Well out here in the mountains its useful to have a cat or two around to keep the rats and moles away. So lots of men have cats/dogs and are not ashamed. Though I don't see any reason for anyone to think it is "the gay" to be owning any kind of animal.

Whoever says a guy owning a cat is abnormal needs to get their head checked out.
I love cats (am male) and I have three of them as a matter of fact.

I prefer cats over most dogs(large, intelligent dogs are the exception) simply because a cat seems to have more independence and if you raise one (correctly) it will love you back and be very mellow/sweet/funny little thing.

I have experience with cats so I guess it's just more natural for me to be treated like a roomate instead of an owner by my animals lol.

Most people dislike cats because they think that every creature that walks the earth or swims in the water has to bow to them(humans). They like dogs because most of them are pretty dumb due to breeding practices(breeds like Labs, and most types of small dogs) and are of course loyal because of the pack mentality.

I love cats and I'm a guy. I don't see anything wrong with having one as a pet...

*****, my Guinea Pig will eat your soul!

That being said, I'm a male, and it's not weird.
At all. I have no idea why anyone would think its weird.

What? I always thought it was socially acceptable for men to own cats. They're clean, they don't require much maintenance, they aren't loud, and they are much more sophisticated than dogs. I know most women love all animals but you would think they might appreciate not coming to a man's flat only to be slobbered over.

I suppose, on reevaluation, that it is far more "manly" for a bloke to walk their dog than to sift through kitty litter. But I don't feel it's any reason for someone with a proper mind to neglect another just because of the pets they choose. That's just ridiculous.

I own dogs and fish.

I'm a male. I personally prefer dogs, but I don't mind cats either, and I don't see why they're considered so girly. I mean, can you think of anything with more balls than a tom cat?

Besides David Tennant, obviously.

You do not have a cat as a pet. you cannot play with them, they lie about the house and think they are better than you. That is not a proper pet. I have a golden Labrador and that is a proper pet.

As a male yes it's weird, but weird is an oft misused word. Anything that isn't the norm is technically weird.

I prefer cats myself.
This. And I'm inclined to make an obvious pun but I'll steer clear of the banhammer and let you figure it out for yourselves :p

Seriously though, cats ftw. And I don't see what's not manly about one of the laziest creatures on the entire Earth that only cares about itself, it sounds like my kind of person/animal :p
A cat is fine too.

But really it's like people don't understand that cats are the muthafuckin predator. They are pint-sized versions of their bigger cousins and that shows if you watch them deal with things in their size bracket.

Lazy, selfish, and good at killing things my kinda animal.

There's a idiotic stigma attached to owning a cat, you must be feminine. It needs to stop, and when you compare the ancestors of the cat and dog, there is no comparison. Cousin of the dog----Dingo, Hyena, Wolf..... Cousin of the cat: Panther, Tiger, Lion..... Freakin PANTHER. I'm sorry, Panther beats all.

Female, and I think it's wonderful. I mean, I own a cat (and my roommate has two).

I guess it's just viewed as unusual to own a cat when you're a single male.

I'm male. I haven't heard about this "stigma" until recently. I love my cat. I mean, I've had it since I was in grade 3, but I wouldn't want any other pet. Dogs are too high maintenance (although I love them), and other animals lack the personality or can't have as much freedom as a cat. Besides, Harry Dresden has a cat and he's pretty manly.

Of course, my cat is "manly". She looks something like this:

The breed is a Maine Coon. They're very large cats. My cat is female. If I ever move out and want another cat, I'd get a male Maine Coon. They're gigantic.

If someone looks down on me for having a cat they can go die. Cats are manly and badass.

I've never heard of this before though, people will literally treat you like trash for anything won't they? People never cease to amaze me.

Female, doesn't bother me.
Seems pretty weird to judge a person based on pet preferences.

Except for those crazy bird owners.

Harry Dresden doesn't have a cat. Mister has a human.

What's wrong with owning cats?

I'm a male and I own 9. They're cute, low maintenance and don't stink. That's why I love them

I'm a guy, and I think that cats are badass. They spend their lives sleeping, hunting and staring at things condescendingly. They live without a care.

Male. No it isn't weird. Some people just prefer a lower maintenance pet. Some of those people are guys. That being said I wouldn't date a guy who owned a cat.
People are small minded >.<

Regardless, don't let people get you down. the fact that men have cat's is completely fine, and if they don't like it, then screw em.

I am male and I inherited my moms cat. I also have a dog. I would prefer to just own the dog.

I wouldn't date a guy with a cat because I am closed/small minded. I wouldn't date a guy with a cat because I'm not gay. If I were gay I wouldn't mind dating a guy with a cat. I myself am a cat person.

If i had time and money and space to have one, and my girlfriend wasn't alelrgic to cats i would have one.

Left my old cat with my parents when i moved out, cause i couldn't really bring him to a small apaprtment where i wouldn't be most of the time anyways.

I really liek cats mroe than dogs, they don't have that needy-ness a dog has, and cats are awesome.
