OP, I can tell you're a young 'un still fairly early on in discovering this genre. Half those bands aren't strictly speaking metal and the others are distinctly mainstream ones.

This is my collection thus far:

There is a large amount of metal I've listened to and I don't like. That said, I'm still discovering, that's mostly why this thread exists :)

I find the bands I like aren't specifically a "metal" band, but rather have metal parts in some of their songs, or have metal songs. Like Nirvana and Porcupine Tree.

I don't mind metal, though I really don't like the direction its been moving since the end of the 90's.

I'm a mixed bag when it comes to metal when its from Rammstein to Disturbed i like a lot of aspects of metal except a lot that involves sensless screaming.

At the momento i'm listening to a great metal song from Elena Siegman called 115 and its actually quite good for the game its paired with =3.

maudlin of the Well? anybody? Well to call them Metal would be pretty insulting to them. they are/were far beyond anything metal could ever hope to be.

same with Kayo Dot.

Just thought i'd say, your avatar is awesome

Can someone recommend me some good slipknot songs, I'm intrigued by them. I decided I like the band but not the music, yet. Note: I do not like Duality, and Before I Forget and other popular songs I'm not a fan of either.
Thanks, man.
I don't know what it is, though. Type 'Timewave Zero' into Google Images and it should pop up somewhere.

As for Slipknot, I'd reccomend the songs Left Behind and Wait and Bleed. I especially like the latter. I don't know why.
You don't know what it is? It's lateralus, by Tool, one of the greatest albums of all time

Four pages of metal talk and no one brings up Chevelle? (at least not that a find feature showed me. I'm not reading all that)

...Makes me a sad panda. Chevelle may be pretty simplistic but they do such an amazing job really capturing powerful emotions that they became a favorite band of mine years ago.

I'm really into the 'Nu-Metal' as they call it. Disturbed, Korn, Taproot. Things like that. I love songs that make me feel like I could wrestle with a Mac truck and win.
