It is a little insulting to say people will love it because of the achievements. I mean I'm a sucker for gamerscore but that's not going to persuade me to buy something that's otherwise crap.

It's fun to insult your existing customers.

Ah, the cynical executive - how easy it is to make money for you.

Doesn't really give you the idea that the guys in charge particularly care about those buying their products, if the only reason the "hardcore" will be buying is because of achievements.

And as others above have said, if the "hardcore" are only going to buy for achievements, what does that say about the quality of the games, or even the motion systems?

"Let's go back and look at the track record of the hardcore gamer," he continued.

"Shipping a console with an Ethernet port? Oh, it'll never succeed. Paying for multiplayer? Oh no, that's not good. I don't like avatars; I won't buy anything that goes to my avatar. The Wii... I mean no offence hardcore gamers, you've kinda been wrong a lot for the past ten years.
This is particularly annoying, actually.
He is labelling us together, the modest ones (aka, we dont complain about everything under the sun), with the loud mouths who don't have any idea what an opinion is.

Lets see, who would complain about the ethernet port idea?
-Perhaps someone afraid of the internet hackers taking over their xboxes in weird ways.

Paying for multi player?
-Guess what, I enjoy my live and have never complained about it, and if it runs out, i play with friends on split screen and that's technically free. I am sure the ones who complain are the ones who get their parents to buy it for them and when they refuse they get pissed. (sorry if that is a bit blanket, i am a bit tired.)

I dont like avatars?
-Actually, I dont mind them, just as a subtle distraction everyone once in a while. Though i am yet to see them be utilised properly (guitar hero 5 was good, but the avatars style didn't fit the game, they should have it that the avatar becomes in the style of the game through some conversion method, that would be cool)

I wont buy anything for my avatar?
- Guess what? i haven't. Not one penny, i have the monitor from halo and a suit on my guy (inspired by Barney from "how i met your mother") and thats it. You can get songs from rock band for the cost of paid virtual clothes. (And thats where it has gone, rock band)

The wii....
- I admit, i was wrong about the wii.
Just not in the way he means. As i was the first one in line to get one and had it on launch with Twilight princess. It was awesome, but then when wii sports has just devolved into wrist flicking it become dull and tedious. The games were always at a high price (brawl, Corruption, galaxy and such) were always $80AU where i lived.
Eventually, on the 3rd anniversary of buying the console, i traded it in for a PS3 with all but one of my games. (Twilight princess, i loved it too much) The games i traded in were SSBB, Corruption and Galaxy.
The value for the wii was that it served no real purpose other than being a gamecube. Now, the PS3 that replaces it is used as much as the 360 that sits beside it, for various different things than just games.

/rant

Ehh, i think i am just too tired and am giving this too much thought.. I think i just get riled up from arrogant statements like that.

I concede that achievement whores will no doubt play Kinect games just for achievements.

And I bought something for my avatar...I bought a Sazh t-shirt. Because Sazh is awesome.

But who the fuck COMPLAINED about Ethernet ports?
I never heard anyone complain about them either...I'm pretty sure he just made that up.
Also yes. Yes, Sazh is awesome!

So a smart idea to get more money is to alienate your primary fanbase with casual games instead of with new halos or some other violent games.

I guess they point out that hardcore gamer definition of hardcore gamers is a little blurry. It appears they suggest it's someone who's playing 24/7, is an absolute drop-out. The problem is... it's a definition for an idiot, to the point of sickness, modern age kid, who's hanging on parent's necks, so to speak. This is a little... too far from a hardcore gamer.

I know a few hardcore gamers. They've got a life. The least thing they need is an another console. They usually stick to one game for 5-10 years and master it to the point Microsoft can suck their balls; they won't buy a new gimmick.

Someone... nuke that idiot to stone age. He doesn't deserve to exist.

pc users do not pay for mutiplayer, if anyone would balk at it would be us that have had free multiplayer games for years before xbox even existed. nevermind how we wouuld be skeptical paying for voice chat etc etc.

ethernet tho? i must have been asleep the year that was a raging torrent of debate.

the wii sold to families, it was cheap it was different and it was in stock when the ps3 was short shipped for launch...yet again.....so many people waked out that month with wiis instead of ps3s (bravo sony).

kinetix or wth ever they want to call it will cost like 50 bucks less than a brand new wii that comes with free games. and a wii that already is in the homes of many families, so why in gods green earth would they be possessed to pay for a add on to the console that is probably in their teenagers bedroom and why would any teenager want to drag it down to the living room so they can act like a idiot with their family? or even more bizarre situation where they would pay 350 dollars to buy a xbox slim and a kinetix, while a wii is sitting right next it it in the isle.

and few hardcore gamers have spoken kindly about this whole venture, neither have critics that seem to point out on every preview of these things that they are not accurate that they are easily fooled and they just do not work that great?

i call the marketing department at microsoft idiots on this one.

From what he said there, the hardcore gamers are talking less about the success of something and more about how shit it will be. The fact they can still cram shit down the casual gamers' throats and still have them smile is a skill none of us are refuting!

If I buy it, it wont be for the games, it will be so I can be a lazy ass on my couch and not have to use the remote to flip through shit on netflix etc. I bought a wii and when the novelty wore off I sold it.

as to it's success, only time will tell.

The things in the past we've "been wrong about" were relatively minor things, it's much like saying "they dismissed our new candy wrappers as looking silly, but still ate the candy, clearly the wrapper wasn't that bad".
People want to eat the candy enough that they'll ignore the shitty pink and neon green wrapping it comes in.

I don't know how many people are going to buy a machine that puts the chocolate bar on a stick and makes you run and jump to get it...

How teh fook can we be wrong about what we want?

This isn't a matter of what will be a success for Microsoft, this is about what we, as gamers, want.

Personally, I don't want any motion controls AT ALL.

If you guys don't want them either, then I'd say that Major Nelshit can stick his dick in his ear and eat the wax, because he's talking nonsense.

So far I've barely used an ethernet port on any console. The only time I did was for Xbox live while it was free.
I won't pay for multiplayer. Period.
Avatars are ok, but I haven't - and never will buy anything for them, that's just stupid.
And, no, I don't have a wii because it really doesn't have any games, and I don't really have people coming round who would play it.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Toulouse.

I think the age of hardcore gamers is dying, and the age of casual/kid-with-money is starting. Oh well.

I class myself as hardcore because I play lots and lots of games. I don't achievment hunt or do any of that online-whatchamacallit, but I've been playing games forever and they are a moajor part of my life.

But I have to say, I will definately, at some point, be purchasing a Kinect. Things change man. take a look at film; Citizen Kane, Avatar. Art forms develop and it's nothing to be afraid of!

Plus, I'm Fable-crazy!

For starters? (No offense to anyone buying it.) People who get thier parents guardians or etc. to get it for them (Price is no object if you don't have to front the cash yourself and never had to earn money before.) Others might get it as a gift when someone went shopping for a present for them and by-pass the entry fee into kinect. Then others will get it by other means and some might even lie about it and say they didn't want to buy it but didn't wanna sell it without trying it.

I have little interest in kinect and I doubt I will ever buy it. I may play it if someone I know gets it for their 360.

Wait... people buy games just for the achievements? Just for "Gamerscore"?

Ugh.

Aside from that, I think he has a point. At least partly.
