ToMAYto, toMAHto. He referred to HF2 ep. 1-2 as HL3 interchangeably. They can put out an announcement about how Half-Life is done if they damn well pleased. Unless Gabe has a gun put to his head, he is under no obligation to release installments every X years, or even release them at all.Gralian said:I see, and is it unrealistic to expect episodic content to be released with any slight degree of frequency? They never said "we dropped the episodes in favour of a full blown sequel in the next five years". We are still waiting on episode 3 here, not half life 3. Episodic content should not take this long.
People are going to buy any old thing Valve throws out by the millions, whether it's immaculate or shit. They have plenty sources of income.I would have thought it was important to actually listen to fans in order to give them what they want, especially if they are in the millions. I thought that was considered good business management. Ignoring them and following your own designs seems a little egotistical and questionable in my humble opinion.
You had to pay for Minecraft's Beta...And many companies don't Beta test because they have hundred man teams which simply test the game for hours on end. Alpha testing is important, and no company would release a game without any testing. The problem is the variety of systems in existence and the complexity of the programs: Catching a bug that happens every single time you do a series of common events is simple. Catching a bug which never appears in the same place twice, or comes about from an incredibly specific and ultimately improbable series of events is extremely difficult. The reason many games seem to be bug ridden nowadays is a combination of several factors: Devs trying to push out more games in shorter time-frames, much more complex coding, the sheer number of players playing the game and reporting the bugs, and the lack of players reporting a lack of bugs. Very few people are going to post in forums telling folks they never encountered a bug. It would also be impossible for a dev to hire enough folks to test their product as thoroughly as a Beta would. Betas bring their own problems, however.Enslave_All_Elves said:Well I did make a skull mountain with lava pouring out of its face holes. I did build canals for farms and transport. I did build water elevators to my floating sky fortress (to the ladders anyways). I did blow up cows while dressed as Frank Castle. Speaking of which I should make a floating lava spewing skull fortres... as Frank Castle. I am free to build whatever I want instead of being merely satisfied with a game environment.
Is it fun? Only if you don't expect entertainment forced into your brain with a drill.
Is it the best game evarrrr? NO.
Are they good developers? Hell yeah. I pity the future of games if they keep striving to emulate the moronic movie industry. At least Mojang did something original and provided good support for players. Bashing them would be like complaining about a kickass employee at work. Hell, some companies don't even beta test before they shovel glitchy bug infested turds on the shelf so fans can spend a few weeks doing their jobs for them. I refuse to pick bugs out your poo that I paid for.
Mojang aren't the best developer this year. Their game was released in 2009. Their only game. It doesn't count for this year at all. Or last year.Romblen said:For the most part, we are not voting on "Best developer ever" We are voting on "Best developer this year."
I imagine a year or two from now after the Minecraft craze has dulled somewhat, Mojang won't get close to winning.
There's a difference between liking a game more and considering Mojang the best developer ever for a single game released in 2009.Snotnarok said:I'm tired of these threads where people get so upset that something is popular or more popular than what they like.
This just happened to me when I called Darksiders "Darksiders: Zelda Evolved" I got "You can't be serious Zelda is better" and I disagree, I personally hate Zelda. I've played most of them and I've yet to like one to play through.
But how dare I find a game more appealing than Zelda or Mario! It's an opinion.
Yes. It's better than any Mario game of the past few years.Eri said:Apparently that's what most people here seem to think if the voting is any indication.
Minecraft is better than Mario
Yes.Eri said:Pokemon
Mass Effect came out in 2007 and was ME2 that much better?Eri said:Mass Effect
2009. The sequel is considered a step down.Eri said:Dragon Age
So could I.Eri said:Half Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3/NV, Resident Evil, Team Fortress, Elder Scrolls, Borderlands, The witcher, and oh god I could just go on and on.
No. They had sequels. (Except for Borderlands.)Eri said:Sure you could almost apply this to any dev that's winning or won March Mayhem, but the point here is that they had games.
That is true, but Minecraft is at what I'm guessing to be the height of its popularity. Not to mention it gets a lot of updates. My point is that Mojang is winning to due the popularity of its recent game. Bioware on the other hand has not realeased anything that is as popular as it is now. For the record, I love both developers, I can just see why Mojang is winning right now.Trolldor said:Mojang aren't the best developer this year. Their game was released in 2009. Their only game. Just because the game isn't going to be abandoned doesn't mean its not a clone You cant compare games based on development stages........if that were the case then literally everything is a clone like you said, in some aspects it takes a lot from Infiniminer.....so you could consider it a clone because most things are the same......the only differences being Infiniminer being team based most of the game, and in Minecraft its hey! go do what ever you want........In all fairness the game is great, original and its really fun. But This March Madness is about the Best Delveloper.......And in that regard Valve has a great history of games and catering to there fan base. Of course this is my opinionGralian said:March Mayhem is more of an innovation award than anything else. People are fickle and always cry foul when something is labeled as generic - oh look a military FPS, Call of Duty clone. Chest high walls? Gears of War clone. Third person combat? God of War clone. Platformer? Mario clone. Everything is a clone of something else.
But not Minecraft. It's a clone of nothing (and don't say Infiniminer, it was never completed and abandoned. Minecraft isn't complete, but it's not going to be abandoned is it?) and the way it succeeded purely through word of mouth is nothing short of phenomenal when you look at all the money put into heavy ad campaigns that feel cheap and fall flat on their face. Looking at you, EA. It's not hard to see why people love Mojang.
