor race? Check.
I could go on.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Mass Effect games and their setting. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one and the second is shaping up to be just as good, if not better. But saying that the setting "goes beyond standard sci-fi" just smells of fan wank.

I actually find the guy ManShep is modeled after to be pretty good looking. That said, all of my Shepards except one have been female, and I'd rather female Shepard be canon, just based on the fact that her voice actress has always been infinitely better in every way possible (The only exception being "Big stupid jellyfish" in ME1. ManShep nailed that one.).

Also, I've got a feeling Shepard will end up being played by Sam Worthington. Not sure why, but I get a feeling it will be. Not sure if he'd be the right choice though...
