Might be true on the getting started thing. But I have known many folks who stopped using cause the first trip to jail was enough. Usually though that's only true with weed.
Wait, what? Do you guys send people to jail for smoking weed?
Technically you go to jail for 'posessing' the MJ not smoking it. If you smoked it all before you're caught and aren't driving or out in public you really wouldn't get arrested for anything.

Like all drugs laws in the USA possesion and how much is the name of the game. Less than 2 oz. gets you a fine usually. More than that you you might be looking at some jail time. If you have a lot on you it's assumed that you are 'in possesion of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute' this is bad and can get you many months-years.

Meth example. Had a guy been caught with 'dealer' (usually about 12 oz.) amounts of meth three times. The third time he had approx 2 kilos he has been sentanced to 12-24 years. He acutlaly was a really nice guy when he was in jail and off the junk.
over in the UK dealing class A drugs (which I think includes meth) can get a life sentence and a unlimited fine at the maximum.

no, cause then kids would realise that there was nothing wrong with taking weed from the age of like 8 as opposed to 14
the truth is, there isnt THAT much wrong with most drugs, but they're illegal so they lie/exaggerate to justify the law
If you're a parent, and your 8 year old can hide a marijuana habit from you, you're a horrible parent. If you let your 8 year old smoke marijuana, you're a horrible parent.

And you honestly think lying to justify a law is ok? That's fucking ridiculous. If there's nothing wrong with doing a drug, then it shouldn't be illegal. Lying to your kids, and scaring them with false propaganda turns them into ignorant little fuckheads, and when they find out you were lying to them, they feel like you don't trust them to be smart enough to make the right decision.

Never lie to your kids about drugs. If they ask you about them, find out the answer for yourself if your parents poisoned your own understanding, and tell them the truth. If you're honest with your kids, then they'll make the right decision.. and if they don't, you'll be able to help them without patronizing them.
yoh dude, chill
i think a lot of drugs should be legal, im just presenting the facts (at least in my mind since they're subject to opinion), but the truth is that kids are scared with flase propoganda - stories of kids dying from one pill of mdma, that everyone who ever smokes weed becomes schitzo, that weed is a gateway drug and means you'll DEFINITELY end up getting addicted to heroin

as for kids smoking, i never said 8 yr olds would start, but they'd have a positive view on it from a much earlier age and would start at first available oppurtunity
and the truth is that it's not hard for any kid who's given freedom to go out with his friends alone to smoke pot behind their parents' backs, it's not bad parenting

bad parenting would be restricting your kid from going out
to stop them doing it (not that they should be stopped unless they're younger than 13) just explain the facts to them
like NO kids that i know/have ever met want to start smoking cause it's cool, they start because they smoke spliffs with nicotine in them
but every kid knows that nicotine is shit
if the same approach was applied to other drugs then there'd be better control over them

Effects: It gets some people high, makes some people a lot of money and gets some people beaten up and killed.

Should it be legalised?: Not in a million years.
This. I have no idea why you would suggest legalizing it, that would just make the problem worse.

Alright this is my opinion. All drugs should be legalized. In the case that this would happen all drug cartells and violence would be moved elese-where. allowing the retail buisness to sell a product will kill any risk involved in distribution of any drugs which gangs feed off of to create wealth. we spend so much money on the "War on Drugs" every year could be distributed to drug recovery organizations that would creat jobs and help people recover from drug addiction.
Also, there have been interesting studies in which counties with legal pot users are are about 33% and in the USA 50% of peiople say they have tried pot.

Is this thread some sort of horrible satire of the whole "legalize marijuana" issue?

Crystal Meth should totally be legalized! So should drunk driving, date rape, and child porn!

/massive sarcasm

Although I don't think it should be, I can see why people would want to legalize mary jane. Why anybody would even consider legalizing any of the harder drugs is beyond me by many, MANY miles. Even the people that use it know it's bad shit, and that sort of signals us with a resounding NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Ok, I'm staying neutral on this one, but one could say that in a truly free society, people should be allowed to put whatever they want into their bodies.

I don't see why the government has any right to control what people do to their bodies.

I'd stay the fuck away from it either way though.
People are idiots, the government must look out for it's people, like a parent, but there are always those idiots who think they can do whatever they want, then we invented jail and cops, tasers and prison rape. Check and mate.
Don't get me wrong, I know how damaging it is -and I wouldn't do it in a million years- but
I was just saying that maybe people should have the right to be stupid. If they want to be really stupid, then let them.

Shouldn't we just follow the pattern of...DRUGS ARE BAD.

Thread over xD.

Seriously though, I'd never dream of legalising a drug.

Meth is unbelievably damaging to the human body, and I'll tell you why. From what the knowledge deity Wikipedia has told me, meth can cause the following: anorexia, insomnia, constipation, diarrhea, hypertension, increased anxiety, increased aggression, increased paranoia, increased irritability, hyperactivity, CONVULSIONS, STROKES, HEART ATTACKS, and MAJOR DEPRESSION as a result of withdrawal.

So tell me, is a short-lived high worth all that? I don't frakking think so. Did I mention it is extremely illegal?

Legalizing meth is like legalizing heroin- there are WAY too many negative factors and the amount of positive ones can be counted on one hand.
