I will listen to most types of metal, but tend to lean more towards Death Metal or any band with a vocalist that sounds like a mix between a T-rex and Khorne the Blood God.

Awesome Bands:
Light This City
Edge of Sanity (Anything with Dan Swano really)
Whitechapel
Nile
Man Must Die
Gardenian
Gorguts
The Faceless
Amon Amarth
Archons
Samael
Slayer
Monstrosity
At The Gates
In Flames

And many more.

Awesome songs:

I fucking LOVE Slayer. They're my favorite band of all time. Ever. Seriously, they're fucking amazing. I also listen to Megadeth, Metallica, Dio, Rainbow, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, Ministry and probably a few others that I forgot to mention.

But yeah, SLAYER RULESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I listen to most metal. Favourite bands are Maiden, Death, Mayhem, Megadeth, Amon Amarth, Ensiferum, Carcass and a load more. Most genres/subgenres/whatever the fuck they are are alright, I despise recent grindcore bands though. Shit like Torsofuck and Spermswap are appallingly bad and give people the image that all metal bands are shite.

So who else cannot wait for 'When Man and Machine Collide'? I reckon it'll be fucking fine even without Schuldiner, But we shall see. Going to be hard to top The Fragile Art of Existance though.

Edit: The guy above me knows the score!

OP, I can tell you're a young 'un still fairly early on in discovering this genre. Half those bands aren't strictly speaking metal and the others are distinctly mainstream ones.

This is my collection thus far:

I gather you are Australian but I could swear that I knew you looking at that collection.
Aside from Arch Enemy and perhaps Amon Amarth, I could've sworn you were from Stockholm.

But on to the point. I agree with your post.
Thanks for quoting me twice. :p Yes, I'm Australian. So Australian in fact that I've seen Destroyer 666 live in the back room of a pub with a few dozen people. It doesn't get more metal than that.

And as you can tell, I am a devotee of the Stockholm scene. I even wrote a blog about it: http://www.vooks.net/forums/index.php?/blog/33/entry-301-stockholm-syndrome/ . My quest to own all the major releases from that scene has advanced nicely since I finally won a copy of Unleashed's Immortal Glory box set after two years of searching.
What happened was that my post didn't show up and I just made a new one and then they both showed up. And I didn't really see any "delete"function.
Gotta admit. Seeing Deströyer666 like that is bad ass.

System of a Down are most likely my favourite band, followed by Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth and Cannibal Corpse. Those are my main four.

Of course I thrive on all the old stuff, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, etc.

Some others I enjoy are Amon Amarth, Here Comes The Kraken, iwrestledabearonce, Waking The Cadaver, Psychostick and Powerglove. I think I'm forgetting some.

Oh, and I fucking love Dethklok. Metalocalypse is easily the best show ever.

I'm curious as to what the metalheads on this site listen to. give us your reccomendations & favourites

My faves are bands like Tool, Opeth, Isis, Sepultura, Parkway Drive, Disturbed, Dream Theater, Metallica. I have recently discovered some other bands i really like such as Machine Head, Five Finger Death Punch, Cathedral, Children of Bodom etc.

Now your turn
Not sure if I would class myself as a metalhead, but I do listen to a hell of a lot of it.

Because you mentioned Dream Theater I would recommend Voyager particularly the album 'I Am the Revolution'. Also Scar Symmetry.

Just thought i'd say, your avatar is awesome

Can someone recommend me some good slipknot songs, I'm intrigued by them. I decided I like the band but not the music, yet. Note: I do not like Duality, and Before I Forget and other popular songs I'm not a fan of either.
Thanks, man.
I don't know what it is, though. Type 'Timewave Zero' into Google Images and it should pop up somewhere.

As for Slipknot, I'd reccomend the songs Left Behind and Wait and Bleed. I especially like the latter. I don't know why.
You don't know what it is? It's lateralus, by Tool, one of the greatest albums of all time
So it is...hold on, I found a more awesome version of mine.

I usually listen to:

Slipknot, Vader, Rammstein, Dragonforce, Airbourne, Motörhead, Sabaton, Raubtier, Disturbed, Excrementory Grindfuckers, Alestorm, Frank Zappa, Slayer, Drowning Pool, Deathstars among a few others.

I do have varied taste in musical genres, but metal is pretty dominant.

Bands I've seen live include:

Airbourne, Motörhead, Sabaton, Alestorm, Dragonforce, Disturbed, Arch Enemy and Machine Head, among a few others which I can't be bothered to remember...

I wish I responded to this thread sooner!!

I mostly love me some power metal, melodic death metal, progressive/symphonic metal, Viking/Folk metal, and some death & doom metal.

Mainly...

Kalmah, In Flames, At The Gates, Insomnium, Opeth, Sonata Arctica, Adagio, Dark Tranquillity, Wintersun, Norther, Amon Amarth, Children Of Bodom, Rhapsody of Fire, Black Dahlia Murder, Stratovarius, Warmen, Arch Enemy, Ensiferum, Equillibrium, Katatonia, October Tide, Cryptopsy, Dimension Zero...

I should stop now because it's way too many bands to list so I always forget some that I listen to a lot

My favourite bands would have to be (and three favourite songs)...

Anaal Nathrakh:
In the Constellation of the Black Widow
When Humanity is Cancer
Genesis of the Antichrist
Woo! Finally something that not everyone knows!
Also, they are absolutely brutal live! :D

But yeah, im more of a Doom / Melo Death person these days.

Swallow the Sun, Insomnium (melo death), The Foreshadowing (brilliantly atmospheric), Summoning (tolkien inspired black metal, awesome atmosphere), Black Sun Aeon, Void of Silence.

I used to listen to more.. generally known bands like:
Amorphis (awesome live aswell!) Kalmah, Machinae Supremacy, Dagoba, Anaal Nathrakh, Scar Symmetry, Wintersun, The Haunted.

But I started with power, mainly Sonata Arctica, Dragonland, Blind Guardian, Rammstein, Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Arch Enemy, Die Apokalyptische Reiter.

And many more. I think my last.fm is linked to my profile aswell. But look for Yggdrassil over there.

And by the way, anyone going to Summer-breeze 2011?
Kudos for liking most of the bands I like!

They have awesome artwork, you could justify buying one of their albums just for the art
