Minecraft: Has anyone else lost the "Thrill" of it?

Definitely. It bores me to no end these days, I've just lost all incentive to do stuff.

Super Meat Boy, on the other hand... I clocked it last night and still want more. I have a bad love for that game.

It's fun when playing on the multiplayer server and seeing my ideas work but recently I just can't be bothered.

Its lost its spark for me too. if they would add many many more minerals to mine for it would greatly help, i think. also if i were to setup my own server, i think that would bring back some fun. i need to play the game a different way to enjoy it again.

I get indifferent about Minecraft every so often, like I do with every other game. I leave it alone for a bit then come back when the mood hits me again. The thrill will never be quite as it was the first few weeks, but I still have fun with it.

Single player is boring, I don't see the point of it. I only play multiplayer where there is a story or something that I can play out.

It lost the thrill for me when I realised that the monsters died easily and carrying enough torches pretty much negated any threat the game could offer.

That said, since I play without the music, the piano soundtrack brings back a rush of nostalgia. It's odd, because I haven't even been playing it for a year yet.

Honestly, I like the game but it got boring really fast. Extremely repetitive, after awhile when I ran out of ideas for buildings, I stopped playing and I never have had the urge to pick it up again.

When I ran out of ideas, yeah... besides building, there isn't much to do... at least they are putting practical stuff in it again (music boxes are pretty pointless unless in a practical sense)...

Serious OT Paragraph: Yeah, Minecraft became boring to me after four months of playing. Everything felt so repetitive with absolutely no purpose at all. Then comes along Terraria, a game that has purpose and is about x1,000 better because of it. Yeah, you can say there's an "End" to Terraria, but reaching that end is better and more satisfying than endlessly doing random things in Minecraft.

I still enjoy Minecraft....proper mods and SSP is pretty amusing...Ive lost so many maps trying to mod that I dont think Ill ever be as thrilled as I was long ago...and Ive learned a lot of things too.

I hardly play SMP because most of the servers are filled with crybabies that beg for shit and want them to turn the sun on because they dont want to fight thru the night. It gets boring and bullshitty real quick when your playing preping for the night and everything suddenly becomes day again.

We had a SMP server but the jackass that owned it thru a fit didnt pay and we lost it.

Minecraft does have a massive leg-up on Terraria tho....It takes those people longer to get out 1.0.6 then it has waiting for Notch to update Minecraft.

Not really. After you dig multiple shafts down to bedrock and create a castle with walls and towers made of pure lava, there really isn't much else to do.

I lost my thrill a long time ago. So does many which results in adding mods. But further reasons for modding is simply how once you enter the Minecraft world the sense of freedom, the possibilities out there with everything breakable and stack able (well most things) was amazing. But of course the other half was about digging deeper and finding treasures or dangers.

But once you understand the mechanics, realize the limitations and have little direction it gets stagnant. It comes down to complete self motivation and goals in what to build or simply do. Games that are not linear need a large variety of directions to pursue with multiple outcomes. Personally I am wanting for A.I. and better furniture interaction but once you explore that, you will only land on their limitations.

A game can only do so much.

I dont know if its just me but when I bought Minecraft Alpha and loaded up a new world, I was just so excited, with all the music playing in and the cows and sheep, I was constantly on the Minecraft forum looking up recipes and stuff to do on youtube, 6 months later, I am still a huge minecraft fan, with my first house securely in a museum I buiilt around it. I only just realised that I always have to music off beacause I plan out designs and stuff with guys on skype. The cows and sheep being grinded into materials, and all the Forests and mountains either settled on or Gone, I sort of get the spark back every time a patch comes out, but now my Question: Do you feel the same when playing Minecraft as you did on your First Day?

I feel kinda like that. I spent nearly six months (maybe more) on my first world. It didn't even have biomes yet. And I didn't even have all that much, just a super nice little island cabin with guest house, and a few little extras.

Recently, I started a new world, and it felt kinda similar...but it also felt like I was missing something. Then I got a virus, and lost minecraft for a while. And now 1.8 is coming out.

So I'm waiting for 1.8 to hit, and then I'll start a new world. I've been waiting on ruins and villages since I got the game.

Why are you stuck in SP?
Yeah, I did pretty quickly. My dad still finds plenty of enjoyment in it though.

It doesn't really last if you are only playing by yourself. Once you achieve that grand project you set for yourself, the will to play it dies away - especially once you've seen every type of block and gone to every type of biome and interacted with every type of creature.

If I had friends to play Multiplayer with, maybe I'd find it more engaging. I definitely don't regret the 10 dollars I spent (I got a lot more than 10 hours of time from Minecraft), but at the same time..... I really don't play it anymore. It needs new blocks and new mechanics. I would really like to be able to paint stone and build real cannons - not the makeshift cannons that break apart when you use them. I would also like to see better combat, automatic doors, vaults, communication stones and a more reliable way of transport/teleportation other than "Run like hell through the Slip and hope you get to where you want".

Minecraft was a wild ride, but I've seen everything it can offer me (that I'm willing to do. I'm not willing to built 3D printers or Computers in it). Now it just needs.... more.

Just the other day I built myself a subway that spanned 2 and a half maps, had to spawn in materials to keep my sanity. By the end of it I couldn't help but ask myself what the point of it all was.
