Gawdammit.

This seems like a good time to bring up that song at the end (and halfway through) Team America.

'Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies? cuz Pearl Harbour sucked.... just a little bit more than I miss youuuuu.'

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a kid's series. So was Transformers. People should stop acting like Michael Bay has shat on some sort of sacred cow and just enjoy the mindless violence.
I think the whole Optimus-Prime-has-5-lines-and-gets-killed-halfway-through-his-own-movie thing is a pretty justified gripe. Oh, and Shia LaBeouf.

To all the people saying, "Just don't watch it": I think it's pretty safe to say that most of the people calling for Bay to be lynched aren't going to watch his movies...or, at least, they won't pay to see them. I haven't seen anyone say, "Argh, I hate him so much, why is he forcing me to see his crappy movies?" It's more "Argh, how does he keep getting the rights to defile my favorite franchises?", which I feel is also a justified gripe.

Fact is that crappy movies with big names slapped onto them can make a lot of money. Just look at Spider-Man 3. Now, I'm not going to claim to be a film critic or anything--in fact, I enjoyed the movie, but a lot of people seemed to have hated it. Most of my friends did. I've heard nothing but bad things about it. Despite all that, it still set records in the box office and, at the end of the day, the movie industry is about business, not art. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well, the formula still makes money, and, therefore, is not broken, despite the actual quality of the work produced.

What I'm saying is that the problem that Michael Bay--and anyone else who's satisfied with making a steaming pile as long as they profit--the problem that these people perpetuate is the notion that money is better than art, which diminishes the franchise as a whole. Just look at the Wii. It opened a door for just about anyone who could slap together a gimmicky, motion-controlled minigame. Because the technology was (and still kind of is) novel and the games were quick and easy to get into, money from the casual consumers started pouring in. As a result, the Wii, as a system, is now a laughing stock to most "hardcore" gamers that don't consider themselves Nintendo fanboys.

Why stop him when you can just ignore him?
Because there are far too many people in America for that to ever work. Boycotts fail if you don't organize and cut a significant amount of the target's profits. Fact is that as long as Bay is entertaining, it doesn't matter if he's actually good for anything. Paris Hilton and the like are prime examples. What has Paris ever done to be famous? Well, she's famous, which makes her entertaining, which makes people pay attention to her.
I'm not suggesting a mass boycott.

I'm suggesting individual boycott.

If you think Bay's movies are going to corrupt cherished memories of beloved franchises then just don't watch them. Bay fans get a ton of explosions, Bay makes a ton of money, you're memories remain rosy and pure. And, best of all, the internet doesn't get flooded with butthurt nerds. Everyone wins.

I'll reserve judgement until I've watched the finished product.
Inb4 the movie's main focus is a love story between April and Casey, and the turtles get two lines each.
Are you suggesting that he might ignore a fairly significant part of the expanded TMNT story-line?

Blah, Blah, Blah, Story, Blah, Blah. Yeah it never had an amazing story and it never will but Bay struggles to make a good movie in any aspect, just picking TMNT like that when one was released not long ago really doesn't look good.

I don't care really, as long as he isn't remaking true classics.

To be honest, I think we need to deal with Tim Burton fucking up every childhood fairytale before we deal with Michael Bay.

I already addressed that. It's not just a matter of whether or not I have to sit through the movie. It's a matter of culling the herd, I guess you could say. Even if the actual people who work on the movie are in it to make a quality product, many producers and investors are in it to make their wallets fatter. This causes them to pressure the crew into shoehorning crap into what, otherwise, could have been a good movie. Then crap starts flooding the market and you have to dig especially deep to find the timeless gems. I made an example of the Wii before, but look at the anime market, too. For every Serei no Moribito, there are at least thirty Zero no Tsukaimas.

Why not just do what Hipsters do and whenever someone mentions how awesome the new TMNT movie is, and they aren't "In the fold", you scoff and say "The cartoons were far more sophisticated and ecclectic than that."

...Of course, doing so would make you one, and I would have to hunt you down.

Although, I will agree. Why the fuck does everyone have to make re-makes? I have more creativity in my dick than these people. Fuck, pay me a million dollars to write something new instead of zombifying old franchises. I bet I could write a plot that could be engaging, mystifying, and "explosive".

If you take this idea to its extreme and manage to create a porno with good writing and acting, you may just revolutionize the film industry.

Why would he remake TMNT? I mean...there's no way he could make it explosive...if it was the Power Rangers than I could see him making them tap an enemy and they explode...but why? Why would they remake movies like that? Hasn't our childhood been trampled over enough? D:

Oh, yeah, because those movies are totally gonna suck once bad remakes of them exist. They can never be enjoyed again.

Edit: Also what this guy said...

Can I be the first to say I don't care at all about this topic.

My level of not caring is in fact so high, that I could barely be bothered to post here.

Except this thread title comes up EVERY OTHER WEEK.

In the grand scheme of things, a movie coming out that I might not enjoy based on a directors other work, that will appeal to a lot of other people, but not me... Well to complain about that seems pretty damn selfish.

And don't even get me started on "if you think money's more important then art..."
No one is going to get funding to make a film that will appeal to the thousand TMNT fans out there without changing a lot. You aren't personally losing anything. The film you thought this could be will not and would not ever happen.

And thus that elusive term of "anthropomorphic animal cruelty" is at last given context...

Just don't go watch it or buy it on DVD, and it'll all be fine... for you. Those poor fictional turtles though.

Bay sucks, his movies are garbage.

The original TNMT movie was pretty sweet, from a nostalgic point of view. I'd watch it right now if someone found me the DVD. The following movies were pretty bad, even secret of the ooze wasn't terrible. Hell, I watched that on TV just the other week!

If anyone can take something that died, and bring it back to life just long enough to watch it die again in a horrible horrible way, Bay is that man. I hate him.

He is all helicopters, in slow motion, at sunset/sun raise.

Hey, if he makes it more like the comics and less like the shit it was ever since the comics, I'm all for it.
