A very disappointing lack of Devin Townsend in this thread. Honestly now!

Yes! Love Devin Townsend's stuff, if my avatar wasn't already a dead giveaway. Found out about Devin after searching Google for metal bands where the lead singer doesn't growl or scream (too much anyways) ironic considering his earlier band SYL.

I like what I've heard of CoB. Which album is a good first one to listen to?
Well, their first albums I would say are power metal with harsh vocals.

Their latest albums are less oriented on colorful melodies, and have more heavy riffs and eerie melodies.

My personal favorite of Children of Bodom is their inbetween period with their two albums Follow The Reaper and Hate Crew Deathroll. They mix very heavy riffs with still memorable melodies.

Take your pick. Hopefully most of them will be in your taste. As for what albums to start on: If you like the more power metal-ish stuff, go for Hatebreeder. If you want the new harsh sound, get Blooddrunk. If you want the stuff from their inbetween period, both FTR and HCD are great albums. Personally, I'd go for the latter.

I used to listen to a lot of metal, but not so much any more... Anyway, Sabaton [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhKgzQEhvgk] and Children of Bodom [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84NVNzesY-8] are easily two of my all time favourite bands. Especially Primo Victoria and Follow the Reaper (Follow the Reaper in particular, it's one of few albums where I enjoy all of the songs).

I guess the only bands I listen to that could be considered metal are Diablo Swing Orchestra, Skindred, Alestorm, Mastodon.

I don't know, maybe Maximum the Hormone and Clutch too?

All of those bands are pretty soft - in terms of metal - overall, but eh, they're all classified as metal.

Fucking love metal!
I listen a shit load but some of my favourite S.O.A.D(greatest band ever), Metallica, Opeth, Mastodon, Dream Theater, Slayer, Soundgarden, Rammstein.
Ah beauteful music....
I have a question for you: best Opeth album?
Morningrise by a long shot for me. I know everyone is all over Blackwater Park as "teh best EVAR!!" but I prefer the longer rambling medieval sounding riffs on Morningrise.

OT: Some of my favorites include Mastodon, Tool, Megadeth, Ministry, Metallica, Sleep, Black Sabbath, Mercyful Fate, Dream Theater, Kalmah, and High on Fire.

Two great things at once

I also like Ensiferum, among others

Anthrax are my favourite band of all time, but I listen a fairly varied lot. So long as it's not black, death, (most) viking metal I'll probably give it a go.
