Jesus fucking christ.

The offended people are overreacting. She didn't ever bash on the homosexuals. She simply stated her OPINION on the matter in a polite and mature manner. She's not to blame until she becomes a dictator and forces her opinions down everyone's throat.

Most importantly: What ever happened to freedom of speech?

Anyway, I will answer this with a quote from Evelyn Beatrice Hall and Voltaire; "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death you're right to say it." She can say what she wants. It may not be a good idea if she intends to win, but its her right to.

The gay community is overreacting to this and it is not fair of them to blow the statement of ones opinion this far out of proportion.

Edit: Thanks to something pointed out to me, I removed a sentence in here.

Personally, I disagree with Miss California's opinion, but does anyone want to know the great thing about the USA, and in fact most of the western world?

You have the right to state your opinion.

It's what allows us to come on these forums and scream at each other, and at her, it's wonderful, and while I think her opinion is hurtful to others (name homosexual couple who would like to be treated just the same as heterosexual couples) If anybody wants to live in a society where homosexual couples can get married, but no is allowed to voice their opinion? Well that's their loss.

I think perhaps the stupidest thing for anyone to do, is to ask for someone's opinion and expect something that they can agree with. If you don't agree with what someone has to say, just take it, and live with it. If Miss California actually had the power to do something along the lines of her opinions, then I would say fair game to attacks and rants, I mean, politicians do it all the time.

But she doesn't, and her opinion, while potentially insulting, is unlikely to sway many people. On the other hand, videos of outraged homosexuals making fun of, and insulting, probably will sway some people.

I support Miss California! She gave her own opinion, and it was honest. Perez Hilton obviously expected an answer, and had a tantrum when he didnt get it.

When will gay people understand that marriage is a CHRISTAIN concept, the same religion that promotes straightness and finds homosexuality to be some sort of sin. The contestants answer was perfectly logical.

had Perez (which is an absurd name btw) asked 'can gays be civilly unionized (or whatever its called)?' then her answer may have been different.
It's a ROMAN concept. Christianity just put more of a ceremony to it, and less emphasis on the actual sale.
which Rome took their concept from other various cultures they they absorbed into their empire, to form it as we better know it today....wedding rings worn on the left hand actually " as far as we can trace" started in Egypt :)

no it's not, as was said MANY cultures long before christianity came along practiced marriage, it was invented long before that

and as for saying things about gays, the christian church really shouldn't comment

as for the topic on hand, yeah she's stupid for answering it wrong, part of the contest is to see how much you give the correct answer, if she had cut out her personal views, ie between a man and a woman, the answer and reaction to her would have been a lot better
The first point I have no reply to at this time.

The second I do. The Bible says SEXUAL ACTS WITH A MEMBER OF THE SAME GENDER is a sin. One of the main duties of Christians is to turn away from sin, and to spread God's word. That's what the Bible says.

The third thing I also have some comments on as well. So, win at any cost..."What profits a man if he gains the world and loses his soul?"

I am beginning to think the U.S.A is abandoning its principles. Free speech/differing opinions is frowned upon, as well as religion, responsibility, individuality, etc. Some people want the government to take care of them! That's the opposite of what the founding fathers wanted.

Why is she not to blame until she becomes a dictator, but the offended people are overreacting? Perez Hilton made a bitchy comment in his blog, he didn't like, suspend parliament or something.

And no--there was nothing polite about her response. It was quite smug and superior from what I recall.

I'd ask the same question if you're saying people don't have the right to free speech if they "overreact."
Thanks for pointing that out, it is not fair of me to say that.

But to address it, Its not that I think the gay community does not have the right to freedom of speech (which is something that I said in an earlier post that I plan to remove) I just don't agree with their reaction. I do not agree with her opinion either, of course.

I find it interesting that many people on here are calling her some closed-minded twat. She never bashed gays in what she said, she just answered the question in a polite manner.
Aren't you calling the people who say she "bashed gays" wrong right there?
I didn't say they were wrong, I was pointing out information that was both easily misinterpreted and overlooked.
Exactly what "information" were you pointing out? Isn't whether she "bashed gays" or "just answered the question in a polite manner" not information at all, but exactly the sort of thing that is a matter of opinion?
Now, this is my last response to you, Cheese, simply because there is no actual discussion going on with you.

The "information" that you simply love omitting in favor of your argument was the fact that it was her opinion. And "as you recall it being a smug comment", is complete bullshit. I don't know what kind of warped view you have on her, but watch the video. You really have to stop Cheese, because its embarrassing now.

As for the one about Obama and her views, why isn't Obama close-minded? How come he gets out of this as an open-minded politician? Clearly he is not close-minded, because not only did he say the same thing as Miss California, he said it on TV too! *sarcasm*

I honestly don't think either is close-minded, they just won't participate in gay actions. That does not make you close-minded.

to elaborate on what Frank is saying here, "Flamewar imminent!" and I agree wholeheartedly with him. The topic is about the appropriate of the statement itself, not the meaning of the statement, not how the statement affects us, its whether or not someone should be allowed to say what they think in a venue like this. Please try and remember that
couldn't have said it better myself

's exactly the point, if I weren't quite as informed as I believed myself to be. It's not a Christian invention or value, however it may be claimed to be today.

A suprising amount of people just don't freaking care. Myself included. Honestly, I'm more annoyed about Hilton's response. He's not exactly who I want representing me. Besides, I now get to call straight marriage "opposite marriage" and, seriously, she's a Miss America pageant girl. Who actually watches that anymore? Laugh or take it personally, just move on.

These contestants are interviewed a lot during the week or so leading up to the final pagent that you see on TV. The people asking the question had to have known she was conservative...
You're right, they did. They knew she attended a conservative school, and Perez Hilton, or maybe even someone on a higher level deliberately asked her a question designed to put her on the spot.

Of course I said this in the thread I created about this that didn't get nearly enough views or replies, that I linked to on the first page. Does this happen to anyone else consistently, or is it a curse?
It happens to some of my topics, don't worry. ;D

Yeah, I know that most people don't care, but, ya know...I was asking a different question =P

I'm not outraged by what happened, I just find it interesting to discuss. Its also nice to see that a member of the gay community has a sensible head on their shoulders. *I take it you are, since you said you don't want Perez representing you*
