Wow. I'm a firm Christian, but I really dislike the people of my religion who give us a bad name. Namely, people like this. It gets annoying. I know there are christians like me who want some of the more "Out There" believers, and I know that they want to do something. What, I have yet to figure out.
God wants us to believe in him, but live normal lives. He doesn't want us to devote every single second of the day to him, but to recognize his existence, go to church, and pray. A bit further than that is fine, but there's a bit extra and there's overkill. Overkill is bad. Overkill is Fred Phelps. Overkill is people who try to develop symbolism in simple, fun games like this.
C'mon people, really?
Those bastards are really raising the curve, huh?

(Not mocking you, just thought it was funny. =])

EDIT: Reading through other things on the site, I'm increasingly sure that the whole site is a parody, albeit a well-constructed and spot-on one.
It took me a minute but I have come to the conclusion that they are in fact very serious.

They were in fact using Minecraft as an allegory. I must say from a cursory glance at the website they are only far-right, but not extremist, they do feel threatened by the perceived "War on Christians", that I just call "War on everyone not an Atheist, and Christians are just the easiest target in the US" (I know it is long).

I can not say I fully agree with them but I do support them as long as they continue to live as Christians should. (though if you say they are not Christians, I will need proof)

I would disagree, they are not as bad as (read with contempt)him(/contempt). They are just a little on the on the sane side of extreme. Phelps is contemptable in his action to the point of driving away Christian. Objective Ministries (parent of zounds youth ministry) is just a bit overzealous. They are not yet hateful. I have seen groups become moderate after reaching this stage, I hope that is what will happen here.

Minecraft? Christianity?

Oh please. The game is clearly about the new religion of Minecraftianity. Our beloved leader Notch knows and creates all. We create things in the world he has created. We are lesser Gods to our one God.

I'a Notch Fhtagn.

Or something.

That is really funny. Thank you for making my day. I always did think of tetris as a communist socialist atheist pro-obama anti-american game. It was made by a Russian.

The massive pit of lava I use to dispose of assorted pigs cows and enemies underneath the giant Pentagram where I have my portal to Hell begs to differ..

What am I suppose to think? Only Notch himself knows.
Should we nail Notch to some planks and see what happens?
Goodness no, then we'll never get the Hell portals or SMP fixed.

Personally I think Minecraft is Christian simply because every time I hear a creeper I scream "JESUS CHRIST!" and then fumble for my sword while I run like a madman. It's like the Crusades! In a mine!

I never recall giving any of that 'medicine'. So therefore, they are not giving me 'my own medicine' but have confused me with the misguided ones that do. So I ask kindly, do not paint us with the same brush.

As a Christian, all I can do is laugh. That site is full of shit, and this is definitely the cream of the crop.
Is making a large sweeping judgment part of turning the other cheek? Even when it's been established that it's a troll post?
Um, an opinion is an opinion? I'm not really getting what you're going for here...

HERETIC!

My first reaction to this was that, although up to par with fundamentalist christian absurdity, it just cannot be true. And what do you know, for once I was actually right.

Minecraft is actually a Freudian allegory for deflowering a woman. The virgin world is huge and mysterious, waiting for the Man to explore her caverns and reap the rewards. Of course, the Man brings with him his own guilty past. The Creepers represent the destruction of STDs, the Skeletons are jealous ex-lovers, and the Spiders are his self-doubt of his own sexual prowess. Thus, the Man must dominate the woman's world and bring in his own masculinity through the torches of male enlightenment and giant penis-shaped towers.
See, I can make shit up too!
Nonsense!

Minecraft represents the rape of the land and the plight of the native peoples of the world in the face of an unstoppable, undying, constantly respawning, force of nature hellbent on harnessing all available raw materials for its own ends. It even opens holes at sea.

The skeletons represent the oppressed spirits of the native peoples; the spiders represent the nature of the land fighting a losing war; and the zombies represent a reflection the crafter's own rotten spirit.

The fact that everything is blocky represents the obvious fact that Notch had ass ache, an obviously obvious consequence of programming for hours on end.

It's an interesting read (though I don't think anyone should take it too seriously). I view minecraft as more the experience of being self-reliant/the ability to conquer and shape nature to fit your goals. Both of those have possibly deep subtext, but ultimately I think such close reading is really more of an intellectual exercise. If this is real (and I have some doubts) it at least shows that games are an art form as they can be subjective based on what values the player comes with.

Either way, all this may change with the inevitable multiplayer update, so it matters little how you read it now.

Also- Notch has come on record stating that he wanted the game to have no ties to religious ideology (which is why he renamed the "Hell" region), so any Christian subtext was probably an accident on his part.

ohmyohmy, that was a hilarious site. Why are so many people not getting that IT'S A PARODY!!!

look at these excepts:

Unlike other demons, creepers can survive sunlight without burning, teaching the player the value of putting on the Full Armor of God in order to engage demonic powers (Ephesians 6:10-18).

Also, the only animals in the game you can kill for food are pigs. This emphasizes the New Covenant with Jesus where we can now eat delicious ham -- a common ground we share with most Secularized people.

Another new Biblical feature is a fishing minigame (Luke 5:1-11),

How are ANY of these to be construed seriously??? Just laugh.

Unfortunately, no, this is not a parody. There is a definite subsection (albeit an enormously thick one) in the American religious right that claims that school shooting is "directly the result of government fat cats taking Jesus out of schools."

This despite the fact that not everyone in America was Christian to begin with, school-based violence has been going on for ever, and is actually on the decline.

However, this is neither here nor there...
