I like extreme metal the most
and folk metal
stuff like Marduk, Emperor, Immortal, Cannibal Corpse, Vital Remains, Opeth (mostly prog, yeah), Dark Fortress, Death, Decapitated, Dissection, Ensiferum, Enslaved, Entombed, Finntroll, Behemoth, Belphegor, Goatwhore, Gojira, Hypocrisy, Necrophagist, the list goes on lol

though I have a soft spot in my heart for power metal, in particular Blind Guardian, and there's no forgetting the classics like Sabbath, Pantera, Metallica (before they went down the drain), Megadeth, Slayer, etc.

edit: I'm also seeing Immortal soon, and hopefully Finntroll, Ensiferum, and Rotten Sound as well

Metallica didn't sell out I don't think. They just turned to shit
Though I cannot find it in my heart to disagree with your conclusion I would say their downfall was their sell out. I forgot the poor excuse they used when they changed their play style, something about keeping with the times or some BS, but it was a total sellout move. Regardless, we can at least agree they now suck.

I listen to a range of stuff, e.g. Nevermore, Iced Earth, Helloween, Nevermore, Madder Mortem, Opeth, Arch Enemy (I seem to be one of the few people who preferred the Johan era), Metallica, Blind Guardian etc.

I've been getting into Baroness lately as well, they really impressed me when they supported Metallica.

I love a lot of the bands mentioned so I'll just add a couple that weren't.

Veil of Maya, Corrosion of Conformity, Down, Faith No More, The Sword, and The Melvins. I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting but that's all I got for now.

I got the chance to see Baroness with Mastodon and Valient Thorr. One of the best shows I've seen.
