You people are all tools every single one of you. Get off of the Microsoft Hate-Bandwagon.

You SHOULD read this as a compliment. The line reads defying the stigma that THE PUBLIC applies to you, not Microsoft. Unless you are arguing that you are indeed a fat sweaty 30 something metallica t shirt wearing ingrate and are some how being offended by this.

Look at the context.
"Gaming's not just for sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts"

Lemme break it down for you.
If it read "Gaming's just for sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts" I wouldn't be posting this. And your hatemachine would be right. But there is some strong Keywordage in there known as the word NOT.

So, yes, please continue to hate microsoft on baseless internet hatemachine tactics and CONTINUE to define the stigma that in fact you all are sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts.
Em I do agree not to jump on the band wagon but I think it is you who isn't reading the context right. It was said to probably a bunch of mostly non Gamers and was said to try promote Kinect to the casual audience that it why we are a bit pissed.
And? Are you upset your club isn't exclusive to the most intense of hardcore anymore?
To every gamer with a significant other of any kind who "doesn't understand the addiction" this is a potential way to continue to playing games and not estrange your loved one. I'm not worshiping Msoft by any means its just social commentary. Suddenly you are still playing games you like, and you are forging stronger bonds with your other half in the process.

Same for parents, who want to spend time with kids.

Seriously? I consider myself a hardcore gamer and I am not sweaty, or thirty, or live in my mom's basement. Hell, I'm not even a guy!

He's just part of Kinect. His job is to appeal to a casual audience. I bet he doesn't know shit about how we're not just some stereotype. Seriously. Way to alienate any hardcore gamers who were willing to try Kinect.

... He just had to say Metallica, didn't he? Well, I guess he does have on stereotype on me there >>

I don't wear thirst with logos most of the time. Ts not one of those douchey "I don't sell out to major corporation" idiot statements. I just don't care.

Also. I used to have atleast faith in e Kinect. But it's becoming more and more obvious it's niching but pandering to the casual crowed. I'm calling Kinect a bomb every way but sales. I hope it gets ripped apart. Unless it turns out to be good. Then I'll buy one. But let's be honest here.

Thats a straight up lie, I am a 20 year old in an At The Gates T shirt, and I have never called myself a hardcore gamer. I prefer video game enthusiast.

To be honest, I could hardly care less whether or not he was complimenting or insulting the core audience. All I know is that when Microsoft realises that the oversaturated market they entered isn't as profitable as they thought it was while Nintendo is busy stealing their existing audience, I will smile.
I must say, I like you, Tom. From this post alone. Like minds and all that.

Everybody I know who owns an Xbox already plays games. The only exception is my brother, who is in no way a gamer, and he got it as a gift and only plays sport games. He has no idea what Kinect even is. Funnily enough though, he's 30 and loves Metallica.

How many "non-gamers" (i.e. most of the people they hope will buy Kinect) have an Xbox, and are willing to shell out even more money? How many gamers give a crap about Kinect?

Honestly, the thing that's funny about this is he could have almost had a point if he wasn't such a dumb ass. What an idiot.

I made the mistake of getting a 360 this generation. Since this is the way Microsoft treats its core audience I'm going to sell it and get a PS3. You'd think that the very people who made their console popular would get some credit but apparently, we're all just sweaty 30 year olds in Metallica t-shirts.

Wow...just wow Microsoft. Way to perpetuate gross and out-dated stereotypes about your core audience.
Yyyyyyessssss...

Gross and outdated...I see.

Ever been to a convention? I have, only a small one mind. And this stereotype is unfortunately completely accurate still. All we're missing is "wears trench coat regardless of weather" and it's a bullseye.
Truth be told, I'm kind of surprised at all the people here saying. "Well...I am wearing a Metallica t-shirt right now."

Somebody show me where he calls hardcore gamers "sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts". That's right, he doesn't, it's your whole us vs. them CASUALS ARE RUINING EVERYTHING mentality making it so he said that.

Sorry, but I'm 4 years older than that and wearing a KISS Destroyer T shirt, although I am sweaty since I just mowed the loawn for the final time this year.

But seriously, who cares if someone trying to shill the new Eye Toy says something derogatory about "hardcore" gamers, I mean he's the one who's going to look like an idiot playing Let's Dance and whatever other piece of crap they have for that thing in public.

that prefers to think of their consumers as herds of sheep, easily duped into giving them even more of their money.
You just described, like, every company.
Not really. Either way, the "herds of sheep" thing was just to add some spice to my spot-on accusations of "barely-legal" and "near-monopoly" business practices.
So, what do you play games on that is made by a company that doesn't see you solely as a source of income?
Ahem.

Barely-legal and near-monopoly business practices.

Microsoft has been skirting above the law for years now. Any idiot can understand that a company that makes profit is just doing it's job. What it should not do is screw over everybody else in the process. This is why monopolies are illegal. In order for the economy to thrive, there needs to be a difference between an accounting profit and the normal profit in a company in order to keep everything in check, and the prevention of barriers and heterogeneous products, which encourages a one seller market, helps keep everything regulated. Microsoft, on the other hand, does not hold these ideals in high regard and, therefore, acts as it will in this matter, resulting in the manipulation of the marginal revenue which segregates a section of the profits in the price and quantity relationship. The result is, Microsoft=$$ and a near-monopoly is created.
In all fairness, Microsoft are way more lenient than their biggest competitor in the computer market, Apple. Have you see the restrictions and hoops you have to get through to release an app on the app store, they are Nazi's! Microsoft isn't anywhere near a monopoly in any regard, they are losing the market in almost every area they are active, hence why they are creating new ones like Kinect. Sure they have a habit of charging you for every little thing, but at least they don't charge for minor updates like Apple does. Hell they gave me a copy of Windows 7 for free because I was a student. Charging me a small amount to play online is a non issue compared to that.

On a slight separate note, a shit ton of Microsoft's money is going to charity anyway so, its not too bad

Well I am sure some hard-core gamers are sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica T-Shirts...but not all of them.

It's the generalization that makes their comments stupid.

You do realize that by saying that, they are, in fact, insulting everyone who disagrees the company's new direction. They are, in fact, saying that the millions that voice their disapproval fall under the category of the "sweaty thirty-year-olds in Metallica t-shirts" stereotype. It is an unnecessary, baseless insult (like, say, calling everyone that opposes your opinion a bunch of tools) to a huge chunk of their consumers, making your argument completely void.
Lol, no, its baseless hate for a reason of promotion.
Lets pretend it was never said.
Kinect would get released.
Moms and Dads looking for family friendly gaming wouldn't buy it assuming its another tool used by the "silly gamers". Hardcore gamers don't want it because it's going to be marketed toward casual interfacing.
All I can really say is get over yourselves.
