Minecraft is better than any game/series ever?

For the most part, we are not voting on "Best developer ever" We are voting on "Best developer this year."

I imagine a year or two from now after the Minecraft craze has dulled somewhat, Mojang won't get close to winning.

Mojang aren't the best developer this year. Their game was released in 2009. Their only game. It doesn't count for this year at all. Or last year.

That is true, but Minecraft is at what I'm guessing to be the height of its popularity. Not to mention it gets a lot of updates. My point is that Mojang is winning to due the popularity of its recent game. Bioware on the other hand has not realeased anything that is as popular as it is now. For the record, I love both developers, I can just see why Mojang is winning right now.

Mojang is winning undeservedly. This is not 'best game', this is a Dev showdown, and voting Mojang up is just sad considering how little they've actually accomplished.

This just happened to me when I called Darksiders "Darksiders: Zelda Evolved" I got "You can't be serious Zelda is better" and I disagree, I personally hate Zelda. I've played most of them and I've yet to like one to play through.

But how dare I find a game more appealing than Zelda or Mario! It's an opinion.

There's a difference between liking a game more and considering Mojang the best developer ever for a single game released in 2009.

So basically you're saying that someones opinion is wrong if they like Mojang more than Valve? The game wasn't released in 09 either, it's still yet to get out of beta.

1 Guy got the game going very far and now he's got like 3 people in his company. It's very impressive and he's had everyone talking about his game. Even VALVE admitted Minecraft swept their offices, the game is big. I don't even consider it best game but I think it's god damn impressive.

Can we just stop the minecraft bashing? Sorry to derail, but by complaining, or over-praising this, how are we any better than any kind of extremest? We're just as bad as those religious or political nut cases who spew crap about their side of the arguement when we do this.

I voted for minecraft because I like the game, and could care less about any other reason, it was on a whim. By next year I'll probably be voting for something else. *shrug*

I think people are just trolling the concept at this point.

I stopped voting for them back at Nintendo, but they got trolled. Didn't vote for them when they were up against valve, Valve got trolled too.

I actually voted for Mojang over Bioware though just because I thought it would be funny to have one developer's half finished game be considered better than everyone elses' stuff. Also Bioware being first loser for a third year in a row, apparently.

2. MM is about Devs, not a single game. Mojang has to be assessed on its quality as a Developer, which is unremarkable. It hasn't introduced anything new or revolutionary to the market.

Okay so I guess all those games that put out buggy betas should be judged on that and solely that because that's when the game was put on the market, whether or not it's finished and it should be judged as a final product.

I'm gonna go ahead and say it, you're telling people they're wrong for having an opinion on what they liked best. And that's wrong in itself.

And MM is about the developers? Oh well then I can't really name many games that 1 guy made the game, he's been approached by several companies (including Valve) with job opportunities. Instead he stayed solo and has made a game that many love and made MILLIONS by himself and has expanded his company. This is with a game that's not even finished yet mind you. That's beyond impressive.

Keep in mind, I voted Bioware but I'm not gonna say what Mojang did wasn't impressive in the least. If you disagree then well you're apparently in the minority.

When comparing the companies games for this year only, I can see Mojang beating them. And as far as beating big name titles this year, they were either remakes or they didn't have much support behind them to start. Minecraft is constantly changing and Notch is taking in considerations from his players and trying to fit their needs or wants. Other games do what they have planned and when they find a flaw, they fix it the next game around. Minecraft is always changing, therefore, making it more interactive and more enjoyable.

Between the dozens of lego sims developed as some guy's coding project and the dozens of roguelikes developed by small teams around the internet, there is nothing in Minecraft that wasn't done at least 10 years ago.

I guess it did introduce something new to the market though, I didn't have to pay a dime to play any of those other games.

Heh, in my bracket, Volition won just because of Freespace 2 and Saint's Row. I considered giving the Minecraft-guys a vote, but to be perfectly honest, the moron-content of their community associated with people like me asking for ways to mod out spiders has discouraged me.
