I have always played in peaceful mode. I'm there for the building aspect. I took a look at the new Creative mode and it looks like it gives me infinite building blocks. That's pointless to me because half the fun is mining the blocks to build with.

Of course, I could be wrong, I only looked at it briefly and then shut it off. Am I wrong, is the old peaceful mode still there?

Not enjoying it; I can't seem to keep the game going for more than 2-3 minutes at a time now before it crashes from running out of memory.

For folks who are seeing reduced framerates: It seems to me that the game relies much more heavily on the graphics card now than it used to. This may be a cause.

I do not like Endermen. Though it's hilarious when some skeleton nails one trying to take a shot at me. Loving the chasms- it seems they literally go on for miles. The new lighting system is also a nice touch; the gentle flicker of torches is actually kind of soothing.

I'm enjoying it a lot, though I will pitch another vote into the 'not really liking the hunger system so much' hat.

Well, that's not strictly true, i actually like it better than the old instant health restore system, but it's still a nuisance.

My wife and I found our first Endless Abyssal Cleft In The Earth last night. By 'accident'. Near as we can figure, the easiest way out is dirt ladder, but we haven't come close to exploring the whole place yet. We've named it Moria and have advertised on Cragslist for a Balrog.

Endermen are ridiculously creepy, but less so when you realize they don't really attack you unless you hit them (or apparently if you are holding Ender pearls).

I love the new smoothstone bricks, the giant mushrooms, the higher spawn rates on clay, the giant mushrooms, the vines, the giant mushrooms, the new lighting and the giant fucking mushrooms.

We've discovered that a stack of redshrooms and a stack of bonemeal equals effectively infinite emergency shelter. Knock out the stem and stuff dirt in the crack at the bottom and you have a perfect 3x3x3 room. (I'm currently trying to recreate Smurf Village in Moria.)

Haven;t located a village or a stronghold yet, still searching.

I'm very pleased with the update, on the whole. I get frustrated at the high incidence of low memory crashes because Java flat out sucks, but apart from this, really satisfied.

I found a 40-10 y-depth stronghold/mine with a ravine going through it.

I have been trapped underground for 2 days with all the skeletal archers and endermen, because I can't find the way I came in. I suppose i could just pillar up, but I'm afraid I'll go through lava

dig into a wall and seal it; place solid blocks next to your pick, then dig stairs in a spiral upwards without digging directly over your head; if you see sudden orange light, its lava and immediately place a block to stop the lava flow, then dig sideways a ways then keep going up. That should get out out as long as you keep an eye open for that lava.

Just started a new world. I spawned in between a desert and forest biome that's also on the edge of a big lake or ocean. I decided to go into the desert biome, few minutes later I come across a small npc village with some wheat already growing and such. It's rather nice, though I probably won't use it for long.

I created myself a server and I'm enjoying it about the same as I ever have Minecraft.. it was nice to spawn beside an NPC village however, I just took it over as my home.

Void Fog is atrocious, the whole Zelda/Oblivion direction the entire game is heading for is terrible

but flying is pure bliss and while still buggy the new lighting looks great

it's literally the most mixed bag I ever had in gaming

I like it. Mostly. I've yet to stumble on an NPC Village or a Stronghold, but I've built a house in a ravine intersection which is pretty cool. The hunger bar is an annoyance that nobody needed, especially cause my world bugged out and 95% of spawning mobs are sheep. So many sheep. So I renamed my world New New Zealand.

So I'm curious, is the food bar purely for healing when you are above 80% or are there negative effects for starving yourself as well?

Under i think 50% fed, you can't run;
As your hunger goes under 50% you also start to lose health.
At 0% fed, your health will drop to 5 hearts on Easy, 1/2 heart on Normal, I believe you can starve to death on Hard.

1.8 dropped and I can't log into my Minecraft account to play online or do the download, has anyone else had that problem?

It´s okay, my only complaint would be food, it´s way to easy to survive now, even on hard. Since I auto recover 1/2 a heart every couple of seconds as long as I got ~80% in food. I would much rather have it the old way, eat food gain HP!just that they added so when you eat food you also gain a bit in the hunger bar.

Oh and the NPC villages path/floors are really ugly/clumpy. Also server hosting is laggy as hell for me, even on my server that I hosted from my home I lagged on(even was on the same computer that I played on).

Try downloading the new launcher from the site, if that doesn't work, there was a script command in one of these 1.8 threads somewhere.

I'm quite liking what I've played of it. My computer isn't very Minecraft friendly, so I'm trying to optimize it... and failing miserably, but I like the changes I've seen.

Like being chased by a Creeper in a village and jumping down a well to escape. That was fun!

The only thing about 1.8 that i'm currently not enjoying is that none of my mods work. Other than that, Notch has outdone himself with this one. The new items you can craft, the new animations, the new mobs, everything just adds more and more substance to the game. Keep up the good work Notch!

I haven't touched it much yet, since it's not "complete". IE, it doesn't have animal breeding, bosses,Snow biomes (apparently) or NPCs in the villages yet.

However, I will say that I REALLY enjoy the new creative mode. THAT is useful if you want to just straight up build somthing nice to look at. I'm gonna try to recreate the Bastion in minecraft when I have the time.
