I like both cats and dogs, but only certain types of dogs. Give me one of those little yippie dogs (like a Scottish terrier or a Chihuahua) and it wont be long before it's got a home that's not my house. No, I prefer big dogs and plan that when I finally get my own place I plan to adopt one of those retired racing gray hounds. *sniff* It made me want to cry when I saw them at the town festival; you'd pet them and they'd just rest their head on the side of your leg with this look that was like "ADOPT ME PLEASE!!! I'M SO CUTE AND PITIFUL!!"

That being said as a guy I don't find cats an odd pet to have at all, my family has had them since I was little. Yes they shed everywhere and get in your face at the most inopportune times, but overall they're a loving dependable pet to own.

Hah! No, it's not gay. I'm perfectly straight and I have a cat. My reason for getting a cat rather then a dog is because I quite frankly don't have enough space in my apartment to have a dog. I feel that it would be irresponsible if somebody like me, who doesn't have enough time to take care of a dog, got one simply 'cause it's cool. I don't have enough time or space to take care of him and he would just be miserable. That's just cruel.

So once again, no it's not gay. It's just stupid to say something like that.

Actually, most cats of either gender are quite a bit more manly than your average dog.

In short:

Dog: Slave
Cat: Companion

If dogs are masculine, and cats are feminine, wouldn't that mean that manly men don't need dogs?
Just a thought. Of course I don't take the symbolic values of cats or dogs seriously.

I prefer cats because they know how to take care of themselves.
My friend's cat used to jump out of the windows on the second floor of his house so it could use the bathroom outside.
Plus, some cats (like siamese cats) are very playful and love being around people.

Male, and as of yesterday... 12 CATS.

Beat that, haha! :D

4 baby kittens (born yesterday)
4 stray "Fallout" kittens, picked them up cause they needed food and care (2-3 months old)
1 slightly older male cat than the strays (4-5 months old)
1 almost mature, young tomcat (nearly a year old now?)
2 mature, cats, one is, hmm, unable to give birth, the other is a "Hive Queen" cat. Because all she does is get pregnant and give birth. Even despite receiving a 6-months-sterility shot... Gotta love nature.

Anyways, hm, gay? I consider myself heterosexual, but I'm not a sexual prude.

And, people who think cats are feminine, or gay, or whatever, have obviously not spent more than an hour with a cat. Cats are neither gay nor gentle. If they're something, they are FUN. And have these crazy and almost developed personalities. I mean... huh, it is beyond me how anyone could say cats are this, cats are that. Sure, they're different from dogs (I've had two), but both my dogs and cats at the time were very good friends and were also sharing their food, their sleeping place, and so on.

I mean, come on, animals are sweethearts. :)

And I see no reason whatsoever why anyone should prove his masculinity to an obviously prejudiced society by adopting a dog. It's a damn WRONG reason. A pet is a friend, not a tool. Take that, cat-hating "tools!" :p

next time you hear that you should say they should grow more than one braincell and learn proper English before mocking someone. grammar nazi comebacks are the -best-.
You also have to respond "Men With Cats Get Pussy!"

Male. No, I have two cats right now, brothers, they're so much less matanice, Just put some food down, and poop scoop the littler box once and a while. No walks, no crap in my back yard, no neigbours yelling at me becuase of my dog barking.

I like cats, and my opinion, is who ever jugdes someone on their animal prefreance, is a retard
This, in every detail (except the spelling errors in maintenance and preferance). =D

I have a cat and two dogs. Personally, I prefer the dogs. Their philosophy is superior. If they can't eat or fuck something, they piss on it.* That's something most guys can appreciate.

My cat's more like an ungrateful college dropout. He's a mooch living in someone else's house. Eats, sleeps. Repeats. Occasionally destroys property. Gets ranted at, rolls over and goes back to sleep.

*credit to shitmydadsays for that paraphrased quote

Maybe it's been answered, but I'm curious about the general location the OP lives in. Urban, rural, boonies? You gotta admit that owning say a Husky is more 'manly' than owning a cat, but where the majority of the people live in our society you can't really own a husky. I'm wondering if the OP lives in a rural area where the people making fun of them have big dogs and it's a sort of redneck thing, which while not excusable is understandble, or if he lives urban and they have yappy little mutts, which would be kind of sad.

Personally I like both, with a preference towards cats and since I live in the city own two of them. I'd like to be able to get a big dog too, preferably a great pyramese which was my last family dog, but I'd need to live in the boonies first. I don't really like to judge people but I've never understood the appeal of small dogs.

Oh, and if you want to see getting shown up for manliness in your pets, I live in the city with my two cats, while my little sister lives out in the boonies with a freakin wolf of all things. Unfortunately I don't think my girlfriend would ever want to live somewhere you can own a big dog, and while she likes the wolf wouldn't let me own one.

I've always preferred cats. Not too annoying, won't scratch unless you really piss them off, easy to maintain.
Meh, I'm mistaken for being "a ******" enough anyway, why not give 'em all another reason?

Male. I'm going to step out on a limb here and say whoever thinks a man who owns a cat is strange is a fucking idiot and needs to grow up and into a mature society. That being said you heard it from me first punch the next dipshit who has such thoughts, we need to start re-enforcing intelligent thought both socially and mentally.

Male, not even a little bit weird. it's a way of getting all the affection of a dog without all the neediness and walking (I do love dog too, though) and my cat's the best pet I ever had.

I've got two male friends who both have cats and love them to bits, they are just great pets.
