I think hes alright

I would love to see him play a different role than a awkward teenager in love with a girl out of his league.

Arrested Development was his only real role the rest have just been a progression of that same awkward slightly geeky teen character.

Oh, awkward teenage guy? Needs some variety, otherwise, he's okay, but he's nothing special. I don't understand his appeal in many aspects, honestly. I mean, his vocal range seems fairly limited, but that's probably just the one-role problem again.

I can't really say anything about the guy, except that he's good at playing an awkward teenager, because that's all he's done. And when you think about it, is that really that big of an accomplishment? Hell, I play the awkward teenager all the time, because that's what I am.

I thought he was fantastic in Arrested Development. I don't particularly like him in any of the shitton of teenage comedy movies though.

He just keeps playing basically the exact same character all the time. That really gets old fast, and I really have no interest in anything he does because of it.
That may be true, but don't write off Scott Pilgrim in that vain... if you were refering to that... but that movie was good...

To be honest, I haven't looked into anything about that movie at all.

Why do people hate him so much? I like him. I found him rather humorous in Year One...but my sense of humour isn't exactly normal.

Perhaps you should look more into it, it was a well done and humorous film.

I strongly recommend it :).

I really enjoyed his work in Arrested Development and Superbad. After that, I kinda got bored with him always playing similar characters. Scott Pilgrim's a pretty big change for him, and I'm hoping it'll signal a shift but if not, I'll probably go right back to loathing every movie he's in.

In the end, though, I can't really dislike the kid because to me, he'll always be George Michael, that awkward kid running the Bluth Banana Stand.

I don't really care for him. He wasn't bad in Superbad, but I didn't find myself paying much attention to him in that movie, so meh.

Overall, I don't mind him. He does tend to play similar characters in every movie but at the same time, his career is young and he has time to grow. There are many (most?) actors who are many many (many) years older them him who have built entire careers out of playing the same character repeatedly so while it would nice to see him change it up once in a while, being one note is far from unusual. In short, he's not particularly a reason I would go to see a movie but he's definitely not a reason I would avoid seeing a movie.

Best Role: Scott Pilgrim
Best Movie: Probably Pilgrim, but Juno's close.. and that was really Ellen Page's movie anyway
Worst Role/Movie: Year One (but that's a still steaming pile of .. that I doubt anyone who was in it wants on their resume)

I dislike him.

Always some wimpy mousy nothing that I guess some people can relate to?

How so?

What was the sex like that got Juno pregnant? Quiet and Fast?

I think he was made for Scott Pilgrim. Having said that, he's not really any different than any other actor who gets typecast into a certain personality just because he happens to be good at it. I think it's really just that the awkward teenager archetype is annoying, not necessarily Cera himself. The only reason we don't get mad at Keanu Reeves for being a deadpan or Bruce Willis for being Bruce Willis is because at least they get stuck into roles and stories that are exciting for our inner terrorist, and don't try to make money reminding us of various stages of puberty. For instance, Cera's limpwristed Tyler Durden-esque alter ego in Youth in Revolt cracked me up.

He's monolithic. He does a pretty good job at being an awkward teenager, but he seems to be incapable of any other role. So as an actor... good in the right role. Which is both a good and bad thing.

But for the record, I think anyone that refuses to see a movie just because a certain actor is in it (Cera included) is an idiot. One actor you don't like doesn't magically make every other aspect of the movie suck. Related example, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. The movie is awesome, regardless of Cera. Stop being stupid and go see it, people.
You know, I've seen your posts before and I typically agree with 100% of what you say. Perhaps we should date.

Ha, just kidding....kinda.

Anyway, pretty much what was said there. He's alright but he just does the same thing over and over again. Doesn't make the movies he's in bad, just that he's bad in the movies.
