Two words: Avenged Sevenfold. Their best song is either "Beast and the Harlot" or "A Little Piece of Heaven", I can't decide.

All of it!

I like the kind of Metal that you can't really put in a particular sub genre.. Strapping Young Lad, Iron Maiden, Faith No More, Soilwork etc etc
This, Lamb Of God and Children of Bodom. Also Slayer.

Another amazing band that's only got a fleeting mention in here would have to be Strapping young Lad; Devin Townsend fronts for them, and he's a genius musician.

[strapping young lad vid]

.
Devin is a god of music... love the Evil Dead tribute in that vid too!

My personal fave of his:

So much fucking emotion in this song, it's such beautiful art.

Melodic Power Metal.

Yes, it's a genre.

No, it's not as awesome as it sounds. It's more awesome than it sounds.

Blind Guardian is the only band I know of that plays it, so I suppose that's my favorite band out of that genre.

And my favorite song?

Yeah.

The Iliad compressed down into 14 minutes of awesome

Dammit... it's the only album of his I don't have. The tracks i've heard have been amazing. The shitty music shops in my town don't sell his stuff, I have to go to Dublin when I want to get his albums.

I'm gona attempt a semi-serious post, and share with you all a brief selection of the music I listen to.

If your not keen on the growly metal, tune out now. You've been warned.

----------------------------------------------------
Not enough people have heard of a band called "ISIS" in my opinion.
In a world full of radio-edit length tracks, Isis have ignored the rules of mainstream and continue to belt out tracks of epic length.
Each album takes a concept and weaves a sound scape you could only imagine.
One could almost go so far as to say its ridiculous how good this band is.
This track is the closing track to their latest album 'Wavering Radiant" and one of the many I have playing when gaming.

Turn it up, sit back, close your eyes and let this one transform you.
Isis - Threshold of Transformation [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wm-LzfiBLuY]

Next on the list, we crank up the "Fist to Face" a notch.
Meshuggah. Yiddish for "Crazy" and that fits this group really well.
When I first started listening to this band a few years back after the release of the "Chaosphere" album, I remember feeling exhausted mentally and physically. Each instrument seems to be playing at its own separate pace, which makes it hard to keep up, yet it all comes together.
This band is also not afraid to take the piss out of itself, as demonstrated in the best music vid, EVER.
MESHUGGAH - New Millenium Cyanide Christ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A_tSyJBsRQ]
The pounding bass and sharp guitar continues its unrelenting assault in this track from their latest album "obZen"
Meshuggah - Bleed [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc98u-eGzlc]

And finally (for this post) the mighty Amon Amarth.
Viking Metal at its finest. One of my all time favourite bands and I'll be attending their 2nd Australian tour this November. Known for an awesome live show, including sword battles on stage, Amon Amarth have carved their own niche in the metal scene. Crafting epics around Norse Mythology and Viking Legend, each track is an epic in its own right.
Amon Amarth - The Fall Through Ginnungagap [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpvlYeokQhg]
AMON AMARTH - Thousand years of oppression [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oXITU16wGo]
Amon Amarth - The Pursuit of Vikings [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPRt6Tt6RyM]
Amon Amarth - Runes To My Memory [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVWBJHVSrAE] *WARNING = Epic Hair-Windmill*
Amon Amarth - Twilight Of The Thunder God [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQVrl7wRcNg]
*Personal Fav* Amon Amarth - Live for the Kill [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTEQ-jK4SZs]

There we have it, kids. Just some of the music on high rotation on my WinAMP.

Tune in next time I can be bothered to type this much shit, for more.

I'll break off from the general here and say that I very much like Tungsten. I might go as far as to say that it's my favorite metal. Used in everything from lightbulbs to ammunition, what's not to love?

I like metal which hovers around the power/prog/folk metal areas of the metal spectrum. Im also a huge Iron Maiden fan and love Bruce Dickinson's solo work.

This is the typical exhample of a song i like. Clear vocals, no growling, a nice guitar solo with some interesting instumentals and has a theme or message behind the lyrics.

Oh I dunno, Progressive Metal I guess? Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero and Tool mostly, with some Opeth and Sydonia on the side. Favourite songs by each:
BTBAM: White Walls or Ants of the Sky
Protest the Hero: Turn Soonest to the Sea or Palms Read
Tool: 10,000 Days or Parabola
Opeth: When or Windowpane
Sydonia: Dream Kiss or 3 Tongues
