PC version please!

No seriously, I'm too poor to own a 360. But the thing looks like undiluted awesome.

I got a slightly early copy(about six hours), and the first 5 hours of the game are great. Having said that, there are technical problems, but I have a hard time faulting a game that tries for so much when it's not perfect. I do hope there is a PC version in the future as I think a HD could have smoothed out some of the wrinkles but I'm glad I didn't wait.

Can't say right now but what I CAN say with minor *SPOILERS* (non-plot, just for if you want to experience the awesome first hand) is "Sweet Jesus it's John Goodman!"
I now love this game.

Amen brother! How can they make a game this good (I've seen in action but want to own it as my own) And if Yahtzee reviews it he'll jamming forks in his eyes (Like he promised he would if he uses the words "Sub-lime from start to finnish and I will jam ofrks in my eyes if I use those words to describe anything else ever again"(From the Orange Box review)

My biggest issue is the complaints about the technical side. I am aware there are some graphical adherences and negatives but they are so minuscule as opposed to how good this game is on a whole you would be wasting an amazing experience over nothing.

It's like sex in a way, sure you run the risk of her parents walking in, (red rings of death) or the possibility of clean up, (occasional slow down) but in the end it is worth it.

As far as I know you Mass Effect can't give you AIDS or Chlamydia either.

It's really just a win win all around.

Had it on Saturday to Review (COUGH http://www.xboxelite.co.uk/reviews.php?do=view&id=66 COUGH) and it is pretty fantastic.

Isn't a PC owner saying "I'm too poor to own a 360" ironic? After all you have to spend hundreds of pounds a year to keep your PC as a viable gaming platform ... Whereas a £200-£300 machine is going to last me upwards of 5 Years.

Anyway, Mass Effect is RPG of the Year ... Game of the Year is harder to judge with so many good (360/pc) titles flying around.

Sir, please step away from that console and put your hands on your head.
You have the right to remain silent. Also you have the right to remain celibate.. please exercise that at this current time.

I dont know about you but i often take my 360 into my room for a quickie before work. Theres just something about the way its hard drive whirrs, that makes Sgt.Winkle stand to attention.

I love everything about the game, so far.

-The combat is excellent. It plays a bit like a FPS, more like an RPG, but you have to THINK before you run into battles guns blazing and I personally LOVE that. The combat alone makes the game for me.
-The conversations system is everything its hyped to be. The seamless exchange of conversation makes me want to talk to everyone I possibly can, its fun in itself. In many cases its ends up becoming a "choose your adventure" scenario, where saying different things DOES equal entirely different outcomes.
-The graphics are amazing and I have yet to have any problems with glitches or slowdowns. Thats not fan boy banter- its the truth. Maybe it gets worse further into the game, but as of 5ish hours, nothing.

Overall I give it a 9.0/10.

I really like it. The combat is such a huge improvement over almost all other RPG combat that it makes the game extremely enjoyable. It's basically a squad-based combat (TPS format) hybridization with RPG skill-based combat. It's real time (though time does stop when you bring up menus - to use skills and such), emphasizes use of cover a lot (you don't want to stand and get shot), and has a lot of cool abilities. It's well-balanced, too (at least as far as what I've seen) so you can use whatever class you want for your character without worrying about sucking.

The atmosphere is great. Something about the talking seems very cool. It's like a cut-scene that allows input for all your dialogue choices. It's not seamless, but it's about as good as you'll get without having everything scripted for you. The galaxy is cool, and the starting area (Citadel) is also very neat looking (as are characters). My favorite races are the jellyfish things (name forgotten) and the elcor (large, lumbering things who always state their inflection when talking). So far, some of the worlds after Citadel seem a bit bland (driving a vehicle around desert and mountains to get to three or four objectives), but I've only been to about five total, and I'm avoiding doing the main quest stuff - I still wish there was more interaction, though.

You can definitely see the evolution from KOTOR (the galaxy travelling and such), but I'd say it's pretty significantly different, in more than just the atmosphere - and in good ways. It's also nice to be out of the Star Wars universe, because I'm tired of it. This particular setting is a much sleeker sort of sci-fi.

I'm a few hours in now, and I find it just as compelling and addicting as KOTOR. Maybe more so, because I personally feel alot of investment if I get to make my character's face. She really feels like she's mine. I chose to be a war hero, and everyone I meet treats me that way, so I can throw my celebrity around and use it in conversation.

I'll second (third? fourth?) the glitchy-ness. Nothing game breaking so far, but texture pop-in is the thing I've noticed most. Shepard will walk on screen and it'll look like she's wearing a grey body-stocking for about ten seconds before the textures catch up.

I've also really enjoyed the combat, though I'd like more of it. I'm still early in the game, but it feels like a long time between drinks. It IS highly tactical and things can happen quick if you're not paying attention. Mostly, your squadmate will be dead on the floor a few seconds after you enter a fight and you'll have no idea why.

Overall I'm very pleased. This game doesn't hold your hand, doesn't tell you where to go or how to do something (beyond the big stuff) and allows for failure without being frustrating.

I'm seeing the visual hangups as well. Frequent frame rate stuttering, constant texture pop-in, and a bit of tearing every time I rotate the camera.

That said, I love the game anyway.

Just got this today and love it but do you think they'll realease a patch for it soon?

I only started to get the pop-up and such after a good solid three hours of playtime.

Being an enormous fan of KOTOR, this is one of the only games I'd get a 360 for. Well, not buy a 360, but make me wish I had one. Here's to hoping that the next installments come to ps3 as well.

I tried to like it but ugh.

If i want to watch people talk for hours, I'll watch TV or movies. I like my games to have gameplay.

I did enjoy KOTOR though, I guess i don't have the patience for these kind of games anymore.

I am also a huge fan of the KOTORS, I have both of them on my comp right now.

HAY GUISE, HERE'S THE BEST RPG OF THE YEAR, AND YOU HAVE TO SPEND AN EXTRA $300 FOR AN XBOX TO ACTUALLY PLAY IT.

What good comes from console-exclusive crap like this? Does Microsoft think that the money they reap from people buying an XBOX just to play their game will counteract the money they could reap if they made it multi-platform?

Make it PC, I am lonely and poor. :(

Wow, it's a fantastic game. I will point out a few of the negatives, because the list is short.

1 Pop-in graphics
That's right, it happens in almost any Bioware game. You will be in a great conversation, and out of nowhere the armor someone is wearing will accrue highlights, designs, and textures. This was a major thing for me in KoTOR, and still is now.
2 I got nothing

Yup, my only complaint. The issue is that it pulls you out of the story telling quite a bit. It's distracting.

I love the rest of the game. I'm only about five hours in, and the last three have been just planet hopping to check things out. I highly recommend this game.
