Mercenaries 2: Anyone Else -Not- Going Crazy Over It?

Lately there's been a lot of excitement over the release of Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, the sequel to the 2005 game Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. It seems everyone and their mother can't wait to get this game. Everyone but me anyway. So I just had one question:

Did anyone else think the first one was just a sub-par third person shooter with an alright-at-times story to hold it all together? Let me know if you agree or disagree, I'd like to hear your opinions either way.

Atcually, I've never played the first game. I'm just going to get it for a guilty pleasure But I will be waiting for the reviews anyway.

For me, it was the first GTA clone I ever beat and enjoyed, it wasn't the best game I ever played, but I had fun.

If the new game is in any way better than the first, I might get it.

I played the first one for about half an hour at a buddies house and was hooked, then I showed my brother one World in Flames video and he was hooked, I just reserved my copy about 2 hours ago.

ASSLOADS of explosions+Fully destructible enviroments>Guns.(Even the first one had 95% of the buildings destructible.

Could be good, could be bad, it all depends on the controls, since it looks nice and fun and the story's probably going to shit...

The first one was fun, and a very good rental.

I'm sure the second one will be just as fun and just as good of a rental.

the first game was pretty good, exept for a few factors and i think they have tried to fix a few of these in the new one... but until i play it.. i cannot say what it is like, but from speculation it LOOKS pretty good.

The open world started getting tired until about halfway when they sent the player to a new area. Other than that, it was fun.

I for one am a fan of sandbox games and it was cool to see one come out which didn't involve sealing cars and shooting cops. I thought Mercenaries was a pretty cool game, and the on-demand artillery barrages and carpet bombing were great features. I wouldn't say I'm chomping at the bit to get my hands on Mercs 2 as of yet but unless they muck it up royally it should be pretty sweet.

My neighborhood Blockbuster fucked up, so I got an advanced copy of the game and have already played it, it's actually not bad, I'd give it an 8.5 out of ten, for a couple of glitches, and sometimes unresponsive controls
And actually the story doesn't suck

The first mercs was a good freeform game for some decent fun but I wouldn't hold it above that.

The second one isn't coming to PC as far as I know so I'd couldn't care.

I never beat the first one but it was worth the fun to go around and just blow stuff up to kingdom come, and Theo Samaritan I believe it is, there is a Gamefaqs page for a PC one

Yeah, the PC one comes out Sept 4th instead of Aug 29 at least in North America.

1st one was fun as hell, 2nd one should be the same...

...besides, who doesn't like hurling a gasoline truck at someone you could easily just shoot?

Same here. The demo footage I saw looked pretty lame, looked like a producer using invincibility cheats just to show big explosions ultimately making the game look haphazard and sloppy.

I remember how cool the 1st game was though so I'm still optimistic.
