That has got to suck bad when you're just about to win. But then you get owned by the failing hardware and rules.

I watched that event live this weekend. This was the most bullshit moment I had ever seen in MLG since I started watching tournaments in 07'. They would have at least gotten 2nd or 3rd if the 360 didn't freeze. What was even worse was that Hysteria was host. If Hysteria hadn't been host, then he would have left like in a Matchmaking game not affecting anything and TD still winning because MLG's rules clearly state that if a player leaves or is not at the station during the game, the match must go on. TOTAL BULLSHIT!

(p.s. TD is going to be mad at the first event...you can bet they will not go without a win :D)
I take it there was nothing on TV at the time... and you were snowed in... alone.

In all fairness if you enjoy it thats fine. I've not watched someone else play since my arcade days.

As far as "pro" gaming. I don't think its a waste of time, anymore than martial arts, football etc. If you have fun doing it and it doesn't negatively impact on you life its fine.

Yes it is competition but it is definately not a sport. I have never met a pro gamer who I'd consider an athlete. I am in a clan and play clan matches but it doesn't make me a sportsman.

Screw Tropicana Field, I'm waiting for somebody to hit the jumbo screen at the new Cowboys Stadium. Anywho, I can say my PS3 got the yellow light after I got a EMP on MW2. I think the fact that the EMP didn't count pissed me off more than the YLOD.

This gen, the only one that's "fuck-up free" is the Wii. And I'll bet someone here is about to show that I'm wrong about that, thus making this a generation of shoddy console design.
From the perspective of a guy who works at a consumer electronics repair shop, the Wii is pretty good. We've seen plenty 360's, maybe 2 pS3's (that's mainly because Sony doesn't sell PS3 parts to people who aren't Sony), and the only Wii we've had in was there because some kid stuffed it full of noodles.
Well, the Wii should have a "No Noodles" warning label. [sub]The PS2 would have worked with noodles in it...[/sub]

Honestly i think the original winning team should have been given the win.
But rules are rules sometimes(most of the time) they suck

But to have your match taken away because your rig froze? Within inches of victory? That sucks. Hard.
Wait, if it was MLG would it be their rig? Wouldn't it be played on standard 360's owned by the organisers to prevent hardware tampering?

at least people have died in NASCAR, that makes is a sport.
People have died while gaming.
really?

oh, wait, you mean like that kid whom got murdered while playing ride.

i don't count incidents like that because its not related to the game, its as dangerous as keeping the remote from another guy in room.
not a sport, but may end in death.

if you have a incident involving, say, a controller electrocuting a player because they got killed, and got killed IRL, THEN we could say its a sport..

Your move.
excellent point.
i often neglect how gaming IS like a sport in korea.
however, mlg is nowhere near korea in hardness of core.
can we agree that in korea it is a sport, but not so much here (north america)

I don't find a problem with them being paid to play video games, I have a problem with the stigma surrounding competitive gaming.

Most professional gamers I know are complete pricks about what they do, and to add another cherry on top, they're sore losers.

I'm all for odd things being considered sports, hell I still consider Marching Band a sport since I was an ex-marcher.
Alright then, that I can agree with. While there are different types of Pro gamers, there are some bad apples out there who are basically..........uh........I dunno, this guy [http://sizeablekmoney.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/zidane_headbutt.jpg] for gaming. That doesn't make it any less legitimate though, in my belief.

More like "this is why we shouldn't have pro graming at all."
As I said before "Because earning money doing what you love is a completely stupid thing to do and nobody should take anything like that seriously.

That's why people play soccer, football, baseball, chess, bassfishing, lugging, poker, blackjack, and curling all for fun.........rrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggghtttttt?"

There's guys make an earning doing what they love, I couldn't count how many people go "Man, it must really be awesome to get paid to play video games!"

Besides, these guys earn the big dough. They can earn up to 100,000, I think this one they earn 25,000 for the tournament. If you could be paid that much just for playing video games professionally, then props to them.
