I have a cat, and I'm a dude. I've heard a lot about how "only gay guys have cats," but I have a serious argument against this. Bruce Willis' character in The Fifth Element had a cat. Is anybody about to call Bruce Willis gay?

To the orgional poster:
Maybe this is like a variation of "Crazy Cat Lady" but with a dude. You never know, you may have had a really bad stroke of luck and been within earshot of 10 or so girls who really don't like cats...

But to be honest if you have ever called the cats your "babies" then you may have a problem...

Male here.

No, it isn't weird, at least, not to me. I think cats are far cuter than dogs, and anything cute automatically wins.

Granted, some people would think having a Rabbit is weird for a guy to own, but I love my rabbit.

Why would it be weird? I love cats. Maybe I'll get one later as well.

I don't like dogs. I don't know why, but somehow I don't like them.

i'm not a fan of cats... but i noticed at one point that every boy who shows any interest in me has a cat whom they are very fond of... it's unusual...
i must be cat-like or something.

but no i dont think it's weird at all for a guy to have a cat.

I was the type of kid who rooted for Tom in Tom & Jerry. Yeah, I don't really get the stereotype of male cat owners. I own a cat so that means I'm gay or something. What?

I think the only appropriate reply to this thread can be: An Engineer's Guide to Cats.

Male. I had a cat from before i was born until I was 12. When it died I wanted to get another one. We got a dog instead. I like both. I want a cat when I get my own place though. Just better. It sits there and lives there just to take advantage of my food. I love it.

Male here, I personally like cats and dogs equally and even other pets like lizzards, etc. We have a cat, he's 15 years old, had him since he was 1 month old. Don't think this is wierd at all, for some people it's actually a problem of space. I'd like a dog also but I'd like to be able to offer him more space than the apartment we live in now, although many people have dogs and live in apartments, it's just the way I'd want it.

PS: I know I'm supposed to use "it" when reffering to a pet but I can't reffer to my cat like he's some kind of creature or object. He's part of the family.

Well look at it this way. They will jump over a wall when they see one, enjoy eating most of the time and are lazy as hell. Not that much difference to many men to be honest, me included. cats are awesome, and i don't see how they are not for men. That just doesn't make any sense. No one i know has said it's weird they have a cat. I don't have one, but my cousins had two, and they were epic.

Also i bet it was a bloke that made lolcats.

I am a male and I own a cat. I say owning a cat is just fine but then again, this is coming from the guy who owns a pet tarantula and a corn snake.

Thank you very much :)

I've always been a big cat lover. I don't mind dogs but I feel any small spoilt yappy dog is one step away from a distant relative to Cerberus himself.
I personally own about...eight or so far cats (none are allowed in the house however) to keep down vermin population but they're overall very loveable and a couple are fairly tame, such as the two mother cats "Chatty Cathy" and "Pudding"
When I was younger I still remember spending hours outside in the sheds just stroking them.

There's just something about a cat. An enigma wrapped in a purr that is more than capable of looking after itself and doesn't have that reliance on humans that dogs seem to crave. I admire people who can take the initiative and cats just happen to do that themselves too

i dont think it is weird at all. Maybe its a culture thing where you are from or something. i know that none of my friends really care what kind of animal people have. if a girl sees my cat she usually runs and hugs and pets it not get creeped out that i own one.

I like a guy with a cat, they get extra points in my book. Cause if you can deal with a cat's passive-aggressive bullshit they can deal a lady going randomly crazy once a month XP

Male.

Yeah I see it as a bit strange. Cats are seen as such feminine, lithe, and feline creatures. Those attributes are usually associated with women. Most men (I think) prefer dogs for the companion traits.

I'm a male. I don't think its weird and as far as I know, no one I know thinks it is. Girls think my cats are adorable so that helps I guess.
