Yeah, I got what is considered to be the "best ending". Not a whole lot better than the other two in my opinion.
Is it really that bad/depressing? I don't want to know the specifics, but if I do everything perfectly I'd better get bloodly rewarded for it.
The "good" ending is the best for the galaxy at large imo, but none of the endings are rewarding.
But do I get lots of little blue children?

I hate to break a promise.
Read at your own risk...

If you romance Liara it is likely that she may have become pregnant though depending on your ending you are either dead or you are forever separated by hundreds, if not millions of light-years (its unclear). There is absolutely no real closure for any character beyond Shepard (if he dies).
But I can't read spoilers T_T
Muwahaha!

I will say that, despite the last 5 minutes of the game sucking ass Liara's romance arc comes full circle and is probably the most convincing and heart-wrenching romances I have ever seen in a video game. They outdid themselves by LIGHTYEARS compared to the romances in the last two games.

The love scene and the final conversation you have with her are fucking awesome.
Heart-WRENCHING?

Dunno if I like the sound of that. I am emotionally invested here, after all. Really I started mass effect as a bit of a fun romp in scifi land but the romantic sap part of my personality took over once I figured out that part of the game.

That's the point of an open ending, though. It leaves you to fill in the pieces for yourself.

I myself have had many dealings with open endings, and though I agree this could have been executed with more care and precision, it's not inherently bad.

Heart-wrenching as in sad, sweet and everything in-between. Don't worry, it's good.

I could have lived with a completely open ending with very little closure if your decisions throughout the three games mattered in the end. None of the issues you resolve throughout the games really matter in any of the endings aside from stopping the Reapers. Also, pulling deus ex god crap out of their asses at the last possible second is weak.

From what I've experienced so far, the Liara romance is indeed very well played out in this game. I'm really wondering how my Renegade MaleShep's relationship with Ashley will be...of course, he did cheat on her in ME 2 by screwing Miranda's brains out. :3

Thanks for this post. Gives me a little bit of a heads up so I won't be TOO disappointed.

Not sure how I feel about Andersons new "look".
Liara, judging from screenshots, looks fine to me. What don't you like?

Evidently people don't like that she (and all other Asari) are now more detailed than ever before, to the point that you can see individual little scales across their skin giving them a textured look rather than being smooth-skinned like humans.

I haven't read the entire thread for fear of spoilering myself, but I finally got the game installed last night and the first thing that struck me is that they've somehow managed to make the FemShep hair options even worse than they used to be.

Plus for some reason the game couldn't import the custom face from my previous Shepard, so (sad as this sounds) I had to try to reconstruct it from scratch based on ME2 screenshots I happened to have. I didn't do a very good job, and I partly blame the hair models that make it look like she's got a gigantic head.

Sure I'll get used to that though, so far I'm liking pretty much everything else. A lot of the early conversations felt a lot more "streamlined" than they used to, but some of the old feel is coming back as I get further into the game.

Long weekend coming up here, guess where I'll be spending pretty much all of it ;)

I was disappointed that Tali was totally cool with me ditching her and going back to Liara. I wanted a cat fight :p

@Fappy: After reading the post where you said about the Liara romance,I'm really happy to see it for myself.

I just finished a few hours ago my playthrough with FemShep and romanced Liara in LotSB(I remained faithful)and I must say it's one of the best romances I've had in the Bioware games that I played.Comes to show that they can do a a proper job if they really want too.

I cannot wait until I finish my MaleShep playhthrough in which I romanced Tali and Liara in ME1(will continue with Tali in ME3),just to get to the second playthrough with my FemShep and see how the Liara romance pulls through.

Btw,I wanted to ask..how big is the game's lenght compared to Mass Effect 2 ?(which I clocked around 47hours total into it).

I think I finished in just over 30ish. Something like that.

I just completed it a few hours ago on Insanity. My latest save says around 26 hours, but with failed encounters and such, it's probably closer to 28-29 hours. I've been doing most of the missions/scanning and such outside the main mission, but it's not 100%, so around 30ish hours for 100% I think is about right.

I wish I had romanced Liara on my main playthrough and not on my renegade ME2 save is the case now, but oh well, if I do another playthrough at least I'll get to see it there.

EDIT: Ninja'ed by Fappy though!

Also,do you need to play the multiplayer for more Galactic Readiness or you can max out the neccessary points to get the "best" ending?

Doesn't matter from everything I've read. You get the same endings, regardless of whether you do multiplayer or not. And there isn't really a "best" ending, so to speak.

Fappy - may I first say that, regardless of the two of us having differing opinions leading up to the release of the game, I found your coverage to be fair and unbias, and not "RARGH! IT'S SHIT!" so thank you for the professional response to the game!

I live in the UK so I don't get this game until tomorrow, but all pros and cons put together, roughly how does it compare to the hype? With both positive and negative pre-release opinions taken into account?

You know... can I get back to this question later? I am still in shock from the terrible ending and my brain has not been functioning properly since last night.

I will say that it's a great game... just turn the game off before the final scene >.>

I'm about 12 hours in and I'm enjoying it immensely. The levels, while small, have are fairly open, which accommodates quite a few play styles. The story is a bit cameo-happy, but hitting all the right beats. So, thumbs up all around.

In the pie-in-the-sky wishing department, it's a shame Cerberus is so Humans First, as it could be interesting to see two competing alliances attempting to achieve two very different (and incompatible) outcomes. I would love to have seen my decisions in previous games affect how non-Council races allied themselves. Such as, destroying the research into the Genophase Cure in the second game would push the Krogan into your opponent's ranks, so the fight over the Krogan female in ME3 (while using the same map) would have two different objectives: saving or killing the Krogan female. As it stands, there's always the sense that there's a "right" outcome (or the choice between two equal paragon/renegade options). I would love to see some unforeseeable consequences that led to some messy resolutions with former allies.

While the multiplayer might not affect the single player experience, does that mean that it was just a bait`n`switch when they said that by playing the multiplayer component of the game it will influence the singleplayer part?

I mean,if you already can get max recruitment points in singleplayer, what's the point to play multiplayer then? Just curious.

PS: My game unlocks in 1h and I am -VERY ANXIOUS- to play it.

lol that would have been frickin' sweet! :p But considering how Liara would just have to break open Tali's face mask, my money would be on the biotic. :p[

I envy you. I have to wait for my XBox hardcopy to arrive. Play.com sent my N7 edition this afternoon.
