Here is my entire game play of minecraft. Dug a 4 wide trench 2 down and repeated that 9 or 10 times ran back outside, punched a tree down then left never to play again.

Of course that was the free version but to be honest the paid for version isn't much better.

I bought the humble bundle so I can play it till the 14th (I think) but it's not for me.

I am also sick of it popping up on youtube, every game person I sub to is uploading the friggin' thing! There's only so many houses, castles and mines being mined I can watch and I hit that limit a month ago.

This has led me to play a new game, it's like whack a mole but with vids in my sub box of minecraft.

Looking forward to the hype dieing down over this lego kit.

I really enjoyed it, until I started seeing all the amazing things people were building and I was like...damn I can't do that. So I got bored and stopped playing.

Of course not, but my first day was largely of confusion. When I started there was no redstone, and the most exciting thing you could make was minecarts.

I think one of the most exciting aspects of Minecraft is that it's always* being updated.

Like any action which involves creating things, it's entirely possible for a person to become disenchanted with it when they become uninspired (for example, writer's block is when writers don't know how to continue. At that point creativity stalls and interest is lost. Like any other form of expression where a work is created, Minecraft has this issue.

The best way to become inspired is to leave it for a time, in which you may get an idea, have a notable experience, or otherwise have another subject to express yourself with. However, make sure to come back eventually.

For example, I enjoy writing music, however Thursday was the first time in the previous month that I even thought of anything music-related.

All in all, I don't think the problem is Minecraft itself, but just a little creative slump. Just enjoy life, then you'll think of something. ;)

Games get boring. Sometimes after an hour, sometimes after a hundred hours. That doesn't make a game better or worse, just different in intent, and in how it interacts with your play style. Minecraft has a very high replayability, so I say give it a break for a few months, and come back to a couple of new updates. If you still don't want to after hearing about all the new updates, take the money you spent, and divide it by the hours you played Minecraft. Look at the resulting figure of how much you spent per hour, and then grin like an idiot.

That initial, 'this, is, EPIC.' has worn down. But i still have ideas flowing in. At the moment my projects are to re-create the Tower of Owen (FFIII), Make my own floating island, and make a good quallity mono rail system, with working stops. Otherwise look at mods, there are some that really add on the fun of minecraft, without being too over the top.

I have never had a thrill over it. I was bored with it just from playing 2 evenings. I am glad the Humble Bundle came with a demo so I could find this out without wasting money on it.
Wait what ?

I wasted money on this (got bored in roughly the same amount of time) and bought it instead of game dlc. How did you try it for free ? I thought wih the indie bundle you still bought the game.
It is a free demo with the bundle, it ends on the 14th. I won't miss it.
I ended up setting another PC up to play as a Minecraft server so I could basically play legos with a few friends. We are all ops so we can pull all the pieces we want with commands and even that is getting boring.

I've almost completely lost interest in the vanilla version of it. I built a tower, a castle, an adding machine, a mob spawning tower, and a palace. And that was enough.

With mods, though, the kinds of things it's possible to build expands exponentially. I've got Logic Gates, Buildcraft, Industrial Craft, and a host of others. And they all update pretty much all the time, so there's always something new to try or look at. The lifetime of this game has been enormously expanded by the modders. I doubt we'd still be talking about it without them.

I can understand how people have soured on the thing. It seems like hardly a day goes by around here where "New Thing Made in Minecraft!" isn't being touted on the front page.

Yeah it feels like I've done everything I can with it. Worlds with chests filled with loot, worlds with impressive structures I've built, worlds destroyed by TNT, various mods ands cheats tested.

Here's my rule. Once you've rode a pig, Minecraft we'll never be as fun again.

I have. I am really jealous of all these people having fun in SMP servers with their friends and building awesome communities.

I'm stuck in singleplayer and it's boring as shit.
Why are you stuck in SP?
Yeah, I did pretty quickly. My dad still finds plenty of enjoyment in it though.
Because I don't have any friends to play with

Yeah, it's lost its appeal to me for a few weeks now. I just don't have anythng I want to do on it. Waiting for the adventure update..if that ever comes out.

Yeah, I've probably got close to 150 hours racked up on it, across several worlds, but I just don't really have anything left to build. I mean, I could make yet another castle, but I've already done that. (Including one made entirely of pink wool)

I played it a couple of weeks, then I deleted it. Built a giant bridge in the air that leads everywhere and a diamond dick, because gold is for chumps. After that it got incredibly boring.

I don't play Minecraft anymore. I hope the adventure update changes that, but I just lost enthusiasm for it.
I kind of wanted to build an awesome base with pistons. Something that looks like flat land until I push a button then becomes a huge castle, but the complexity of the wiring for that would insane, if even possible.

Also harvesting materials becomes a drag. After strip mining nearby peninsulas to get sand for a glass light house, and mining to the bottom of the earth, turning it into lava-hell and putting in a portal, I just can't get myself to do any more harvesting.
Also fixing the water elevator glitch means I now have to walk from the bottom of my dominion to the skybox.

I got the game played it with a smile on my face because it was new and fun got all the items in the game and built all I wanted to build I stopped playing because there was nothing else to do, and every time an update comes I play for five seconds to see the new stuff then I wait a few days for mods, I play the mods do see the new things that the mod adds to the game get bored and cry because I wasted my money.

Now I've totally lost the Minecraft vibe. I don't even bother checking the new updates really, I'm just going to wait until it's 'finished' and then maybe get into it again.

The spark is most definetly gone, I played it today for the first time in about a week, I just blew up some terrain, for no real reason. I'm not all excited to build anything like I was before. But I think with the 1.8 update, I'll probably get hooked again.

I don't play it for the thrill. Minecraft is one of the most relaxing games I know.
