You know, Kojima appreciates his fans and, if we send him a petition pretty much saying "Rising looks terrible" maybe he'll listen and re-do it the way it was supposed to be.
Of course, the game might still be fun but that doesn't excuse the totally jarring change of tone it seems to have taken.
Fanboys always think its "their" universe and not the actual creator's. I'm sure Joss Whedon gets hate mail daily about killing off Book and Wash because "that can't happen!!" /fanboyrage
More or less you will always get someone who thinks they know whats best for something they love but had no hand in creating...
If this was a new IP this would have been awesome and I would have considered buying it but as a Metal Gear game no thank you. It's way too cheesy over the top action and gore even for a metal gear game.

Here's a problem that usually occurs with these types of games:
1.) Game is set in-between MGS2-MGS4: THAT'S HOW HE RESCUED SUNNY?! THAT'S SO STUPID! SO MANY INCONSISTENCIES!
2.) Game is set after the events of MGS4: THIS ISN'T WHAT WE WANTED! I KNOW WE WANTED TO HACK PEOPLE UP AS RAIDEN AND THIS GAME LETS US DO THAT BUT IT'S NOT WHAT WE WANTED!
There's basically no way to treat a fan base when you do, reboots, spin-offs or sequels that stray too far from the original. Take the new Devil May Cry; I initially hated how they changed Dante but it's grown on me. The difference here is that they haven't changed Raiden too much, the gameplay is the major difference and that's something that people will either love or hate but the character they grew fond of is not changed, so at least they don't have fanboys raging at that.

So you admit that it looks awesome and you would buy it....but then say you won't because it's got Metal Gear in the title and has been established as being separate from Metal Gear Solid.

I was the same as you. I absolutely hated the new approach being taken by DmC and voiced my hatred just like everyone else but as I saw more and more of what they were doing I began to get more hopeful. NT have said that it's going to be separate from the Devil May Cry we know and I'm fine with that, quite looking forward to DmC now in fact.
I think that's why I'm able to look at the Revengence trailer and behave in a way that doesn't prove TV Tropes right.
Yeah well if you didn't realize it was a spinn-off before, you will do it now
I dunno, gonna follow it even though the massive disappointment, but as long as I know it's non-canon I suppose it's an okay way to kill time. Just wont expect to be blown away by a deep and incredible story :/
The only reason people were interested in playing as Raiden again was because he SUDDENLY became pretty damn cool between 2 and 4. We wanted to know WHY that happened. Now I'm not sure I even want to continue with the MGS franchise. I think it died some time after Snake hung up his bandana.
OK so it might look like a fun game. I'm not condemning it for that. BUT MGS is not about stupid over the top fun, it's about stealth and dark, intricate-to-the-point-of-convoluted storylines. This might be a fun game, but why give it the MG suffix? Just call it something else and make a new IP for heavens sake.

Metal Gear: Rising is not the same thing as Metal Gear Solid.
I love Metal gear and I'm willing to see what they do if they remove the constraints of "stealth action". Of course I still hope there are parts that have some stealth, like maybe gather some intel or eavesdrop before slicing their faces into 15 different slices of "Ha u dead!".
Also I want listen to a funny little conversation and find those little oddities that always make metal gear a fun experience. 3 had frogs, 4 has statues, music and near naked photo ops, I want collectable swords!
The thing I'm curious about is whether or not you can still have a no kill game [http://www.destructoid.com/no-kill-game-possible-in-metal-gear-solid-rising-181863.phtml]. If not, I'll be very disappointed.
Seriously, I assumed MGS4 would be the final point in the timeline, everything was wrapped up in a neat little package, Kojima are you trolling us or somethinhg?

Anything is possible once it is set AFTER the series; take a look at the Star Wars universe. I don't read the books but I can tell that a lot of events happened after they blew up the Death Star in Episode VI. They can get away with it because it's not ruining anything within the original context, unlike the game "Force Unleashed II" that basically decided that the canon was just a minor annoyance.

From Wikipedia: "a stealth action game set between the events of Sons of Liberty and Guns of the Patriots". Not this different setting and the non-stop flurry of action that Revengeance showed us. And that damn word "Revengeance" has no right to exist.
Of course, if it is still heavily stealth-based, maybe it'll be worth it. But I don't know. That trailer made me lose hope.
Wiki has sources that've been following the title since announcement. Everyone knew the game was supposed to be stealth-based and set between MGS2 and 4, then they change all that from out of nowhere. I think the fans reserve to feel like they've been lied to a bit.
And I didn't say the game was going to be bad. It might, indeed, be very fun. But just based off the trailer, it seems like an absolute betrayal of the series that prided itself on stealth and narrative.

I really like the Metal Gear universe, because of the titular Metal Gears, and I'm looking forward to this one, as well. I actually never really liked the gameplay, so this might be a nice change.
As long as the story works, I'm fine with it. I just think they should have left some things unexplained, instead of boiling it all down to the N-word* in MGS4.
*by that I mean Nanomachines. Seriously, a possible Supernatural element is much more interesting than a half-assed technobabble explanation.
Seriously. There Is NOTHING after MGS4. 4 was the end. A damn good end I might add. The only thing that was left to be explained was what happened to Raiden between 2 and 4.
I am very close to saying fuck it, not getting it just off of this. I might, I need to think about it and I would like to see more before I make the call, but simply, they better get the cure for sequelitis before anything else goes wrong. The whole change from tense stealth to acrade style beat-em up from the... oh, It's gonna hurt to type this... revengance (Oh god that hurts) trailer showed off was bad enough, but this? What the hell are they thinking?

Will let me put it this way, it's like if a Final Fantasy game took out all the rpg gameplay that made it great and replaced it with a third person shooter...
Okay bad example but you know what i'm saying. I know Rising is a spin off and not a numbered title but it still seems a bit off for a Metal Gear game for me personally.
Setting it after MGS4 makes sure that you don't have this ridiculous, colorful hack-n-slash tainting any aspect of the Metal Gear Solid story arc. I'd personally rather be able to enjoy it on its own terms than sit there going "Really? this was how the Sunny rescue mission was?!"
I see what you mean, but isn't the game simply giving us the finger by doing this? Raiden left his wife and son and broke all contact at first, then they got back together and Raiden stopped being a cyborg ninja. Then all of a sudden, it's MGS4-version once again in this game.
It kind of sounds like they're dismissing the ending of MGS4 or something...wait you're right. It's not like they've never done that before (MGS2 after credits), so yeah.

... This guy, and hordes just like him, are why this game is getting made, so thank him.
I can't believe you said you don't like the game play, one of the best game designs ever and you don't like it? I mean is stealth just not your thing or something? Sure the controls can get a little heavy at times but to me it's a system that can switch flawlessly between stealth and action (Peace Walker perfected this, as can be proved with several amusing stealth tricks that can be played effectively even on human opponents in versus), and that's something to be respected.
As huge a Metal Gear fan as I am (having beaten all of them several times, including the MSX games), I may just avoid this one as it's actually starting to look more and more like a slap in the face of fans.
In a way that makes sense, I read an article the other day about MGS4 that painted the concept that Old Snake is an allegory for Kojima in that he keeps getting dragged back to the same battlefield to do the same mission and he's getting sick of it, worn out. So maybe this game is designed to kill the fans desire for more MGS? It certainly looks like it's in no way a Solid game, that's to be sure, and it seems to be straying rather far from not only the amazing gameplay of the series but also it's rather complex and beautiful plot line (if you don't like Metal Gear's writing then either you have no attention span or you don't care about real world issues, or maybe you're just offended by how Japanese it is, I could see that too).
So while cutting dudes into pieces is cool and all, I'd rather see that out of a Samurai game than my favorite stealth series. Metal Gear Rising? Ironic as to me it looks more like Metal Gear falling.
Oh, quick side note: As a huge Metal Gear fan I'm totally cool with the series dying already. 4 was perfect, and I'm still glad Peace Walker came along as it was like the perfection of the formula, but seriously... It's over, but it's unlikely that money hungry Konami will let it rest (Silent Hill was also over a while ago, but even with Yamaoka gone they still apparently feel like it's alive and well), so it is up to us fans to tell them to stop by not buying the next game in the series.
