Seriously, there has to be a better, easier way to find out whether something is dangerous than by just assuming it is and blowing it up.
I know a guy who left his backpack in the Sistine Chapel by accident. He realized he left his PSP in it and went back for it, and it was still on the bench, where he left it... surrounded by security, ready to blow it up.
How did it end? Did he get his PSP back in one Piece? Did he get arrested?

If the entirety of the robot was made from a plastic explosive, than it could maybe explode and take a small fraction of the pillar off. If it is filled with an explosive than it has enough oomph to maybe make a whole in 1 person. In the end, the size itself does not seem to feel like it could do any dmg. I will say that using a Holiday based item is far less conspicuous as an explosive than that toy did.

Shows you the level of moronic paranoia in America today. First the Adult Swim PR problems with a little neon Err sign, and now this. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find out that this robot was just a plushie.

Good to know that the people being paid with our tax dollars are completely out of the loop with modern society and have no common sense.
As I said, disguising explosives as toys and other foreign objects is an unfortunately real occurrence. The idea behind that of course being that you can get someone (apparently normally a child) to pick it up so you can kill them with it. I wouldn't say it's being 'out of the loop' or 'paranoid' so much as 'knowing a fuck of a lot more about bombing than people who only ever see videogame violence'.
So all one has to do to get the attention of a bomb squad is buy a toy and leave it looking sinisterly in the middle of the street? Oh and add a bit of cement to the mix? Are you aware of how easy that makes it for someone to make a diversion and make sure they don't react to a real bombing situation?

So what exactly is the difference between a random dropped toy on the street (which is what you'd really do if you want a random kid to pick up the thing, rather than cementing it into a wall) and this? Or does bomb squad equate city cleaning service over there? :)

I blame the DHS. It shouldn't exist.

Okay, this is the most absurd news story of the day. I mean, the week. Errr, let's say the whole month.

I don't really know what happened exactly, but I remember him telling me that the security chief got mad, but he eventually got his backpack back.

* clap clap * good job media paranoia, people can't even put in possible street art installations without people shitting themselves. Oh No a toy robot that could be filled with enough explosives to startle a newt. I mean the person who did it can't come forward now because they will lynch them for making them look like tossers and wasting everyone's time.

Unless this was some sort of fun afternoon game. Glue a toy you get at a dollar store against a pillar across the street from a starbucks and sip a large caramel machiato while the world spazzes out like a dog hearing the floor squeak.
