I replaced some words in the first post with 'hotdog'. I laughed my ass off.

Here's a thought: Don't waste your points. hurr durr Just because you HAVE them, doesn't mean you have to spend them. I'm not taking up for Microsoft. It's a shitty system, but you're letting yourself be exploited by putting points on picture packs. : / Save them, eventually they'll accumulate and you'll be able to buy something worth buying.
Agreed. If you save your points, MS is only making the most of about $3 off of each person in the end, if you think about it. I'm pretty sure anyone can make $3 looking for money on the sidewalks...

The X-Box is the most wasteful PoS IMO, seriously having to pay just to play online, damn rippoff :S

I never know how much I'm actually paying for DLC and arcade games. If I bothered to actually work it out I'd probably be really surprised how much I've spent. But I never download those crappy picture packs or anything just to use up points. Well, I think I've paid for a couple of dashboard themes....

I love my 360, but the PS3 is better in these 2 areas.. knowing how much you're actually paying for content on PSN, and being able to download and make your own themes.

I mean if you but enough points you will have leftovers to eventually get something else. I have 200 points in my account for the last 6 months
I have like 67 just sitting in mine (I'm a Zune user)

For those who don't know, every 800 points=$10 so just use that to determine how much you're spending.

BTW, just buy the retail cards, their points always come in multiples of 800.

I agree, you always have to buy more points than you need.

Hot-dogs...... Do the packs hold more hot-dogs than the bun package holds?

Tell that to the WOW players who pay $15 a month for ONE GAME. At least paying for Xbox Live covers every 360 game, and it's much cheaper than $15 a month!

Point taken, but I don't do either and play all my games on PC and PS3 for free with no issues, so to me both cases are a waste of money and rather silly IMO.

the whole points thing always confused me, i never understood why they had to throw a middle-man between me and my DLC. why cant we just directly purchase content and it charges directly to the card on my account? my xbox live subscription has no problems doing that.

or if they insist on a point system, why not something logical, like 100pts = $1. the whole concept is ridiculous and the strange 1.25 to 1 ratio seem to be aimed at distorting our value of real money. you know what i mean, ooohh its only 1200 pts rather than, ugh, thats $15.

It's a money thing. You're left with a small quantity of points, so shit like Gamer Pictures and Themes suddenly become extremely attractive prospects.

/has purchased gamer pictures from Dead Rising due to this very phenomenon.
I got the Hitman4 rubber ducky picture because of this. What the hell else was I supposed to do with 20 points? The console doesn't exactly have a bubble gum dispenser. Especially funny since now I'm just using the free avatar thing.

I don't care, PS3 has dollars and change system.
BUT THEY KEEP YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER.
Greedy asses.
So does your 360. I'm always a tad sceptical about systems that use any method of currency other than "real" money. There is of course the aforementioned leftover points issue, but I also feel it's a handy way to disguise the true value of some of the items you download.

Who's to know if one 800 point item is really worth the same as another?

I never liked the points on the Wii or 360. I liked PSN's method of only putting in the amount you're actually going to use.
Agreed, although it's slightly annoying that I'll put 10$ in for a game that's 9.95$ and have that 5 cents just staring at me forever >.<

Maybe I'll save up enough to buy something eventually!

This is what I was reminded of with BF1943.

The ad stated that it was 1200 MS points (which they say was like $15) but when you had to actually buy those points, it was the 1000 point thingy and the 500 point thingy, which amounts to over $20.

And even after all of that, BF1943 is the buggiest, glitchiest, worst game I have ever paid 15 dollars for. Yet I'm still addicted to it because I love battlefield games.
